Silver Bridge part 2

Post by Pender Lumkiss »

You guys were able to use the rubble of the bridge to set an appropriate foot path. It is wide enough path that with a (piloting roll -2) any all terrain vehicle can also make it across

The Tracking Party

Kesslan, Maximilian, and Bane go north tracking the psychic sense of Soldad the ancient one. Heading north for the most part the river picks up steam making it difficult to hear. But after a little bit the rapids have passed and so has the psychic sense. The sense is not so much lost as scrambled by something powerful. In the distance crossing the river maybe few hours away still continuing north the tracking group can see the faint outline of a lay line. A faint rustling behind them and a slight splashing catches their attention. It looks like 2 individuals dressed in coalition dead boy armor are wildly waving their arms chasing after them making no attempts to hide their movements.
What are your intentions?

Turning of a Villager

[still at the bridge]The Villagers are grateful for the help thanked you all profusely. Mayor Donald Rucker a sandy haired human with a wild frightened terror filled smile looks at you. His hand is gripping his chest " Oh gosh, those vampires... Then that dragon, oh no! The Bridge, our Silver bridge! Will it come back, will it!!" One of the women, the mother of the human baby, clearly made of sterner stuff steps over to the group remaining. " I am sorry for the Mayor. He is a nice man, not used to these creatures..." She shutters herself clearly not used to it either. " I am Sella, and this is Mayor Donald Rucker. It all started 2 days ago, one of our mud farmers went missing, and then tonight the vampire's attacked! We've all heard the storys of the old crone living far to the north tempting children... But they are just stories! Thank you for saving us and my child! If you need anything it is ours to give." She looks quizzically for a moment at you guys, " You said you were from the legion--" She is cut off by the happy cries of a woman knelling by her "dead" sister. Tears are streaming down this woman's face and blood soaks her hands and blouse. Her grin is of pure unexpected happiness. " Oh my sister her wounds are healing before my eyes!! She is alive, thank goodness!!" She looks at all of you. "Thank you all!!"

Coalition intervention

[at the bridge]At that moment in the confusion a man wielding a laser rifle and wearing coalition deadboy armor rushes around from the bend at the end of the bridge and in an authoritative commanding voice yells at the villagers. " Step away from that woman!!" He levels his rifle in the direction of the woman crying out in happiness for her sisters miraculous recovery. A borg adorned with some coalition markings follows up behind him he has a giant chainsword in hand that has a silver glint to it, and a light rail gun strapped to his back. Running next to it is a sparking Glitter boy. From its PA, "MAJOR WAIT!"

What are your intentions?

Gm edit: half an hour has passed more or less for you ppe or isp folks. To be clear the party is split in this moment. [did max leave the keys in nadine, because a wild vamp in a titan armor is something I want to see]

Bane immediately drops his Detect Arcana and quickly and quietly casts Distorting Disguise (-7 PPE) on himself, Max, and Kesslan to make them all appear as a CS soldier in Dead Boy armor for Bane and CS Dog Boys in Dog Boy Armor for Max and Kesslan, with everyone carrying CS weapons.

Post by Kesslan »

Kesslan had become rather concerned at the appearance of the apparent CS soldiers, even turning to look at Max "How you want to play this? They'll want to kill us you know." he cautions. Of course that wasn't always the case. Now and then the CS did let 'feral' and runaway dogboys be. But usually not. He certainly wasn't going to go without a fight. But then Bane pulls his magic trick and then he's left looking rather confused. That he was feeling the effects of the leyline not too far away didn't help matters either, adding another layer of distraction. Still, he had to deal with one thing first, before dealing with another, and then apparently yet another. So, first the CS, then the vampire and leyline issue.

But.. wait. Wasn't it kind of odd the CS shows up just as the vampires did? Wait.. no no.. the dragon thing. That would have grabbed their attention for sure! But..

The dogboy couldn't help shake the feeling that maybe something was up. Maybe he was overthinking things but he took a closer look at the apparent CS troops arriving. Were they some decoy? Were they actual CS troops? Why did leylines give him headaches and why... "SQUIRREL!"

Bloody hell, this night just doesn't want to end.... Libertas was already partway under the truck when the new arrivals showed up, with his toolkit out so he could work on the damage from the fall to the suspension. Most sensible course of action, with that kind of firepower, was to roll all the way underneath and drag his toolkit with him; if they got orders to engage, he'd need to whip up something on the spot, anyway.

Max raises his pistol at the commotion of the CS soldiers chasing after them, but catches on quickly to Bane's ruse and returns to a low ready position. Max's head is on a swivel, and whatever psychic sense is knocked out by the presence of a ley line, he's still paying close attention to his surroundings.

Well, this is about to go to shit, Cantrell thinks as the dead boys and the borg show up. She steps up, arms out to her sides, trying to make herself a target instead of others who aren't wearing armored exo-skeletons. Then the Glitter Boy runs up: "MAJOR WAIT!"

"Hoy, Major. How's that Fifth Front?" Cantrell says, loudly, words tumbling out faster than her brain is processing. "Fifth Front" was slang from CS officer's school, a sort of safe word meant to grab attention when someone was focused on what was ahead, behind and to the sides. Basically, it boiled down to: "Look up, dipshit."

Of course, here it could just mean 'Shoot the deserter,' she thinks, trying to portray more confidence than she feels.

"Let's just all keep it cool for a minute. Things could get ugly if some of these casualties start standing up and feeling "better," so what say we all take the dead and wounded down to the river for a quick wash in the running water, and make our introductions like civilized people once we're sure the KOAs are actually KOA?"

Really? This had to happen now?

Wishing she had put her armor back on after Bane was done with it, Lucretia walks up beside Cantrell.

"Sargeant," she says, putting her hand on Cantrell's shoulder. "Let me take care of the civilian."
I hope she picks up on that.

