An Inspirational Appearance
At the vehicle bay just about ready to head out. B'aughb doesn't talk much he just nods solemnly to the group assembled, tips his cap which has a scripted TA on it, and climbs into the driver seat. He seems ready to go. The truck is resembles something from the old U.S. Military.
Truck
B'aughb's Truck.jpg
Captain Pender Lumkiss hurries over to the group before you can start loading up. He seems quite out of breath and his hands are filled with a few items.
Although breathing heavily he still has an air of excitement in his voice, " Ok, whew just in time." He holds up one hand as if to ask for a moment, in the hand in a sweet looking pistol, now pointed right at you! " Oh gosh sorry, about that. I just ran from the workshop. Penmanship this is a nice pistol, wicked cool! Oh and Tyler got you 2 clips of silver rounds for it." Captain Lumkiss taps the back of the back of the truck with the pistol, " We got 8 canteens and a 50 gallon hydration system, that sucker weighs a ton! All loaded up for you."
He walks slowly to Spartacus carrying a letter stamped with Lord Coake's seal. He hands it to Spartacus, " Here Tardius, you should know Sir Marcus volunteered for this mission, but Dr. Coake requested you personally." Captain Lumkiss looks at the ground unsure for a moment. " He bid me to give you that letter and to open it when you got to where you were going."

Captain Lumpkiss steps back waving Penitent's pistol pointedly and in his normal giddy voice addresses the team. " Ok, it is up to you, you all... Liveoak, Chrysanthemum, wrinkly, Abastain, Stardisk, and Pennywise. We are out of time, and out of space. The venting for the human race. A cataclysmic rises from the past!" The captain wrings his hands trying to find the appropriate words to send you on the mission, "A small blue world thunders forth, an apocalyptic nightmare born. Mankind better learn to cope with its past." The Good captain hands Penitent the pistol and rounds. He pats him on the shoulder and shakes the hand of anyone willing, Watch the glittering protectors rise. Inhuman foes meet your demise. Boom, Boom, Boom, their end is nigh!" The Captain about faces nearly tripping and walks away feeling he has sufficiently inspired the troops.

Words spoken taken from the Happy Jacks RPG podcast Rift into Song

Interlude on the way to the rift:
The truck departs and you guys have some time to reminisce and reflect about past experiences. Share a story of an adventure you have had that seems relevant to the task at hand. Each player will be drawn a card to give their story a general theme. Link with card draw
Interlude Directions
1.) Clubs—Tragedy: Describe a tale of tragedy or misfortune from your hero’s past, featuring one of his Hindrances if possible. If the teller has a dark secret of some kind, hint strongly at it, drop clues, or otherwise give the rest of the group a glimpse into your hero’s dark side during your narrative.

2.) Spades—Victory: Tell the group about a great victory or personal triumph in your adventurer’s past. How did it affect him afterward? Was there a reward?

3.) Hearts—Love: Speak fondly of the character’s greatest love—lost, found, or waiting on him back home. What is her name? Where does she live? Why is the traveler not with her now?

4.) Diamonds—Desire: Tell a tale about something your hero wants (or already has). It might be a material possession, recognition, a political goal, or even a trip he wishes to take to some amazing destination. [/list]

► Rewards: After a player completes her tale, award her a Benny or an Adventure Card. If you the Player wants a bennie say so at end of your interlude, or if instead you want a Adventure Card roll a 1d54 to get another one. Remember you can only hold 1 card at novice, or 2 at seasoned, and you can only play one card per session.( Thanks to Lars for putting this description together)
Off camera interlude
Tyler Thomas waits and waits some more slumping down along the wall just outside of Terra Silverforge's workshop. Something must be said of his wishful thinking but fatigue from a busy day over takes him. He is awakened by the thundering voice of Terra Silverforge.
" Waky Waky Lad. I see you gave away plenty in my absence." Tyler startles awake looking up at his overbearing mentor.
Seeing that his tongue is tied Terra continues chastising him, " All dressed up are we, hair washed... What is that smell... perfume?" She shakes her head at him and clicks her tongue disapprovingly, " Not for a girl, again Tyler? Not a girl again..."
He finds his voice and stammers, " A... A bunch of Specialists Terra..."
She clamps his mouth shut and nods meaningfully, " Oh yes, I know about them. We could have gotten good credits from the Legion for all those prototype flame swords... But no we gave away good TW weapons... And where is my bandoleer?" She smiles at him with vengeance, " Oh my boy I read their mission profile, I know exactly where they are going." She releases him and he stands, even though he is taller than her, her personality dwarfs him. She goes into the workshop bringing out some gear, she tosses him a duffle.
" Tyler be a sweat heart and go pack the bag, we are going after my weapons and my fracking Bandoleer. I will be damned if they fall into the hands of some Pecos bandits or vampire scum. Or worse, if we just gave them away for free."

