Great. Jasco and Severianna, each of you can go ahead and start a new post in this topic and I'll get your character sheets transferred over.

I have tried to re-create the Jasco character thread here (touching up the backstory and including a couple things I missed on the original sheet [adding +2 charisma to streetswise and persuade. Correcting common knowledge to reflect smarts trait rather than d6]), but seem to have run into an issue with the original rolls not transferring over.Tribe of One wrote:Great. Back when I was a GM over in EU, I thought there was an easy way to wholesale move a thread to a different forum heading. It was in the moderator controls I believe. And didn't require a new thread to be created in order to merge them.

Re: OOC Chat
For anyone who hasn't, go ahead and start a thread in this forum for your character sheet.

Re: OOC Chat
There's actually an easier way to move the characters over:
1: Go to the Recruitment or Supporting Cast Forum (whichever has the character creation thread).
2: Click "Moderator Control Panel" in the upper right corner. You'll get a list of all the threads currently in that Forum, with checkboxes on the left side.
3: Click any checkboxes for threads you want moved.
4: Go down to the bottom, select "Move" in the "Desired Action" dropbox, and click Submit.
5: Unclick the checkbox for "Keep Shadow Topic".
6: Click Confirm or Submit or whatever.
I just did it for Sir Blurre to make sure it would work right.

Great, I'll do that for the others. Then how do change the account the post is associated with? Like, if the character sheet for Blurre was originally posted by your Freemage account, how do I switch it to your new Blurre account?

Don't sweat the rolls not transferring, and blame my inexperience for the poor instructions. I'll get everyone moved over as soon as I get a free hour or two, hopefully tonight.

Click the ? marker in the lower right corner of the post you want to change (mouseover is 'Post Details'). Scroll down, and you'll see an option for Change Poster, with a text box. Enter the name of the person you're changing it over to. If you've already done this, there's also a dropbox below that that lists names you've done the change-over to before. (So mine, for instance, contains all my PC names, as well as my Freemage account.)Tribe of One wrote:Great, I'll do that for the others. Then how do change the account the post is associated with? Am I missing some Savage Rifts material somewhere in TLPG? Where is "Black Mesa" mentioned? Went through some of my Mercenaries books but couldn't find it there either. Just want to brush up on my Black Market knowledge if my PC is supposed to be from that world.

Black Mesa is something I created, although it's based on a real place - - there really is a Black Mesa Bible Camp outside Kenton, OK. I have no idea if they're actually preppers
If you want to read up on the Black Market out west, New West and maybe Lone Stat have the best info.

Yeah, Google Maps is the best. The genesis of the campaign idea started with looking at the black-and-white ley line map in Lone Star, seeing some interesting lines/nexus near the Texas/Oklahoma/New Mexico/Colorado borders, and zooming in on Google Maps to see what was there in the real world. Scrolling around on the satellite images turned up Black Mesa, which looks cool in Street View, and eventually I scrolled across "Black Mesa Bible Camp" just east of Kenton. "That's almost 'Black Market Bible Camp,'" I thought, and the old imagination was off to the races.

Also, while I'm thinking about it, I currently see the group's membership in, or ties to, the COT like this:
Orrin: COT member, possibly CO, as the most senior member (with his lack of Charisma making things interesting, perhaps explaining the COT's lack of success recruiting)
Kim Black: COT member, technical officer
Sir Blurre: COT member, the muscle
Bullet Jones: COT member, better suited to leadership but new to the Legion, untrusted, and far more interesting in playing poker than recruiting
Severianna: Recently rescued/found by Kim and "adopted" into the COT. Remains largely unfamiliar with the Legion and the outside world
Red: Possible COT member and CO - as a Justice Ranger, would be a natural fit, but chafes at being bound to the town/COT duties. Or could be just affiliated/partnered with the COT
Rill: Sympathetic to the Legion and curious about the COT, but not yet a member
Jasco: Familiar with and curious about the COT, but hasn't decided yet if it's worth making contact

Situational, but Sir Blurre is always down with making his melee-ness more potent--Frenzy/Imp. Frenzy is probably the default (Badger); Counterattack/Imp. Counter is nice if his defense is keeping him clear of a guy with a technological weapon (Rattlesnake); Sweep/Imp. Sweep if he's gotten himself surrounded (Mountain Lion).Orrin Truthseeker wrote:BTW, Those of you who have been with us in the COT for a while, give me a heads up what kind of combat edges would benefit your character, as we would be familiar with each other and I would know what kind of animal spirit to channel to help make you more effective.