Walking up to the civilian woman, she intentionally puts herself between the CS officer and the civilian. She crouches down, putting one hand on the shoulder of the 'dead' woman and the other on the shoulder 'dead' woman's sister.
I can at least put myself between them if this is what I think it is.

"Ma'am, please step back. We have to take precautions. Please, believe in me. Our highest priority is protecting all of you."

Kesslan eyes Maximilian at that last bit of phrasing. He didn't mind humans and generally others calling him a good boy, but other dog boys? That always seemed to him like a bit of a challenge, and this elicits a low growl at Max. He'd even nip at the other dogboy if it weren't for the present situation, so instead he resists that particular instinct. For now.

Southeast of Silver Bluff/Bridge
Night

“Careful. She’s asleep,” Jude said, handing the baby back to her mother. “And...well, she needs to be changed. Again. Keep the shirt.” He pulled his red shirt from his bag and pulled it on. He’d just finished strapping his armor on again when the exclamation of delight came from one of the townsfolk about her dead sister’s wounds healing.

Oh, that can’t be good…

And then the CS appeared, a deadboy, a borg, and...a glitterboy.

Wonderful…

Jude did a quick check where everyone was. Lucretia was retrieving the civilian woman. Probably a good idea. Best able to handle a new vamp, he figured. Libertas was under the truck. Stay there, kid, Jude thought. Might get out alive. And Cantrell...was pulling a bluff.

Well, better back her play.

Jude walked over and gave Cantrell a wink before stepping to the edge of the bridge.

“Hey! What took you guys so long?” he called across. “We put in the call about the vamps and dragon a half hour ago. You lose your way ‘cause shiny boy there blinded you?” He put the bravado and mocking camaraderie in his voice that he’d heard in various CS towns in his wandering.

God, I hope they don’t have the wanted listings memorized, Jude thought to himself.

“We’ve almost got things wrapped here, but the master vamp got away. Went south. You might be able to catch him if you hurry.”

When the CS soldiers see the CS soldier and CS dogs boys ( Bane, Max, and Kesslan) they stop and look at each other clearly out of breath from where ever they were coming from. But they recognize Bane's stripes and snap too.
One of them quickly says " Sir yes sir, we are defending the Silver Bluff township from a vampire incursion!"
The other one a bit less quickly chimes in, " Major Fitzbad ordered us to pursue three persons of interest north."

The first one relaxes a bit and unsuccessfully whispers to his friend, " Grease you should have seen it. I was looking through my scope the whole time. This Devil man steps out in front of that Priority alpha, or what ever the Major called it. He steps out in front of a freaken shadowed dragon bigger than the Titan all by himself, and next thing you know that dragon takes off! I know he's a Debee, but man I could never do that!"
Grease sort of face palms his helmeted head and quickly whispers, " Tommy regs man, regs!"
Tommy stands a bit more straight, " Uhh yeah, Sargent Bane did you see a Devil man, and 2 dog boys come this way? The Major was heading with Gunny, and that Bronze fella to have a chat with the new comers that intervened and destroyed the Silver Bridge-." The soldier stops suddenly for a couple of seconds.
He yells over to Bane, " Sargent that was the Major, word is the master vampire is heading south. We all have orders to pursue, he says two dog boys would be helpful. Ready to go get some vamps?" The two of them await the sarg and two dog boys but they look ready to go back the way you just came.

Confusion at the fallen bridge
CS Military specialist Major Fitzbad test of will resist vs Jude taunt [Parry:6 Toughness: 14(6)]
Smarts [dice]0[/dice]
Jude has a +2 vs the Major
CS Cyborg "Gunny" [ Parry 7 Toughness: 24(12)]

Momentarily Lucretia, Cantrell and Jude seem to get things to calm down. Several of the villiagers back away from the "Dead" sister including her alive sister. Suddenly gasps of horror and cries to whatever deity these people now believe in soon follow this all too brief lull. Whether Lucretia can see the incremental changes or not, everyone else sees this "dead" body begin a grotesque transformation looking more and more like the wild vampire's you just encountered.

The Glitter Boy tries another slightly less passionate "MAJOR PLEASE". At which the Major looks at the Glitterboy. The major's voice is filled with a mix of emotions, fury, pity, anger, sadness. " What would you have me do Bronze? There is only one way I know to handle this. My men and I did it on the other side of town, now we do it here."
The woman's alive sister did back away at Lucretia's urging but now she surges forward only to be pushed down by the major and his rifle. Lucretia is so close she can hear the Major whisper to the woman with a great heaviness in his voice, " I am so sorry.

The CS major looks at Cantrell. He nods to her and says with firmness, " Soldier bring the towns people to the river for a dunk, start with the Debee first."
The remaining villagers start to panic a bit, cries of uncertainty echo among them. The Mayor of the town looks at the Elven Dbee sobbing over his dead wife, " Oh no, is he a vampire too?!
The Major looks at Lucretia, " Miss you seem to have a handle on these folks, I need you to help me get these people back. It will not be pretty."
The Major nods at Jude, " Thanks for the intel. I have 2 guys going North I will reroute them, one sec... After a couple of seconds he continues with a bit of surprise in his voice, " Seems like they hooked up with a patrol from the 13th with two dog boys, that should be helpful. We can join up with them to hunt down this master vamp after we secure these villagers."
The Major with urgency in his voice calls, " Gunny! I don't know man, I just don't know!"
Despite the half hearted attempts of the Glitterboy to block the combat cyborg and its saddened plea from its PA, "NO, ISN'T THERE ANOTHER WAY MAJOR?"The combat borg wordlessly steps forward with its silvered great chain sword held high ready to fulfill his duty, but he gives pause as he sees the major's indecision.
The sister the major is restraining reaches out to Lucretia and grasps her hand. The sister's voice is strange as if an echo of another moment in time. Lucretia could swear she says, " I forgive you." Anyone else probably hears I will never forgive you.

What are your intentions?

Markus will lower his weapon, stand up and move to the Elf DBee and his dead wife.
"Yes sir!"
He pushes the elf husband away.
"Move on! We have to make sure, DBee."
He will toss the body of the dead wife to the water.

