Jungle Fever: Moon-Hunter Tribe

Post by Freemage »

HERRA, KUTTER, GROWLER, QUINN
APPROVED ASSISTANCE ROLLS: Psionics (see final OOC comment), Smarts, Shooting, Survival, Stealth, Healing (the Skill, not the spell), Taunt and Tracking

Day 1:

Alec rejoins the bulk of the group and gets into the Mark V, giving Kutter directions to the final tribe's territory. He motions for you to stop, and as you emerge, an arrow lands at your feet. Quinn speaks quickly, murmuring, "No sudden moves, guys," and then activates the translator, as a voice calls out:

"Hold, Alec Quinn and friends. The men must put aside their weapons, and four of us will join you in the vehicle."

Assuming you do not object to this plan, four stunning women of distinctly athletic build emerge from the trees, descending on vines to land on the Mark V. The Moon-Hunters come aboard, and wait for the men (and Dog-Boy) to place their weapons aside and move away from the gun turret. One takes the seat next to Kutter, an oversized bone-knife in her hand. She speaks in American, albeit heavily accented. "Fire weapons, man-beast, I cut treacherous hand off." Kutter's got a good ear--there was the typical disdain he's probably heard before in the term "man-beast", but it's not often he's heard it in the first syllable.

The other men are being watched with equal suspicion; only Herra is permitted to keep her weapons, or move about completely freely inside the APV. Again, a heavily accented American is used to address Herra. "No insult to you, Sister, but do not betray trust."

And so Kutter is told where to go, pushing the APV through ferns and vines until you come to a large waterfall feeding into a lagoon. They have him come to a stop, and you all emerge again--the men still weaponless, while Herra is permitted to come out fully geared up. Growler and Kutter can smell them, all around--up in the trees, though they conceal themselves expertly.
OOC Comments
Notice -2 lets you see the Moon-Hunters in the treetops; on a Raise, you also realize they have actual structures in the trees, as well--bridges and platforms with murder-holes disguised by leaves and branches. On two raises, you notice the occasional man looking down as well.

Oh, and all the women have Very Attractive. All the men have Attractive.
One motions for you all to follow her, and she leads you towards the lagoon, and then around the shore to the cliff-face; stepping across some stones and passes behind the water. Following her, you find yourselves in a large cavern. The chamber is cast in a sparkling twilight created by the sunlight passing through the falling water.

The translator kicks in as she speaks. "This is where you will stay while you make your case to us. The caves are used to store foodstuffs, as they are cool and it remains fresh longer. You may eat as you need, and the water is clean to drink. You shall meet with the Council of Elders at sunset, to demonstrate your worth and make your case."

When you finish your preparations and ablutions, if desired, you are then ushered before a row of 12 women, ranging in age from "Matronly" to "She's not dead, is she?" The oldest suddenly shifts, and opens milky, clouded eyes. There is a pulse of power, which both Herra and the Dog-Boys pick up on, and she speaks--in perfectly unaccented American. "You come to us, man-led. You come to us to ask us to fight and die in your battle. You come to us, and ask us to fight along rival tribes. You do all this. Well, at least you aren't cowards." The other elders chuckle amongst themselves.

"Make your case, why we should ally with you. And you, Sister, shall begin, by displaying the Gift which I sense inside you, if you please."
OOC Comments
Pretty much everyone but Quinn will almost certainly realize very quickly that, in addition to age and gender, the qualification for being an Elder is Psionic talent--they're all at least minorly gifted.

Card: 2 of Diamonds--no complication, no bonus.

Assistants, show off your wisdom in the ways of the wild. She did indeed just invite Herra to kick things off with a Psionics roll, so yeah, she should go first. Brainburn would... probably be a bad thing, here. The best news is that Psionics is given a +2 to the assistance roll--but ONLY for women. Go Herra, it's your birthday, go Herra, it's your birthday!

I'll post Quinn's bit after Herra goes, and Growler should, too. Then Kutter can make the initial appeal.

Figuring that mind control would probably be an inappropriate - if ultimate - display of psionic power, Herra instead aims for something more showy, concentrating on her precognitive senses on grace of movement. Once enhanced she looks at Alec Quinn and smiles, "Throw something at me."

Going out into the jungle with one of the Amazons, Growler sniffed the air for a scent to track in order to "demonstrate his worth". On the breeze, however, was the scent of a Xiticix. They were already in the area, or at least their advance scouts were. With a quick gesture to remind her to be quiet, he followed the scent to a pair of Xiticix scouts. Knowing that killing them would bring any within miles to converge on the location, Growler then went with her back to the Amazon village, explaining everything he knew about the Xiticix to her.

"Those are what we are trying to prevent from setting up a nest. If they do, they will take over the whole region. I am not good with words. I am, however, good in the wilderness. Thanks to that, you have now seen the threat. You saw what evidence of their presence looks like. Even if you and your village do not join in the fight, you can now protect yourselves. I hope your village will see the threat they pose."