Time to get Rifty
Ashlyn and Leben feel the nudge of the universe or the Arch Angel Gabriel as it may be sending them a small mental image. At one point during the ride to the rift you see the following images in your head, while a bit disorienting it is not debilitating ( Feel Free to incorporate this into your interlude)

Mental image:

The Layline/Rift: note, the time of day is night, about 8pm or so.
Krysesia, Leben, and Ink while not leyline walkers can sense the approaching lay line using there TA racial abilities. The leyline is gargantuan, about 1.5 miles wide, 1 mile tall, and most likely is about 250 miles long. When examining the rift itself Krysesia can tell it is a leyline rift with a couple of designated drop off points, one being just outside of New Del Rio. However, this rift is normally just used for communications ( Partial Rift), but with some amount of skill it would be possible to change that characteristic, making it temporally easy to open or at least stable enough to travel through.
As the rift opens anyone that can sense vampires or supernatural can feel their presence on the other side. Those with danger sense have a bad feeling as you are about to step through ( Feel free to incorporate this in your interlude).
OOC Comments
Rift Characteristics:
  • Partial- No travel, but drawing upon and communication possible
    • -4 to casting skill roll to temporally change the rift from Partial to easy or stable players choice:
      • Easy: Spend 20PPE and make a magic skill Roll, you arrive at your destination
      • Stable: Make a magic skill roll -4 to arrive at destination
  • This will require two casting rolls, first one at -4 to change the characteristic of the rift. Then depending on what characteristic is chosen, one more roll will be needed. Either at a -4 ( Stable), or a straight roll if 20PPE is spent ( Easy). Shifters receive a +4 bonus to manipulate rifts. If I got this wrong let me know but I read through the gm section about 4 times and this is best how I can figure out the leyline and rift rules function... An example would have been helpful.
Rift opening.jpg

Next GM post will be on the other side, most likely a combat

Ink looked at B'aughb a bit strangely for a moment but then seemed to shrug it off. He nodded back to the driver and started to step towards the truck when the Captain hurried over to them. He gave...a speech of some sort. Ink wasn't sure what the intended meaning behind it was supposed to be. It seemed like random phrases and poetry strung together to him. And the incorrect names made Ink's eyes narrow and glare at the idiot. He restrained himself from anything else and kept his mouth shut. After the captain left, Ink shook his head, glad to be getting away.

During the trip, everyone was sharing stories to pass the time. When his turn came around he thought about it for a moment and nodded. "Okay. When I was younger, I lived in...well, a place far south of here." Not everyone knew about Manoa and while it wasn't strictly a secret or anything, he didn't blab a out it usually either. "There was one time when I was out on patrol that I remember. We had been gone from the city for several days. It was a drizzly day, overcast and grey."

He ran a hand over his Mohawk and closed his eyes. "Up ahead in the distance we heard sounds of fighting. We hurried along and headed towards the battle, finding a group of what looked like Amazons fighting off the unwanted attention of some Splugorth and lizardmen. We closed in on them from behind, letting out war cries and drawing weapons as we did so."

He gave a snort and shook his head, opening his eyes. "It was a trap. The Amazons were really just disguised Altara slave women. We found ourselves in a brutal close quarters battle, fighting for our lives. Tattooed men make excellent gladiatorial slaves to the Splugorth, you see. So they were using many non-lethal attacks to bring us down. Things looked grim."