"I hope you don't need that hand too badly, Jude, 'cause I'm taking it off with my Vibro-Blade if that happens again," Cantrell mutters into her comm.

Seeing the flustered major issuing contradictory orders - does he mean to test for vamps with running water, or have his 'Borg pre-emptively slaughter the wounded? - she positions herself between the chainsaw-wielding cyborg and any villagers, be they living, dead or otherwise.

"Major, sir. If any of these casualties have been turned, running water's gonna have the same effect on them as that 'Borg's silver chainsaw. The optics'll be a whole lot better, though. No need to make a mess and leave a potentially hostile village on your six if your primary mission is hunting that master vamp," she says. "Why don't you let us handle the check and purge, so you can get on his trail?

What are your intentions?
"Alright, you two go on ahead and we'll take the rear position until we get back to the bridge." Bane says with no intention of following.

“Worth it,” Jude told Cantrell with a grin before putting on his game face to talk to the CS troopers.

Markus looked like he had the elf husband in hand, so Jude approached the grieving sister. He wanted Lucretia to be free and clear if they needed to handle the transforming sister.

“Come, miss. You don’t want to see this. Remember your sister as she was, not what she’s turning into.” Jude tried to turn her away and lead her off. He slipped his wooden cross into his hand just in case. “Why don’t you tell me about her?”

Deciding to be a little daring in attempting to assist Bane that they didn't need the CS soldiers along, something he wasn't even comfortable of the idea, he lets out a low growl. "We can handle him just fine." he grouses. His tone comes off as somewhat offended, but the glare he shoots the CS troops was much more of a 'back off of my hunt!' kind of look.

"Markus!" Lucretia shouts, disgust plain in her voice. "Show some compassion, soldier. Or do I need to give you another lesson in respect?"

She looks at her team, the CS, and the townsfolk.

"Alright - everyone gets a bath today - fallen, wounded, or alive. Now. Carry the fallen and wounded to the river, and everyone gets a dip."
She looks down at the dead woman.
This world is so cruel.
"This one requires special attention - no time to risk the long way to the river. I'll take care of it."

She picks the dead-ish woman up, and runs as swiftly as she can along the bridge, jumping off the shattered wreck of it into the water.

Jude settled the grieving sister well away from what was happening. “Here, take a nip of this,” he said, pulling out his flask and handing it to the woman. “It’s strong, so just sip it,” he warned her.

Stepping away a bit, Jude keyed up his comm. “Lucretia,” he said. The fact he didn’t use a nickname indicating his seriousness. “That woman who’s turning...I think she’s pregnant. I thought I saw a bump,” he warned, glancing back at the sister to be sure she hadn’t heard.

Crap in a hat, why did this have to suddenly get so complicated!

Making sure to stay near the woman, Jude looked to the CS sergeant. “So are you guys going to just stand there with your thumbs up your asses, or are you going after that master vamp and put a stake in his heart? We can take care of the villagers.”

The elven man runs after Markus whom tosses his wife into the flowing river[recall it is moving enough to give the Titan robot armor the unsteady platform penalty]. The elf cries out desperatly yet to no effect pawing at Markus' armor in a vain attempt to stop him. " No no, what are you doing! Effy!!!. Her body hits the water and floats away as apparently she was just dead. Markus can see out of the corner of his eye the cyborg nods in approval of the use of excessive force.

Major Fitbad releases the dead woman's sister. He approaches Cantrell with his rifle hanging loosly in his grip. He stands next to her and looks at the glitter boy and frantic mayor. " Is this what you want Bronze? These new comers to handle your charges. We know the dangers out there, we are prepared to deal with it decisively for the betterment of all humans. Thats what you get with us. Saftey, security, and love by an emperor that has been where you have been, knows what it takes to keep humanity safe." He falters a bit over the word decisively. The glitterboy scratches its chin thoughtfully.
Thankfully Jude steps in and comforts the sister the Major released before she can go back to her sister. The woman sobs into Judes shoulder, " She was going to name him krave. Oh why!?"
The Major was about to continue when at the urging of Libertas the borg steps forward and swings his silvered chainsword at the transforming sister only to be moments too slow as Lucretia whisks the tranforming woman away and dives with her into the river.

The water dissolves the woman who opens her eyes just before she melts away completly and whispers "Krave". As she melts away all that is left is tiny glowing baby barely aliave and now half drowing. Its glow is warm and breif, as if a bright light was within the baby spreading outward. It fades quickly ,and more than likely Lucretia could not even see it. The baby does not cry at all as it is in shock, its life hangs in the balance the next few seconds will be crucial to its survival. Lucretia herself might need help as well as the river's current starts to take her downstream. [this river as the picture of the town shows does end at a waterfall, the bridge is near that point], [it is safe to assume Lucretia has the baby more or less in her hands]
The Major however is unaware of Lucretia's actions as his focus is entirely on Jude. The major rips off his helmet, beads of sweat are running down his face, and his eyes look crazed as if he is no longer fully aware of what he is doing.
"Thumbs up our asses!! Who the hell are you! We just fought a legion of these blood suckers on the other side of town. We had to cut apart people we knew. Damnit Effy was frackin pregnent, we lost Franklin, Doc, two sweet little rugrats..." . The major tries to take a breath but his rage is all encompassing. He tosses his rifle aside, and pulls out a wooden stake holding it in Jude's face"is this what you want man! A stake to the heart! Damn man we are here to help these people not hack them to peices!". He bangs the stake against his temple and spats " Do it, we all know what happened at Garnet town, a few stangers came in and blew away Lt. Beehan. Disintegrated his damn head! Must be my turn! What are you waiting for!!.
[Jude has either a +2 against him next action, or the drop if you need to attack him]
The glitter boy calls to the major with a passionate plea, MAJOR YOU HAVE HELPPED US, WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE TOWN HAS BEEN ADMIRABLE, BUT THESE NEW COMMERS MAKE SOME GOOD POINTS. PLEASE CALMN DOWN.

