Hover Truck

Post by Koshnek »

Could someone help me Rifts this Hover Truck up? I started with Sci-Fi companion with the goal of getting the truck to be close to a Big Boss ATV, but still clearly a pickup truck. The Top Speed isn't listed because I'm not 100% sure how to convert it.

The purpose of this truck is to haul a mobile alcohol distillery and storage facility. The guy driving it is a dwarf. More importantly, the driver is a dwarf who prefers to be drunk but does not have any driving skill.

I have 394700 to spend on the truck. The APB is already paid for, but I could use any remaining funds from the truck build to add useful systems. I'm open to suggestions and tweaks.

Hover Truck (256K)
  • Toughness 26(12) MDC; Size 4 (Large)
  • Crew: 1+1
  • Handling: +2
  • Mods Remaining: 4
  • Artificial Intelligence: The vehicle’s AI can operate all systems—from driving to weapons. It has a skill level of d10 in these tasks, but is an “Extra” and does not receive a Wild Die. The AI does not suffer from multi-action penalties if given simultaneous tasks. In combat, the AI acts on the driver’s Action Card. Giving the AI a short verbal command is a free action.
  • Hover: The vehicle hovers over the ground and ignores most Difficult Ground penalties caused by low terrain obstacles or water and can handle drops of about 100 feet with no maneuvering roll required.
  • Sensor Targeting Suite (STS): Provides advanced communication (radio range 20-miles) and a full sensor suite with HUD (Heads Up Display) readouts incorporating chemical, 360 degree radar, thermal imaging, active night vision, 50× magnification optics, and audio pickups that can catch whispers at 100 yards—grants +2 to Notice rolls and ignores Illumination penalties.
Onboard targeting systems negate up to 2 points of Range, Multi-Action, and other penalties when Shooting its weapons. The system also includes an Improved Stabilizer, see Vehicles in Savage Worlds. (The Unstable Platform penalty is reduced to 0 for the vehicle’s main weapon.)
Hover Truck Build
SFC Truck: 12k, 15 mods, 6 crew, size 4, 15(4) Acc/TS 10/20
  • Hover (Anti-Grav): Ultra Tech. The vehicle is an aircraft powered by anti-gravitic propulsion. It can hover or fly, and has a Acc/TS of 30/100 and Climb of 2.
    4x20k=80k (-2 Mods) = 13 Mods
    4x10k = 40k (0 mods)
  • Crew Reduction: Add 1 Mod slot for every four crewman deducted (round up).
    -4 Crew (2) +1 Mod = 14 Mods
  • Handling (2): The vehicle is precision crafted and very maneuverable. This adds +2 to Piloting rolls.
    Size 4 x 5k = 20k x2 = 40K, -1 Mods x2= 12 Mods
  • Reinforced Chassis: Increases Toughness of the chassis by +3.
    Size 4 x1k= 4kx3=12k -3 Mods = 9 Mods
  • (RIFTS) STS: 20k -1 Mod = 8 Mods

Hover Truck (204k, 9 Mods, 2 Crew, Size 4, 18(4), Acc/TS 30/100, Climb 2)

    Size 4 x2k = 8k x4 =32k+204k=236k; -4 mods (5 Remaining)
  • STS: A sensor suite and targeting system, see above.
    Size 4 x5k=20k+236k=256k; -1 Mod (4 Remaining)

All-Purpose Boxcar (130k)
Created according to Northern Gun standards, APTs attach to heavy ground vehicles like hovertrains and “Big Bertha” cargo haulers. They have no motive power of their own and must be pulled by a locomotive or tractor.
  • Toughness: 30(8); Size: 8 (Huge);
  • Crew: 0
  • Handling: -1
  • Mods Remaining: 23
  • Hover: The vehicle hovers over the ground and ignores most Difficult Ground penalties caused by low terrain obstacles or water and can handle drops of about 100 feet with no maneuvering roll required.
  • Professional Station: The professional station provides a +2 bonus to perform the skill and allows the operator to ignore up to 2 points of penalties to related skill checks. Use other Mod slots as Cargo Space to provide room to house patients, store raw materials, work on vehicles, or the like. See the Science Fiction Companion.

Apparently, there is a hover car.

NG-HC106 Hover Car (200k)
Sold throughout North America, the NGHC106 is the civilian version of Northern Gun’s popular hover car (itself a knockoff of the CS AFC-105). There are many knockoffs, but they all have the same basic features and performance listed here.
  • Toughness 22 (10) MDC; Size 4 (Large)
  • Top Speed: 150 MPH; Handling +1
  • Crew: 1+4,
  • Remaining Mods: 4
  • Notes: ECC, STS, VTOL.
Pick up AI (10k x Size 4 [40k])
Drop ECC (Mod per Size Scale above Small [Medium -> Large = 2 Mods] 2k x Size 4 = -8k)
Pick up +2 Handling if Allowed (2 Mods; 5k x Size 4 = 20k x 2 = 40k)
Add Fuel Reserve (2 Mods x 2 = 4 Mods; 1k x Size 4 = 4k x2 = 8k)

200K + 40K + 40k +8k = 288k - 8k = 280k

  • Top Speed: 150 MPH; Handling +3
  • Crew: 1+4,
  • Remaining Mods: 0

All-Purpose Boxcar (236k)
Created according to Northern Gun standards, APTs attach to heavy ground vehicles like hovertrains and “Big Bertha” cargo haulers. They have no motive power of their own and must be pulled by a locomotive or tractor.
  • Toughness: 35(12); Size: 8 (Huge)
  • Crew: 0
  • Top Speed: 0; Handling: -1
    • In a pinch, APTs can be pushed or pulled by hand at a maximum speed of 5 –10 MPH (see Super Strength in The Tomorrow Legion Player’s Guide).
  • Mods Remaining: 4
  • Armor: Vehicle’s Armor value +4.
  • Environmental Crew Compartment: Protects the crew with a sealed life support system—provides immunity to the Hazards of Cold, Heat, Disease, Poison, Drowning, Electricity, and Radiation. Includes one day of emergency supplies and air for crew per Size of the vehicle.
  • Fuel Reserve: Extends the vehicle's Max Range by 100%.
  • Hover: The vehicle hovers over the ground and ignores most Difficult Ground penalties caused by low terrain obstacles or water and can handle drops of about 100 feet with no maneuvering roll required.

The vehicle has an extended superstructure with bunk beds, personal storage bins for up to eight individuals, and one shared bathroom and kitchenette (regardless of how many times this is taken) for long-term travel. The superstructure decreases overall Toughness by 1 each time it’s taken. The limit is half the vehicle’s base Toughness.
  • Luxury Features: Typically reserved for civilian vehicles, luxury features include music systems, minibars, video screens, and other comforts. The larger the vehicle, the more extravagant the features.