He smiled then, though there was a touch of grimness in it. "Arrows began to shoot in to the minions from the back, up above in the trees. Our patrol's two scouts had returned and found us. It was enough to cause a momentary hesitation among the Splugorth, one which I seized. I let out a yell and rushed into the thick of things to draw as much attention and fire to me as possible. The others were able to use the confusion to begin to focus on dropping the minions one at a time but quickly."

He pulled lifted his left arm up to show a wicked scar that ran from almost his arm pit, across his chest and down his stomach to his right hip almost with many scars branching off from it - it was cleverly disguised with a tattoo designed to look like a chasm that had opened up with skeletons climbing out of it. "I was grievously wounded and almost didn't survive, but I got a commendation from it. And several of the Blind Women were won over to enjoy freedom rather than death." He tapped his boots that looked like they were snakeskin or crocodile skin or something. "And I got these made from some of the lizardmen hide."

As they arrived and the workings of magic were done to open the rift to their destination. Ink frowned deeply and stared at the rift's opening. "Hey. Everyone be ready. I don't like the feel of...something. On the other side. Be ready." So saying, he took a few moments to ready himself. He touched the tattoo on his chest to activate his armor, a slightly ethereal armor looking like something out of ancient Greece surrounded him. He touched his wrist, and a gleaming silver short sword appeared in his hand as if leaping off his arm's tattoo. He drew his flaming sword and ignited it in his other hand. He tried to feel the ley line around him but he was too eager for the fight he felt was coming so then he leaped in to the rift.

(I can only have one Adventure Card so I guess a Benny please and thank you)

Re: Interlude: On the way to New Del Rio

Post by Penitent »

Penitent accepts the modified pistol from the captain with the barest of nods, then slips it into the stamped leather holster at his belt. Once on the transport, he slips his pack under the bench and leans back, seemingly lost in silent contemplation.

As the others begin sharing stories, it appears the apok may remain silent, until he speaks in a gravely, deep voice.

"This will not be the first time I have encountered the earth demons you call vampires," he says, choosing his words deliberately. "There are many minions of the Unholy that drink blood and prey on the weak-minded, and the greater demons routinely raise the dead as warriors and servants. But the vampires -- the once-living servants led by so-called masters -- are not common on Wormwood."

"Years ago, the Host had laid seige to a northern fortress call Crystalclaw. The seige went on for months, and the defenders were well supplied, with several battle saints to help defend the walls. Seeking to curry favor, a shifter in service to the demon lord Krikton sought to turn the tide by rifting in a master vampire and a few hundred lesser vampires. The risk of a lasting infection was low, considering the weapons involved in the seige, but the vampires were an unexpected weapon, sure to kill hundreds before the forces of Light learned how to defeat them."

Penitent's expression remains neutral as he relays the tale, which he seems to see in his mind almost as if it happened to someone else.

"The initial assault went much as planned. Invulnerable to mundane damage, the vampires were catapulted over the walls by the Host's demon-engines. It wasn't uncommon for them to fire corpses at the defenders to try to erode morale, so the danger went unnoticed for the first few minutes. After that, it was too late. The outer wall was lost and the defenders withdrew to the inner keep, which guarded the tunnels leading into the crystal cliffs."

"The Host attacked in force the next day, their numbers buoyed by all of the freelancers and templars corrupted by the vampires. Willing to sacrifice a few to save the many, the Cathedral issued orders for a counter-attack. Two score Priests of Light summoned hellfire into the outer ring, at the spot where the Host had breached the walls. Demons and vampires alike were burned to ash, but they kept advancing. As the horde contracted, filling the void, a Battle Saint was triggered to explode, eradicating the bulk of the attacking force. The inner keep was damaged beyond repair, the crystal walls cracked and ruined. The fortress had to be abandoned, but the bulk of the Forces of Light were able to retreat behind the line of battle."

Penitent smiles, wistfully, but his eyes remain focused on the past.