Persuasion 14, +3 to final roll

Quinn obliges Herra on her test (in part, demonstrating a willingness to take orders from a woman, something that does not go unnoted by the Elders). He then spends a few moments extolling the virtues of the Tomorrow Legion as allies. The women seem open to his words, perhaps despite themselves.

Sensing things are going well, Herra nods respectfully to the elders. Part of her wishes she could stay here, it is the closest to a sense of family she has seen since being plucked from her home, "Our mission would benefit greatly from your assistance. But if I wonder if I might make a more personal request. How can I join this tribe?"

The old crone raises a brow. "Ah, such fire runs through the blood of the young. Less than a day, and you feel you have found your place in the world? Well, perhaps you have." She smiles gently. "So you mean to settle down with us? Or do you simply wish to have someplace to call home, when traveling is done?"

And, in the meantime: Kutter gets +4 to the Persuasion roll, -2 for being male, -2 for the Scene difficulty, so he's making a flat roll. Don't forget EP and Bennies exist!

That's a Raise: Team Moon-Hunter at a total of 2.
After Herra and Growler have demonstrated their respective talents, Kutter steps up and begins speaking, talking about how new he is to the Legion, and that even in that short time, he has been impressed by the talent, honor and nobility of the organization. He wisely plays up Herra's standing in the group, and also mentions Elle of Owls, the leader of the SET division.

The Elders nod somberly, clearly willing to hear you out further.

Day 2
OOC Comments
Draw: 5 Diamonds--no complication
The morning of the second day, you are again brought before the Elders. They are definitely regarding you all with more warmth than the night before.

Their most senior member, whom you now know is named Adrasteia, motions for you all to sit and join them for breakfast.

"You show yourselves to be passionate and skilled. These are no small things. But the jungle is large. Some among us would know why we should not simply migrate to new territory, further south, leaving you and the others tribes to fight this battle. Why is it so important, to us, that these creatures should be destroyed here and now?"

With due deference, Quinn makes the opening argument. "Once they have the valley, they will continue to expand, until the entire jungle is occupied. They are voracious. The only reason their current territory is not expanding faster is because they finally ran into nations strong enough to mount constant forays against their borders, aggressively attacking any new scouting missions that emerge from their lands."
OOC Comments
Second verse, same as the first. Anyone who gets a Raise on the Notice roll, or a Success on a Knowledge: Politics roll, will catch that Adrasteia herself does not think much of the notion of packing up and leaving; she is simply acting as the voice for some segment of the tribe that is large enough she cannot ignore their views.

Quinn's roll:
Persuasion [dice]0[/dice]
Success = +1 to group Persuasion roll.

For the second day, Growler takes his assigned Moon-Hunter Amazonian Tribeswoman out with him to "Prove his Worth", or in his mind, to search for more evidence of the Xiticix. Halfway through the day, he comes across another pair of Xiticix scouts, this time on the far side of the Moon-Hunter village. It seems that the scouts have been all over the area, and not just in the parts of the jungle closer to the Hivemound that they have been constructing. Again withdrawing instead of engaging, the two of them then spend the rest of the day searching and find a couple other pairs of Xiticix scouts.

"They are all over the Jungle. Now that we have seen the spoor and trails that they leave behind, we are noticing more and more of them in the area. Up in the far North, they have set up a Hivemound there, and have taken over an area larger than the size of this Jungle. The only reason that they have not spread further is the efforts and sacrifice of many brave warriors and heroes. If they could have responded earlier, before the Hivemound was fully constructed, then they may have been stopped before they got such a large population up there. That is what we are trying to prevent here, and why we need your help. They will not be satisfied with even just this Jungle. They want to take over the whole world."

Day Two

To join a tribe such as this one requires more than psionic ability, it also requires proving your worth in the jungle. Fortunately for Herra, the jungles of Atlantis were preferred hunting grounds for many of her former owners. While she is no master, she tends to rely on her psychic powers to bail out of most situations, she knows her way around the jungle and has a vast knowledge of monsters and creatures that frequent the Splugorth slave pens.

On the second day she joins a hunting party and does her best to demonstrate knowledge and prowess in the field.

Kutter is... well, not eloquent--he's a bit too casual for that. But he is earnest, and sincere. In the end, he offers to allow the Elders to look into his mind to see the truth of his words. That, in some ways, seems to be what seals the deal. The Elders nod, seemingly as one.

"We will join with you, and with the other tribes, assuming they also agree, to deal with this threat to us all."

The eldest then seeks out Herra, quietly speaking to her. "You have impressed us, Child. Impress us one more time, during the battle to come, and we will be happy to call you Sister; at that time, you can decide if you wish to stay with us immediately, or if you simply will come to us when your time as a wanderer is done." The woman reaches out, and takes her by the shoulders, pulling her in to put a kiss on Herra's forehead.