Post by Lucretia »

The water is cold, colder than Lucretia expected, at least. The sudden shock of it almost pulls the breath from her lungs, but she manages to hold on to that, at least.
It moves so quickly, so much mass flowing around her is bewildering to her radar sense. The world is reduced to the cold, the feel of the body in her arms, and the sounds of rushing water.

Then she remembers that she never learned to swim.
Idiot! You're going to get yourself and the baby killed!

She tries to calm herself, center herself like the meditations Sir Cy had taught her. The feel of the woman's body dissipating in her arms, small chunks of proto-vampire flesh and viscera escaping out and oozing across her body does not help. She shifts her grip down to the woman's abdomen, feeling her hands sink through desolidified skin and organs, coming to rest gently around the child inside.

I don't think this is quite what they have in mind when they talk about water births. Gods, spirits, whatever is out there, at least save the child. If you need a sacrifice, take me instead. Though of course I would prefer to live too. I need to save my sisters, somehow. So... take my life, but later? Okay, even I recognize that doesn't seem like much of a bargain. Do what you will.

She kicks her legs, trying to bring herself to the surface, holding the newborn close, sharing her diminishing body heat. She thinks she feels the tiny heart beat grow stronger, but the surface eludes her. She thinks she's swimming toward it, but it's hard to pick out the pull of gravity from the pull of the river.

1: I hoped Markus actions (not words) give some bonus to the social conflict.
2: I will want him to go after Lucretia, try to take her off the river, and, after it, dramatically discover she is not human. That will do it for their relationship, for now, by the way. What I need to roll?]

Cantrell watches, increasingly alarmed, as the Coalition officer loses it. When the major removes his helmet, she briefly considers cracking him over the head with the butt of her rifle, but she's not sure how his chainsword-wielding 'borg buddy would react.

Some men would see the sense in it -- or wish they'd had the chance to clock an officer, she thinks/ Others might react like you just smacked their mama. Better take the safe route 'til I've got a better idea what -- and who -- we're dealing with."

"Major, major, wait. Everything's cool here. Your sacrifices and those of your men are noted and appreciated," she says, moving slowly into his field of vision, trying not to spook him. "We may not be in the same uniform, but we're all on the same side, here -- the enemy is the bloodsucker running off to the south. That's your priority now, to stop this sort of thing from happening again. Go get that master vamp, and we'll look after the townsfolk and save who we can save."

He flies expertly to hover an inch from the river turbulent water, and inclines to grab Lucretia from her armor. The servos from the armor make the lifting very easy, so Markus is able to pull Lucretia into the passenger seat of the hoverbike.
And it is a good thing for the armor also to hide his face, as the blood is drained from it, and his mouth is wide open, at realizing "Lucretia" is not human. Something inside him breaks and revolts.

Post by Kesslan »

Kesslan is taken aback when the monster vine things pop out and start attacking the two troops. He didn't trust anyone who was CS, technically didn't like them. But he didn't hate them. At least not without due cause, which he didn't really have in this particular instance. All that meant he felt responsible for helping them. Annnnd then Lucretia starts being swept away by the river! And then Markus comes in swooping along to save the day, so Kesslan makes towards the soldiers, or more to the point towards the tentacle things from the river that had grabbed the two soldiers. Of course, again, without thinking he brings forth his burster abilities. So now not only was he a rogue dog boy, but now he was a burster, something the CS generally didn't like!

But in the end that didn't matter.

Helping people mattered!

"YOU LET THEM GO!" he bellows as he bursts into white hot flames and just launches himself right at the tentacle things and sets about trying to tear and burn them away. So hot were the flames surrounding him the very water itself began to boil near him while nearby plants and other potentially flammable things soon began to wither and burn.

Any time a Burster causes damage with a flame ability, roll a d10 (instead of the usual d6 as indicated in Savage Worlds under Fire). Anything flammable catches fire on a 6 –10, while highly flammable targets ignite on a 3 –10. Things that normally don’t catch fire (metal, ceramics, stone) ignite from a Burster’s flames on a 10, or at least begin to melt. Water super-heats and evaporates nigh-instantly on a 10 as well, and boils away over 2d6 rounds on an 8 or 9.

Oh for the love of all that's.... Right, if we're gonna critically fail, let's go Epic.

Libertas peers out from under the truck, the increasingly fraught situation getting almost impossible for him to understand audibly--it would've been confusing for a normal human, let alone someone who is hearing it all out of sync. He spots the Major getting swept downriver--and as he turns to his gear-pack to see what might help her, he fails to spot Markus already gliding down to the rescue. Gotta go fast!

[OOC: Making an agility roll at -2 to pull out the Beetle Box again as a free action; if that fails, he can still cast, but with the Multi-Action penalty.

Activating the Beetle Box, Libertas is once again cloaked in the shadowy beetle-shroud, and zooms out from underneath the truck, going for the river as fast as he can in order to rescue... Oh, good, Markus already... Oh, crap on a stick.... Because, of course, the CS team, which might not have spotted the Cyber-Knight's face yet, damn sure saw a geek covered in shadows zooming out from underneath a freaking truck. Jude, if you can keep them from shooting me out of the sky, I will never have another bad thought about you again.

Shat! This thing is going sideways in a hurry! What on rifted earth possessed me to leave Nadine at the bridge?! Max curses to himself as he watches Bane and Kesslan intervene to save the lives of the CS soldiers.

I don't have nearly the firepower that my boys do. I don't know what this is, but my itty bitty laser isn't going to win the day unless I can hit the source. Not happening. Gorram it!

He springs to action. Holstering his pistol and reaching for a length of rope, he rushes to the nearest sturdy tree and wraps the rope around it in order to act as a pulley. He then races to the water's edge to give at least one of these soldiers something to hold on to. If he can use himself as an anchor, maybe he can keep somebody from getting sucked under the water, or even pull them free.