"It's funny, I suppose. I can remember the battle in exact detail, could recognize men and demons who fell there still and tell you what they said as they bled their last," he says. "But I cannot tell you which side I fought on."

He gestures toward the leathery mask at his belt. "One of the many prices the Light demands for redemption.

Ashlyn was loading her gear into the truck when Commander Lumkiss rushed up. She tried to shift and move out of the way each time he waved that gun around at them. Had no one taught him basic firearms safety! She gave a curious look to the man as he launched into what she assumed was supposed to be an inspirational speech to send them on their way. Mostly it just sounded...gibberish.

“Gracias, Commander,” Ashlyn thanked him. “We will hopefully see you soon.”

After Ashlyn had settled into her seat, she pulled the silver cross from her neck and picked up her water rifle. She murmured a prayer and made the sign of the cross over the water tank of the gun, infusing it with holy energy.

***

Ashlyn stared out the back of the truck as they drove, bouncing on the hard wooden benches. They were rotating who rode shotgun with B’aughb and who rode in the back in the stifling heat of the canvas-covered bed with its metal frame and wooden benches. She listened to the others talk of their glorious battles. She frowned and shifted nervously.

“I should warn you, I will only fight in self-defense,” Ashlyn told the others. “I will not harm humans. This is sacred vow,” she declared. Her dark eyes closed as she relived the memory.

“I was six when the vampires came. Someone had removed the garlic that protected our threshold. I do not know who. Mama shoved me into the crawlspace beneath the floor. We were poor, and mother pressed the only silver we had into my little hand, a letter opener. Their warm blood dripped on me through the floor as the vampires feasted on my parents. It soaked my hair and nightdress.”

Ashlyn worried her lip. “I was taken to the orphanage at New Alamo where the priests and cyber-knights raised me. The nightmares came every night for a year. I could not sleep unless I clutched my letter opener. I not talk or play. I not cry.

“There was boy, older, bigger. He bully us. Take the treats given by priests. I was twelve when he try touch me one night. I stab him with my letter opener. He fall and I climb on him and I stab, and stab, and stab, muy mucho. My mind open and I feel him die. I still stab and stab. The blood bathe me, warm and sticky. It is copper in my mouth. The Mother, she pull me off, take my letter opener, hold me as I cry.”

Ashlyn took a shuddering breath. “I given mucho penance. I hear the voices of others. They frightened when they look at me. I am killer.” She looked down, staring at her hands, the blood only she could see still soaking them, dripping onto the leathers of her legs.

“I have powers, so am sent to join Magdalenas. It is sisters who fight evil in world. Each have to make vow. I make vow not to be killer again. Only kill evil. I protect now.”

The Latina looked up, giving a shuddering breath. “I am sorry I cannot make praises about fighting like you.”

***

Ashlyn nodded off during the trip. Recounting her story had been emotionally exhausting for her. She stirred slightly as the dreams disturbed her, nightmares returning. Bright lights shone painfully in her eyes. A shadow loomed over her, blurry and indistinct at first, and then resolving into a man wearing a wide-brimmed hat and thick glasses that reflected back her image, lying naked on a table. A surgical mask covered his face and white gloves his hands. All...three of them. One hand palpated her stomach as the others held a scalpel and retractor.

“This will only hurt a lot, my dear,” the voice said from behind the mask with a dry chuckle.

Ashlyn thrashed in her seat, trying to shake the dream. It wavered, and then another face entered her vision, shaking her, staring down with concern, a beautiful woman with dusky Latina skin, caramel eyes, and raven hair, her wide mouth and full lips turned down in concern, the bright lab replaced by a dank, dark hollow of damp earth dug out of an embankment overlooking the river.

“It is morning. We survived…” the woman said.

Ashlyn hugged her tightly. Then she lifted the woman’s shirt and ran her fingers lightly over a large burn where the silver fire of her magic had burned her. The woman hissed in pain. “How are you feeling?” Ashlyn examined several more silver burns.

“It will heal. In time. Maybe.”