So I started a thread in the in-game forum if anyone is interested in writing an interlude or vignette before the quarter starts. Just a chance to flesh out Black Mesa and your characters' connections there a bit. I've posted one vignette and have an idea for another l'll probably add later.
If it helps to have a writing prompt, try to mention one thing/person/place in Black Mesa your character likes and one thing/person/place he or she hates. Anyone who contributes can start the quarter with an extra Bennie or draw from the Adventure Deck.

And some notes on Black Mesa I posted in the Hangout:
I'd like to leave it a bit open so you all can add details as needed, but, some basics:
It's a medium-sized settlement, with a mix of hi-tech building materials and wood and adobe, old west style construction.
The Black Market/Bandito Arms compound is at the center of the settlement. The original bunker had been much expanded, including aboveground, MDC warehouses and and emporium
Multiple other merchant outlets, most relatively small, for other outfits such as the Naruni (selling small arms only), Titan (mostly Flying Titan but a couple of larger 'floor' models), Wilks and Northern Gun. Plus the Red River Combine (an organized TW collective from Colorado) and several independent TW artisans.
Half a dozen small, competing churches and seminaries, mostly of the fire-and-brimstone variety
Saloons and flophouses and brothels built in between and on top of everything else.
A dizzying collection of mercenaries, gunslinger, gamblers, scrap-miners, lunatics, shifters and ley line walkers in town looking to get rich, spend their riches or study the nearby mesa and the ley line that runs across it (there's also probably a small ley line depot servicing the various transports that run north and south).

Kim isn't really a "combat edge" character. I think maybe Marksman would be the most likely to benefit her? Unless she ends up in melee when she doesn't want to! LOL Then maybe Block or something?

If Kim's as squishy as most TWs, and is planning on engaging mostly in long-range combat, then Dodge isn't a bad way to go, either. I have a trapping query: if I wanted to trap Rill’s succor power to remove Fear effects, how would that work mechanically (and would it even be allowed)? I’m looking for a way for him to help ease people’s anxieties and calm them down, even in the face of some pretty horrific stuff. That seems like something that would make sense for a Mystic holy man. Suggestions welcome!

Succor already removes a level (or two) of Fatigue and Shaken, which are two of the most common effects of a failed Fear check. At first I was thinking the Mystic-only "Courage" trapping was perfect, but it really only works on powers with a duration; since succor is instant, it wouldn't really have an effect. Affecting "permanent" effects from the Fright table, like phobias or physical marks, is probably too powerful for a trapping.Rill wrote:I have a trapping query: if I wanted to trap Rill’s succor power to remove Fear effects, how would that work mechanically (and would it even be allowed)? Yeah, it sounds like you are looking for something akin to "Greater Healing" but for fright "injuries" (Phobias and marks of fear) vs regular injuries. I would expect that to fall more under a custom "greater succor" power than just a trapping.Rill wrote:I have a trapping query: if I wanted to trap Rill’s succor power to remove Fear effects, how would that work mechanically (and would it even be allowed)? So, I'm not really sure. Anyone else have ideas?
What about a variation on the jolt trapping: on a raise, the recipient gets a roll to shake off the effects of fear (instead of to recover from shaken)? That could be a Spirit roll to recover from an ongoing temporary effect from the Fright table (which is basically just Panicked, I guess), or to temporarily overcome the effect of a phobia (for just that round; not permanent). What do you think?

Some notes about the inside you can incorporate into your posts as needed:
For the purposes of PP regeneration, we'll say it's been about an hour since the brief fight with Rondo at the ranch.
A heavy, alloyed ladder leads down the shaft, which descends about 20 feet down into the darkness before opening into a utility/maintenance tunnel of some kind. The tunnel is about 10 feet wide and almost as tall, with plenty of room to maneuver. There's a fair amount of dust and sand down here, so the shaft has been opened before. There are fresh tracks (boots, human-sized) and some older (which include something larger, like a borg, power armor or big humanoid).
The tunnel dead ends near the access shaft you just descended. It extends about 50 yards the other direction before coming to a T-junction. In one direction, a sign points toward sealed door labeled "Coolant Containment." The other direction, the tunnel slops gradually down. Faded placards on the wall are almost illegible, but you can just make out: "...RE AND LAB X-2B" and "...ER NODES N1-N64."
The walls are lined with electricial conduits. Here and there a damaged line sparks or a hazard light flickers -- there's still juice running through the place. The lights and shadows, combined with the buzz of electricity and a strange, whistling moaning of the wind, is distracting. It's easy to get bogged down in details.
As you advance, if anyone is carrying a Geiger counter (Silver's cybernetic sensory suite would have one) it starts ticking - levels aren't immediately life-threatening, but if it gets much hotter, anyone not in fully-environmental armor will need to make a Vigor check each hour to avoid radiation-based Fatigue (see p. 89 of SWD).