Jude saw Lucretia go into the river. He wanted to help her, but Marcus seemed to have things in hand. He turned back to the CS Major, who freaked out on him.

“Calm down, man!” Jude said. He put his hands on the major’s shoulders, giving him a bit of a shake. “You’ve done good so far. But the job isn’t done yet. Pull it together. Here, have a drink.” He handed the major his flask. “We’re on the same side here, if you want to be. The side that aces these vamps before they can hurt anyone else. Your men need you to keep it together, to lead them. When this is over, we can all get right proper shit-faced and toast those we’ve lost. Until then, there’s a master vampire out there in the darkness.”

Max wraps the rope around a tree, then throws the other end of the rope to one of the entangled CS troopers. "GRAB ON! HOLD TIGHT!" he yells at the trooper. He pulls at his end of the rope, with the tree as a fulcrum, throwing his entire body into the effort. Whether it was finesse, pure brute strength, or just blind luck, Max lunges forward in a last effort against the creature just as the tentacle was re-wrapping itself around the CS trooper. The creature loses its grip, and the trooper launches forward out of the reach of the monster. Max stumbles forward with the release of the counter-pressure. He scrambles over to the trooper and hauls him away from the water to relative safety.
"You okay, grunt? You're lucky I'm good at fetch!"

Pender Lumkiss wrote:Resolution up the river

With the creatures tentacles failing to capture its prey. One tentacle was withered by flame never to be used again, and the other CS grunt was pulled free by Max. All three of you hear in your heads a foul vile voice, murky and deep, but with a sprinkle of panic Ahh! Coalition, not ready, not ready!!. The tentacles quickly retreat and disappear underneath the flowing river.

The two CS grunts take off their helmets and look at their would be saviors closely. The one called Grease has jet black hair and a friendly smile, he reaches out to shake Kesslan's hand.
" Boy I don't know where you came from, and maybe I shouldn't but thank you so much! Your secret is safe with me man!"

Tommy on the other hand, has blonde hair and a furrowed brow half way hiding his panic stricken baby blue eyes. He shakes his head trying pulling on Grease's arm to get him to move away from Kesslan. He gives Max a quizicle look unsure what to say in the midst of such a display of power. " Uhh Grease, I don't know... Thanks for the help Sarg and dogboy, but maybe you three should hang back like you said... Whatever you guys got going on in the 13th maybe we should stay out of it." Tommy is pulling Grease back helping him put his helmet on. Once secured Tommy does the same. The two are silent for a moment and then Grease speaks in a disappointed voice.
" Well Sarg and boys, Tommy might have a better handle on this than me. Looks like this is where we part ways." The two of them gather their gear and turn to leave, and from Greases hand you see 3 grenades slip from it. He nods at the last moment in silent thanks and takes off towards the bridge running after Tommy.

Social conflict result:
TL: 6
CS: 0

Clarification
-Tracking party is about 15 minutes from the bridge
-Soldad's scent last detected was heading north along the river ( away from the bridge), but it is no longer detectable
-Layline became visible as you rounded a bend in the river, it is about 3 hours away.
-Coalition grunts Tommy and Grease are taking off heading south back to the bridge area
-3 grenades were left by Grease players choice on what they are.
-The Maelstrom-Maker has left the area

What are you intentions? Going to town, following the CS, heading to the Layline, finding the bridge party? Heading back to the bridge? I just am trying to get a clear picture of what happens next.

" I've heard horrible stories... Uhh thank you.". She moves back to the villagers who are huddling together whispering about the events that had just transpired.
The CS combat cyborg, recognizes a kindred spirit within Markus and approaches him. His silvered chainsword is still drawn, perhaps now angling towards Lucretia. To Markus he drones, We can end her, end the abomination."
"THESE PEOPLE ARE WELCOMED VISITORS TO THE TOWN OF SILVER BLUFF NO HARM WILL COME TO THEM.". The gillter boy steps forward, its front hatches pop and his opening enough to let a skinny old man wearing a karate ghee that has seen better days. Red patches of hair slatter his mostly bald head. He approaches to greet the team, stooping to grab a fallen scarf off the ground, he hands it to Lucretia. He will firmly shake each hand if offered!
" I am Bronze, this town is my protectorship, you have my word no harm will come to any of you." One of the villagers pips up that you are from the legion of tomorrow. Bronze smiles wide. He looks at the coalition soldiers.
"Major you have seen our town through much turmoil tonight, if you could bear another task and go to the south in search of the vampire that caused all this despair." The cs major grabs the borg.
He gives a resigned sigh taking one last swig of Judes flask he hands it back in wonderment of Jude's platinum plated tongue. He commands, " Gunny, lets go. We can meet up with the boys, and the dog boys from the 13th and find this bastard." Just before he puts his helmet on he casts a side long look at Cantrell, perhaps just admiring her armor a tad. Once helmed he gives her a curt nod, and he and the borg move out across the stepping stone path and into the forest on the other side.
Bronze touches each baby lovingly and turns to the team, he happily says, " Thank you so much for saving our children. Whatever you need our village will be willing to give." He gives a long look at Libertas before continuing. " Young man, you gave us a bit of a start zooming out like that covered in shadow. For a second I thought a flying vampire had descended on us. You are probably lucky my boom gun is out of commission.". He laughs heartily, "Its been so long, probably would have a bad idea to use it in close quarters." He cocks his head to one side looking at the Titan and mountaineer.
" You are more than welcome to use our shop, our mechanic disappeared a week ago, but its yours while you are here." He points to the Titan, still stationary, " If you want to hop in your vehicles we can head in. Thank you again."