Ashlyn shook her head. “Let me…” She pressed her hand to the flesh and said a prayer. Her hand glowed with silver fire, but nothing happened and Ashlyn frowned. “The wound is too old. I am sorry, Vela.”

***

Ashlyn jerked awake, pushing herself up in her seat and looking around. An eerie glow shimmered in the sky and Ashlyn could feel the power pulsing. They had reached the ley line. She hopped out of the truck to see and gaped at just how massive it was. She had never seen such a big line before! The power pulsed through her.

“We should take some time to soak in the power before we go through,” Ashlyn suggested to the others. As they worked the Rift, she opened herself to the power of the line.

Notice - 2
[dice]0[/dice],[dice]1[/dice]
Krysesia spends some time before they switch out letting the weapon charge up (or charging it with her own PPE if necessary). She also spends her time talking to people, getting to know them. No one in particular. The guy who fills the water barrels, the girl who refills canteens, the lady working at that one food counter, and even the merc sitting in the hall that kept hitting on her - so dull. "I could go out with you on a date, or I could gouge my eyes out. I'm not inclined to do either at the moment." He was mad, but aside from a few words and curses that meant little and only showed his immaturity and youth, he did nothing. She'd held her hand briefly over her wrist, just in case. The move she'd developed in training, where she seemingly pulls her sword from her wrist, was still her favorite method of deploying the enchanted blade. It had the proper flare, while also acting as a way to catch her opponent off guard.

Thankfully bruised ego aside, no one was the worse for wear. Why some brutes felt the need to prove their manliness by imposing their "will" on someone who happens to have a nice figure and blonde hair, she'd never understand. Of course most True Atlantean men go through that phase too, but it usually goes away after enough decades of seeing it backfire. By that time all of them are in the same place mentally.

As they got ready to leave, she surveyed this B'aughb, adding a nod of greeting if he looks her way. Was he yet another of the clans that called Skellian traitors? She was proud of her clan, and understood the need for secrecy. As they left and Isandro gave his account, she had to school the outrage and surprise from her face. Might as well scream 'hey I'm Clan Skellian and I just gave you a hint as to where our hidden city is!' No need adding to the fire by denying anything. Her father may be famous, but his precise clan is not.

To Ashlyn, she nods. "An admirable stance, seniorita. I myself make a habit not to harm anyone who does not first push the issue. But realize that not harming someone is not the same as stopping them. You would do well to find the spot on that line that allows you to restrain, but not harm. I've seen too many mind-slaves of vampires to have such reservations myself, but I also find no joy in it. That said, if I have no choice, I will do as I must. I will do my best to abide by your vow in this matter though. In matters of belief, we are trained to be respectful, especially to our allies."

When the others tell their tales, Krysesia shares one of her own. "Some of you have heard of my father. He's a Slayer like Isa..Ink, but much more experienced. Sometimes he would send me as a courier to deliver a message or coordinate between allies and such. I have been to Center's World Gates three dozen times, but I have yet to step foot out of that complex. One trip I had to go deliver a message to a contact on a Splugorth world. Now while we share a hatred of vampires, that's about the only redeeming feature of those monsters. They ally with a band of hated assassins called Sunaj. While on this world, despite my disguise I managed to garner a hunting party's attention. I was on the run from that ruffians for three hours before I finally found a place where I could hide long enough to open a rift to escape. I thought I'd lost them, but turns out they managed to track my rift. It took six worlds, three other realities, and a perilous trip through either an active volcano, or a particularly hospitable section of a plane of elemental fire, I am not sure which. By that time I had finally lost them, I was most exhausted. A quite harrowing experience, I assure you."

Upon reaching the nexus, Krysesia nods at seeing it. "Communication Rift. I see. This will take finesse." First she summons a bit of help, then she activates her protection mark of heritage. Once open, she refills her energy, readies the shotgun, and prepares for the worst. She can feel the vampires' presence on the other side. "Be ready to fight when we get through. I will toss up a Globe of Daylight once we do."

Listening to the stories of the others Leben’s mind began to skip back into his own memories of the past. To a time when he was younger, but he was not one to draw attention to himself, so instead he simply choose to meditate within on the life he lost.

Walking into the room Leben was confused to see the others there. Looking at them he was surprised to see Janis with them, he felt in his heart she should not be there, that this trip was not right for her. Knowing he should say something, but he could not bring himself to say something that would prevent the girl he had such strong feeling for from joining them. Instead he chose to ask a question. “Father why are the others here?”
“They will be joining you Leben. The Elders have decided that all four of you have been called to the priesthood and so you will all be sent for training in the Cathedrals.” Looking very seriously into his son’s eyes ensuring eye contact as he alway did in these moments his father said in is most reverent voice. “We have a duty son.” His voice returning to normal he added. “The Elders have discerned that that duty leads us now to Wormwood, the place in your visions.”

“Hey Leben, I need to talk to you.” Cornelius looked a little awkward, perhaps even nervous as he approached Leben. Strange when Leben considered he was training to be a Knight.
“Sure, what is going on Cornelius? You look nervous, what could possibly make the best 3rd year student nervous?” Leben’s tone became less humorsome as he spoke seeing the seriousness on his friends face.
“I need your advice or maybe just someone to talk to.” Cornelius’s tone was balancing out, but there was still something hidden under it Leben could feel.
Then seeing Janis coming from the direction of the temple he gave a slight nod. It sounded like Cornelius wanted to speak privately and Leben wanted to respect that. “Janis comes.”
Cornelius looked only slightly off balance by the appearance of the girl Leben was so clearly enamored with. “It can wait.”
“Hey I am relieved for the rest of the day.” The clear excitement in her voice rose a joy in Leben as it always did when he was around her. “Let's go find something fun to do. I was thinking...”
Her voice trailed off as she saw Leben’s face, he was staring into the distance lost within his own mind. Janis was getting concerned, sometimes his distractions where caused by very serious things. “What is it Leben, what did you see?”
“You need to run, you shouldn't be here Janis, you need to get to the priest quickly!” Jumping to his feet and looking around Leben’s face was filled with concern. “I am sorry Cornelius, I don’t think we have enough time.”
The giant creature flew out from behind the building the sky rider instantly hurling his spear at the fleeing children as if he was prepared for the murder he was going to commit. As the spear burst from Cornelius chest Leben felt like it was happening all over again, his vision from moments before repeated in life before his eyes. Two more Spears flew at Leben, missing him by only inches as he ran. The feeling in his heart screaming to him that Janis should not be here, she must not be on this planet. “We have to run, you can’t be here, you are in danger.” He was so worried for her, he could not think clearly where she was involved.
The priest normally alert for trouble quickly came to action as they heard the yelling of the children as they came running. But they were too late, as they arrived the sky rider simply flew away as if nothing of significance had happened. But it was too late for Cornelius.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That day things became strained for a time between Leben and Janis. For him the loss of his friend was traumatic and something he needed to speak about to understand. But for Janis it was something she kept inside, she would not speak of it and did not want to hear the others speak of it.
Looking up from his reverie Leben sees they are drawing close too the ley line, taking the opportunity to refresh his spent power while the summoner uses her talents to perform what for him would have been a trying tall at the least he prepared himself for what was to come.
"Perhaps it would be acceptable for me to scout our destination before we leave?
Mini-Interlude... What has Leben touched?
Leben receives a vision of being underground. He is in some kind of pre-rift military installation, it is dark and very sandy. Every inch of the room he is in has been covered by at least a small layer of sand. The only light in the room comes from what looks like a rift. In front of the rift sit 4 dragon eggs. A voice terrible in power, and delightful in encountering Leben seeps through the rift.