TL:13
CS: 7

Clarification
-Still separated from Bane, Max, Kesslan... If you guys want to leave a Titan unattended no problem...
-Lucretia's level of fatigue from nearly drowning dissapears in 5 minutes!
-CS soldiers are heading south per the players directions ( This is in the wrong direction that Kesslan and Max were tracking the vampire's scent.)
-Mega power version of detect arcana will reveal the true nature of the babies
-Soldad's ring is no longer magical, the purple stone is worth 20,000 creds, +10% per each raise on a persuasion check assuming you can find a buyer. Should bane look at it, kn: Arcana you would recognize some unique arcane symbols.

Max salutes the departing CS troopers. "Good hunting, boys." Max waits until they're out of earshot, then heads to scoop up the 3 grenades, collects his rope, and turns to Bane and Kesslan. "Shall we head back to town? We might as well regroup with the rest of our crew, yeah?"
Max leans over to his communicator. "Bridge crew, check in? We've lost the scent. What's your status, commander?"

Libertas smiles at Bronze, blushing just a bit. "Sorry about that, I didn't realize Markus had things under control, thought the Sergeant would need help in the river, with the baby and all. Still, glad it turned out alright." He looks at the gleaming suit of power armor. "You know, sir... if you've got the parts, I could probably get that beauty up to full function again, if my Sergeant approves of the time--we might need to do it after the vamp situation is dealt with, though. Seems a shame to limit her to just thumping people over the head."

As Markus gets the Cyborg to head away from Lucretia, Libertas walks past her, and murmurs, very softly, so she's the only one who hears. "You're not the only one in the Legion to try to pass. Hell, you're not the only one in this unit." A bit more loudly, he then adds, "I'm thinking we should get half a dozen crossbows, and as many bolts as these good folks can give us, Sergeant. I can also rig up a solar lamp that'll give those monsters a very, very bad time of it."

I lost the visor. It was the last thing I had left from him. No, that's not true. I have my freedom and my future. Those are the greatest gifts he gave me.

"Thanks Markus. For the save, and for having my back."
There's hope for him yet.

She takes the scarf from Bronze, and shakes his hand with a smile.
"Thank you, Mr. Bronze. I think I can speak for my entire team when I say we are happy to have been able to help."

Tying the scarf around her head like a living depiction of Blind Lady Justice, she addresses the crowd, hoping to ease their fears.

"Yes, I am one of the Altara, the Blind Warrior Women known to serve the the Spluggorth of Atlantis. You are wise to be wary. My sisters do terrible things in the service of their masters. I myself have done terrible, unforgivable things. However, I do not serve them any more. I am one of the lucky few to break free - for we are born slaves, taught from birth to believe their lies, and to serve their whims... but now I serve a higher cause. I am a cyber-knight in service to Lord Coake, and I will fight for you against these vampires. They cannot be allowed to harm any more innocents."

She turns to the departing CS.

"Major, wait. We may not have much in common, but we do have a common enemy. We would all be better off if we could find a way to work together on this."
I hope this isn't a huge mistake.

Cantrell shivers as the major gives her the once-over, then lets out a long, slow breath when the Coalition remnants move south, leaving the members of the 13th alone with the townsfolk gathered at the shattered bridge.

Well, that didn't go as planned, she thinks, grateful that the Tomorrow Legion appears to have been stocked with heroes capable of thinking on their feet. Suicidal heroes, one and all. But quick-thinkers.

She looks to Lucretia when Max's radio message comes across her receiver, then flicks on her own comm to respond:

Roger that, Max. The sergeant is temporarily indisposed, but bridge crew is A-OK, following a rather tense encounter with Coalition forces. Some casualites among the townsfolk, so we're going to head with them into town center. One of us can hang back with Nadine and wait for you if you want to hustle back.

She approaches Lucretia, politely waiting for the Altaran to finish speaking with Bronze. She nods in agreement when Lucretia offers to follow the vampire.

"Crystal clear on the mission objective, Sergeant, but perhaps it's worth a quick stop at the village first? Bane and the Dog Boys are headed back this way, and it wouldn't hurt to let everyone catch their breath and check their gear. A little resupply would help, too -- I know I'd like to see if they have crossbows for sale. My current loadout doesn't include much that will be effective against bloodsuckers. It'd give us a chance to work out a better plan, too."

Cantrell spares a glance at the cloth covering Lucretia's face, trying not to imagine the blank skin underneath the blindfold. Blind or not, we're both traitors. If I can hope for redemption, doesn't she deserve the same?

She coughs, before speaking more softly.

"Someone probably ought to stay back and wait with Nadine until Max and the others get back. I'm happy to do it, but if you want to, it's a chance to get your armor back on and make yourself a little more ... presentable. Probably do the townsfolk some good to see a real live cyber-knight walk into town in full regalia. And it might help ease any ... uncertainties they might have about us.

Kesslan 'snuffs' out the flames about him when the threat appears to be either gone, or at least on the run. He just stares out at the water with a low growl for a moment before calming down, though keeping a wary eye out to the surroundings. The one soldier initially offering to shake his hand before it's pulled away is given a somewhat surprised and ear perked look from the dogboy. "Well... just seemed the right thing to do." He says to the two CS troops. "Things like that the real enemy." When the two depart, Kesslan focuses on sniffing about, making sure there's nothing else nasty lurking about.
Maximilian wrote:"Shall we head back to town? We might as well regroup with the rest of our crew, yeah?"]
Kesslan lets out a low grunt. "Guess so. Vamps gonna be too far ahead of us now."

"Well, we may have lost the scent, but I have a good idea of where Soledad went, so it's not a total bust. Yeah, let's head back to the bridge, but let's hang back for a few so the CS soldiers can get back there and they can all clear out of there." Bane says.

When they get within visual range of the bridge, Bane will motion for all of them to get down behind some bushes so that they can better assess the situation and see if the CS are still there.

If after 15 minutes the CS are still there, he'll whisper to Kesslan and Max "I can Disguise us again before we go out on the bridge, but we'll only have 10 minutes before we have to get out of their sight again, and even after that I wouldn't have enough mystical energy for an hour before I could disguise us again, so I think we should just walk out there. Technically we haven't lied to them yet, with the exception of my disguising us, and we did save their guys, so that should hopefully weigh in our favor if it comes down to that."