" Welcome mystic... A true Atlantean!" The voice chortles in mad delight. " Oh yes! Yes! Yes! A true Atlantean visiting me. You will no doubt be prepared for my minions on the surface. They do their job of spreading my power into the countryside. Even their slaves willingly commit atrocities. The second has even created monstrous bats, a delight of winged fury from the sky. I wonder though if you truly grasp what foe you face? No, no... It will be a great surprise. " Unseen by Leben you feel a slime ridden tentacle wrap itself around your body. It pulls you close to the Rift, past the dragon eggs. You catch sight of several tentacles attached to the dragon eggs before the creature pulls you within inches of the rift. Its blinding light makes it almost impossible to discern what is beyond. But you do make out a huge eye beyond starring straight at you. Its diabolical presence threatens to break you in half. It flings you back to the edge of the chamber. Everything fades to black as the power used dissipates.
Coming out of his meditation Leben looks around at the party as everyone waits for the Summoner to open the gate. Looking around he shouts to the teams ensuring their alertness. "THEY ARE EXPECTING US!
"For they are lead by an Intelligence and he knows we come. Prepare yourselves!"
For the first time any of them have ever seen, and that's a long time for Ink and Leben, Krysesia looks rattled. She gets herself under control, but it's clear she didn't expect to be dealing with an Intelligence. "Did it reveal anything else? Any other threats? From what little my father will tell of his battles against Vampire Intelligences, they tend to reveal things to you. And did it identify you?"
Looking concerned Leben adds. "I believe he is attempting to corrupt the hatchlings. But my vision was not clear enough to discern if he was corrupting them or devouring them.
"I have always been a little worried when traveling through rifts because of the inherent dangers. So I chose to meditate on what could possibly await us and what dangers would be on the other side. As I was in my meditation on what danger awaits us on the other side of this rift I was pulled into a vision"
Describing the vision Leben lowers the volume of his voice trying to be as accurate as possible in his details to his allies.
What have I touched?
In my vision I was underground. In some kind of pre-rift military installation, it was dark and very sandy. Every inch of the room I was in was covered by at least a small layer of sand. The only light in the room coming from what looked like a rift. In front of the rift sat 4 dragon eggs.
AS I looked a powerful and terrible voice spoke out sounding delighted upon perceiving me as I stepped through the rift it said " Welcome mystic... A true Atlantean!" The voice then chortles in an apparently mad delight. " Oh yes! Yes! Yes! A true Atlantean visiting me. You will no doubt be prepared for my minions on the surface. They do their job of spreading my power into the countryside. Even their slaves willingly commit atrocities. The second has even created monstrous bats, a delight of winged fury from the sky. I wonder though if you truly grasp what foe you face? No, no... It will be a great surprise. "
As he was speaking I felt some unseen slime ridden tentacle wrap itself around my body. It pulled me close to the Rift, past the dragon eggs. As I past them I caught sight of several tentacles attached to the dragon eggs, but could not focus on them as I was puled closer to the rift its blinding light made it impossible for me to discern what was beyond except the huge eye starring straight at me.
The evil in its presence was disturbing, and harrowing to perceive, to be honest I still feel a little shaken by the diabolical nature of as it tore my body in half and tossed me back into the chamber.
"Sorry for shouting as I came out. I found the experience quite harrowing and insufficient response to such things in the past has cost lives."
(rolls held)
As the description comes, Krys squeezes her eyes shut. Then she opens them in resolute determination. "So we need to be aware of both aerial and ground attack. Senorita Ashlyn, focus on the vampires themselves. My water elemental and I will focus on putting down the humans, hopefully in a non-lethal manner. Everyone keep an eye out for attacks from all vectors, including from beneath the ground."
Laben pulls out his cross glowing with holy light and places it over his neck, then he drops a handful of small 1" marbles (3 in total) into his hand, each also glowing with the same holy light. "I do not have many of these to share, but I think it will be good for us to use what we do have."
Looking at Krysesia he says. "I would like to ask for help from heaven for this ambush, if you could please let me know before you are ready so I can draw up power, place some wards on us and call up aid from heaven."