With that, Bane goes to the remains of the bridge and cautiously begins to cross it with his hands down but away from his sides, intently watching for any reaction out of the CS soldiers, stopping the second that weapons are drawn on them.

The towns people look at Lucretia in amazement, some of them murmer The lady of justice!. Others breatheThe Hero of Silver Bluff. The Mayor comes forward and shakes your hand, if you let him he raises it high in triumph. "The blind lady of Justice!".

The Major pauses a moment to hear any words, while you might have expected a terse answer from him, his voice is friendly and appreciative. " Whatever your background is Cyber-knight, there is no denying these people and we owe you. I may not agree with you being on our planet, but I am glad you came to this town." The Cyborg also stops, his hand resting on his chainsword, no not resting more like preparing to swing into action should the major so order him. Two more CS soldiers arrive and nod to the major falling in line with the borg.

Behind them a few minutes out the players notice Bane, Max, and Kesslan approach near the waters edge doing their best to stay hidden from the CS.

[At this point the CS are all together talking to Lucretia on the silver bluff side of town. Bane, Max, Kesslan, are on the opposite side "hiding". With the CS soldiers backing down, the situation calms. Jude turns to Lucretia, crawling out of the river. For a moment he admires the way her wet suit clings to her form, but then his gaze travels up to her face and he starts, staring into the blank flesh where her eyes should be. He instinctively makes a sign warding off evil as he’d been taught as a child.

“Um...glad you’re...okay, Top Dog,” Jude manages to stammer out, his platinum tongue suddenly leaden. “If you all want to head into town, I can babysit the tin can.”

Jude walks over to Nadine and climbs up inside. “Think I can drive this thing?” he asks, slipping into the pilot seat and looking at the controls. “Might be able to figure it out. Is this the on button?” He pushes a button.

I’m fine to move Jude into town. He’ll try and pilot Nadine in so we don’t have to leave it, or at least until Max chases him out!

Would this be a fine opportunity to play my Renown card? Or was saving the small town not of enough import for that? Because, you know, Jude needs a permanent +1 Charisma :D

Paying no heed to Jude's warding off of evil - it's not the first she's seen it - Lucretia continues to address the Major.

"The vampire we fought - Soldad - is very powerful. We were able to chase him off, but partly that's because we caught him by surprise."

She pauses, formulating her thoughts.

"We were lucky. Our fight was not as costly as yours, but it could have been. I have sworn to end the vampire Soldad, but to do that means fighting on his home turf, on his terms. You've had one tough and costly fight, and if you rush off to an even more dangerous fight, the consequences could be disastrous... and your losses would bolster his forces, making the next assault even harder. Let us set aside our differences in the short term, and rid this world of a greater threat."

She smiles.

"We should sit down together, share intel, and develop a plan for a joint strike. Think what harm the vampire could do to your people here and back home - surely protecting them is worth the distaste of working with us."
It's worth the distaste of working with the CS.

Chuckling, she addresses the cyborg.

The Major nods as Lucretia is speaking. " You were not the only ones caught by surprise. The vampire's attacked the town coming seemingly out of nowhere. If it were not for I believe his name was Mr. Marvin sensing something was amiss the town could have been over run." The Major squirms a bit when you say Distaste.
" I have no problem sharing Intel to defeat this common enemy... It has been a long eventful evening perhaps we can make our way to the town proper, and gather our thoughts then meet to share information in the morning. The Major sets his hand on Gunny's chain sword lowering it for the borg.
"When the time comes we will have your backs." In possibly the most unexpected of actions he shakes each person's hand at the river thanking them properly. The other two CS soldiers that just arrived follow suite, one is named Grease and the other is Tommy. The combat borg however just stands frozen watching and waiting its chain sword lowered.

"Carefull up there, Maverick. Titan's started using those electrified security measures, and I've heard the shock can cause permanent damage to your ability to ... uh ... perform," she says, laughing. "On second thought, knock yourself out."

Max's voice rings out clear, with authority, sprinkled with just the slightest hint of good humor. "I get the idea that you get around, Maverick, but Nadine is a one dog lady! Look, don't touch!" Max trots up to the Titan and gives her a loving caress.
"Did you miss me, girl? I missed you just terribly! Don't you worry. I won't be leaving you again anytime soon." Max clicks his fob, and the latches on Nadine release, waiting for her proper pilot to fire her back up. He winks at Jude. "You won't get very far without the fob or the code. Come on, pal. Let's get her parked somewhere less conspicuous." He motions for Jude to join him in the crew compartment, if he so chooses.

Jude looked down at Cantrell from atop Nadine. “What was that, Nadya?” he called back. “Were you offering to help me recover should that happen?” He grinned and waved back at her. “Nothing like some good physical therapy.”

Max’s voice calls out and Jude looks down to see the dogboy trot up. “Pup, you better make sure I don’t nick your keys for a joy ride one of these days,” he said, his good humor returning. “I’ll meet you in town. Maybe ride with you where it’s safe if we go after master vamps later. We’ll see.” He wasn’t sure how much good he would do.

Scampering down, Jude grabbed up his pack and dug around in his bag. He pulled out a pair of stylish, expensive sunglasses.

“Hey, Top Dog,” Jude said quietly as he slipped up next to Lucretia. He slipped the shades into her hand. Then he ran up ahead and put his arm around an attractive young village woman, who giggled and looked over at him shyly as he asked her name.

  • Enemy: Play at the beginning of the game session. A villain of the GM’s choice becomes your character’s sworn enemy and you may not soak wounds caused directly by him. Starting now, you draw an extra Adventure Card each game session until the enemy is “retired.”

When Max breaks cover, Bane realizes that his hiding spot wasn't very good to begin with, so he walks out on to the bridge, cautiously eyeing the CS forces as he walks over to Lucretia, where upon realizing that she's really an Altara, his reaction is essentially meh. He will speak to her saying "Ma'am, whenever you have a moment, I'd like to talk to you in private."