Leben continues drawing on the power of the ley line as he waits for his friends. Upon seeing everyone suited and ready for Krysesia to begin he calls forth a Spirit of Light to bless him and Ashlyn with the faith and discipline to get through this trial. Then he calls out to the heavens for the aid of the Spirits of Light & Life in this coming battle, explaining to them what he suspects is about to occur and how their help is needed, continuing to draw from the ley line. Once he feels he has as much power as he can hold he nods to Krysesia that he is ready.
Odious Details
Leben failed to make a fourth marble so he only has three to share.
Leben will then cast from Spirit of Light (Greater Boost Trait - Mysticism ) on himself and the other mystic (I think the casters will benefit from it the most).
Leben is going to maintain the spell and then again draw up maximum PPE x2.
Leben will then cast Legion of Light summoning 7 Spirits of Light & Life (-18 PPE)
He explains to them all that he is concerned is about to happen as he replenish himself to maximum PPE (38) while maintaining the two spells.
At the start of the round he will be in maintenance on both spells as their duration would end while he was still drawing on the Ley Line.
(From a math point of view it in not practical to just roll dice over and over as if he failed to draw up PPE with a critical failure and collapsed his spells he would just start over as the whole process will only take 30-60 seconds and this is a out of combat situation.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cast Spirit of Light Total = 4 (+2 to Mysticism roll)
Cast Greater Boost Trait [dice]0[/dice]
Cast Greater Boost Trait Wild Die [dice]1[/dice]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cast Force Multiplication Total = 10
Cast Force Multiplication Mysticism [dice]2[/dice] + 2 from Spirit of Light
Cast Force Multiplication Wild Die [dice]3[/dice] + 2 from Spirit of Light
We still have a couple Interludes to come, so I think I will hold off on further post unless prompted.
Notice 8
Notice Die [dice]0[/dice]
Wild Die [dice]1[/dice]
Wild Die Ace [dice]2[/dice]
Spartacus accepts the letter from Capt. Lumkiss and tucks it into his satchel to read later. Removing three of his stakes from his pack he places them in the bandoleer provided to him by Master Tyler. Testing each to ensure that they fit snugly into its strap but also pulled free without catching on the leather. Into the knife scabbard he slid his silver cross with its sharpened point and again tightened the straps to ensure a snug fit then fastening the restraining strap. Settling the bandoleer across his armored chest he double-checked the fit and location of his weapons. Finally, he slides Sir Marcus' Plasma Pistol into his holster, replacing it in the satchel with his laser pistol. I must remember to ask one of the priests accompanying us if they can provide some holy water.
Joining the others and listening to some of the others' stories Spartacus interjects during a moment of silence. "There is a battle before us, I can smell it in the air." He closes his eyes, inhales deeply and lets out a contented growl. "Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrh, I love to fight, I admit it freely. When I was just a cub my father taught me to wield a blade almost as soon as I could walk. He was a great warrior in the old world before his Maniple pursued their foes through a Rift and found themselves trapped here on this Earth." Again Spartacus closes his eyes and inhales deeply once more this time letting out a long sigh, "He is gone now these three years and I miss him terribly. I was still in the midst of my training to become a Cyber-Knight and it was months before word reached me. But he died in a manner befitting a warrior of the Iron Claw tribe with his claws buried in the throat of his foe dragging him into death with his final breath."
Spartacus looks around him and chuckles softly,"You think it strange for a Cyber-Knight to speak so enthusiastically of blood and death? I am Spartacus, son of Atticus of the Iron Claw tribe fiercest of the 12 tribes of the Wolfen Empire or so my father would say. But I am also Spartacus, of the order of the Cyber-Knights. If it was my father that taught me the great joy of testing oneself in battle it is Lord Coake that taught me the even greater joy of looking beyond combat as the goal and see as the means to protect the innocent, to hold the lawless accountable and bring light into the darkness." His eyes almost glow as four feet of light erupts from his hand and hums with quiet power. "This blade is my heart and my oath as a Cyber-Knight. I wield it with the skill taught to me by my beloved sire and in the service to my Lord Coake who I revere above all others." The light fades as he releases his psi-sword and the energy dissipates. "Tomorrow death may claim us as it claims all mortals in due course. So if the battle finds us fight from here," and he taps his chest, " and we will not fail."
What you want is irrelevant. What you have chosen is at hand.