Libertas accepts the Major's handshake, even managing a smile as he does so, then gets in the ATV's driver's seat, starts up, and will drive into town once everyone's loaded in. Once they've had a chance to bunk down for a reasonable nap, he'll ask for directions to the garage; he needs to fix the vehicle, then maybe help that Glitterboy get up to full power if Bronze is up for it.

For his own part was a little nervous just being there openly around the CS troops. But so far at least they weren't trying to shoot him and he was quite content to simply leave them alone so long as they weren't trying to kill D-Bees or doing any of the other things the CS were said to do to people they didn't like. "So umm.. careful round the river. Some water creature thing attacked a couple of troopers n' tried to kill em. Pretty sure it only went after them because they were close enough. It ran off but it could come back."

Lucretia accepts the Major's handshake with no (apparent) reservations. "That sounds like an excellent idea, Major."

Taking the shades from Jude with a grateful nod, she calls after him as he jogs on: "That's not my name!", but from the tone it is clearly more jocund than annoyed.

The CS mechanic Grease does a bit of a double take when he sees the devil man, and twomdog boys approach. At Kesslan's comment about what happened to the troopers, and the mention of Banethro he jabs his friend Tommy with his elbow.
"Thats him man, the Devil man that stared down that dragon. Oh those must be the 13th we met, awesome! Do you think it was a spell or some kind of holo feild?". Grease for his part offers to shake Bane, Kesslan, and Maximilian's hand warmly and with no small amount of excitement.

When the CS Soldier Grease offers his hand to Bane for a handshake, Bane looks at it for a moment, then accepts the handshake tensely at first then he slowly eases up and says almost breathlessly "Thanks."

Bane follows Lucretia over to the Mountaineer and leans up against it while looking down and away to give her some modesty as she changes and starts talking low enough so that only she can hear him "Do you think we should inform the LT to get a back-up team together? In case everything goes sideways, at least the Legion will be able to send another team to take over. We also need to warn them about Soledad as well, again just in case everything goes sideways, the Legion will at least know that there is a powerful master vampire with in a day's drive to the castle. I think we should let them know if we don't report in by 12 pm, it probably means we're either dead or have been turned. To be clear, I'm not suggesting that we abandon going after Soledad because he's too big of a threat to leave alone this close to the castle. But we have to let them know about it in case we aren't enough, plus letting them know there is a significant chance that we may not be able to complete our original task."

After speaking with Lucretia about that, he'll go to Bronze and ask "Can you show me to the bar, I'm famished!"

Max hesitates, only momentarily, but extends his hand to Grease. Might as well make a friend. The fewer people who want to shoot at us, the better.

[OOC: Trying to befriend him.]
The impationate cyborg looks down at Markus. While still glaring at the Debees in the team, he does slide his chain sword into its sheath which is strapped to his back. Its hard to get a read on the gleaming soldier's facial expression, but his posture definately goes from hostile to more neutral. Very monotone, and factual he drones, "Half-way through the war I was a meat-bag, I got caught in a massive explosion while trying to take out an encampment of Debee wizards. Friendly fire took out the enemy position and me with it. The major dragged me out of there." The borg pauses almost as if he did not realize he was relaying a very personal moment until he finished. He shifts uncofortably, " You said you were well on your way to becoming like me, in what ways?"

Grease takes a moment to hangout with Maximilian and Kesslan. Strangly he is fairly enthusastic when you talk about how he and his friend Tommy were almost snatched. " I know that was insane, we were talking to you, but not you, the 13th you. Both you guys scared me and Tommy realbad, and then boom, we were being dragged toward the water. You come in with a rope and are all like ha, hey, ha." Grease. is trying his best to emulate Maximilian's rope trick. Then he spreads his hands wide and tumbles them about as if mimicking a firey feild, " Man, and then you come over, and woosh! Fire erupts, I mean fire!". He takes off his helmet, showing a small burn above his eye, " Look here it was so hot, I felt it through the armor!"

Bronze nods to Bane and chuckles," I would of course be happy to show you our bar. It and the inn are the same. While it does not have a proper name..." Bronze gestures to Lucretia, " Deeds, Heroic Deeds. News of what has happened here will travel fast in a town like this, I suspect before the night is concluded our little inn will have a rightful name."

"That dragon and all the vampires trying to steal the babies was bad enough.. then that thing showed up and grabbed you so I got kinda mad about it. Lot of bad monsters hurting people."
Grease flashes Kesslan a quick smile. " Are you kidding? That was awesome! My father would be rolling in his grave to know I had seen what I had seen ya know. All my life I grew up hearing about how horrible Dbees are or how magic is evil. Man most people from the burbs treat dog boys like they are worthless. I joined up mostly to see if was all true. " Grease puts an arm arround Kesslan and whispers, " I still got a lot left to see, and sometimes the worst does show up, but you and your friends here would give the folks back home something to talk about."

The Cyborg looks over Markus at Grease disaproving of his exubrance. Grease, you missed the important part of what the dog boy said. I told you there was something off about the vampire attack ." The combat borg somehow manages to make dog boy sound like a racial slur.

The major commands the troops cutting off any more chatter, " Alright boys, grab your gear and lets head back."

Kesslan 'ohs' at Grease's response. And if he's offended by the cyborg's tone he doesn't show it. Then again he was probably used to such things given many people tended to look at Dogboys that way for one reason or another. All Kesslan does is scratch at his head a little "Uh... ok." and then with that heads off to join the others at the inn.

Markus smiles.
"Maybe not like you, as we in the NGR don't go full conversion so commonly as you do here in the Americas. But we do improve ourselves to fight the DBees invading our world. And we do have first grade cybernetics, better than those in the Americas."
Markus proudly shows his improvements to the cyborg.
"But I have to say you are a work of art, my brother. Keep giving the good fight, and one day we will reclaim these planet."