After he eating his steaks and watching the goings on between Ella-Reese and the Market Rep, Silver would be upto speaking to the Market Traders about salvage rates and trade ins.
I am sure that Jack is better at the negotiations and such, but Silver is anxious to get refreshed and serviced and that means Cyber Upgrades.

I apologize for the extended absence, the holidays have been more draining than I anticipated. I should be back in the saddle again, now. (pun intended)

Hey all, the end of the quarter aproacheth!
I'll get a GM rating post up soon, but wanted to let you know where you stand on posts:
Blurre, Silver, Rill, Duncan, Kim and Jack are all at 20+ posts, so maximum reward (2 XP, 3 EP + bonus Benny next quarter). Orrin is at 19, so 1 post away from max. Sev is at 14, 1 away from the next to top tier (so 2 XP, 2 EP).
You whupped ass, so the maximum team success reward (3 XP) is headed your way, plus 1 XP for the interlude when you first entered the Fade.
Who wants to squeeze in one more Interlude to grab that final, precious XP? If interested, go ahead and have your character tell a story while Orrin, Rill and Kim work on the barrier. Theme: Spin a tale about another time you won/escaped/survived a battle against impossible odds.
If you'd like an additional prompt, roll 1d4:
1) Clubs—Tragedy: Describe a tale of tragedy or misfortune from your hero’s past, featuring one of his Hindrances if possible. If the teller has a dark secret of some kind, hint strongly at it, drop clues, or otherwise give the rest of the group a glimpse into your hero’s dark side during your narrative.
2) Spades—Victory: Tell the group about a great victory or personal triumph in your adventurer’s past. How did it affect him afterward? Was there a reward?
3) Hearts—Love: Speak fondly of the character’s greatest love—lost, found, or waiting on him back home. What is her name? Where does she live? Why is the traveler not with her now?
4) Diamonds—Desire: Tell a tale about something your hero wants (or already has). It might be a material possession, recognition, a political goal, or even a trip he wishes to take to some amazing destination.

Re: OOC Chat
Okay, gonna toss out a little discussion of the Mass Battle rules here:
Despite the larger than normal numbers, I was going to use the Mass Battle rules mostly as written, which would lead to the PCs rolling Kn: Battle + a lot of bonuses, and the Bad Guys rolling + a lot of bonuses. Whoever got highest would kill one token of the opposing force, +1 additional token for every raise.
That will take forever, and doesn't capture the danger of a Pyrrhic victory resulting from casualties on both sides.
So, I'm gonna tweak it a bit.
First step, I'll compare the bonuses each side gets from Resources (tokens, allies, training, etc.) and Tactics (the 1d6+2 you guys got from Jasco and the sand sharks, vs. the 1d6 they got for the thing they're gonna do ...). For the first round of the battle, that works out to 52 for the Marron side (47 Resources + 5 Tactics) vs. 47 for the Blue Hand (45 Resources + 2 Tactics). So, the PCs are up by 5, so they get a +5 bonus to their roll.
Next, each side rolls Kn: Tactics (Blurre for Marron, Ronin for the raiders) and adds the bonus from above (+5 for you, nothing for them) and the bonus from any successful Player Character/Wild Card contributions (+9 for you, +6 for them, based on some rolls I made). For every success and raise each side gets, it inflicts 1 token of casualties on the opposing side.
So, in this case, your side ends up with 8 (Blurre's roll) + 5 (Resource/Tactics superiority) + 9 (PC contributions) = 22, which means you inflict 5 casualties, wiping out half their force.
Ronin ended up with a 15 on her Kn: Battle roll (including Extra Effort), + 6 for Wild Card actions, for a 21, inflicting 5 tokens of casualties on your side. Due to medical/triage preparations, you ignore 3 of those, and have a 50/50 chance of ignoring another.
So, for Blurre's post: You managed to kill half the attackers. They wounded many of yours, but you managed to keep most in the fight. Roll to see if you save a fourth token, then decide who dies (the token of sand-sharks makes sense for one, since they're outside the walls, plus you may need to choose one more, of either Simvan or Marronites). After that, make a Morale roll (using Spirit d6, as well as a Wild Die) as normal under the Mass Battle rules. The Marron side gets the fortification and "can't retreat" bonuses, which should more than offset the penalty from casualties this round.
I'll include narrative for the Blue Hand tactics, their rolls and morale check in the next post.

For the write in of Seswaricks signature item instead of the usual "find it in the loot" I was thinking Kim makes it for him if you're game for that Matthew.
Active Effects:
- Time Twister belt:(when activated) -2 to ranged attacks against wearer, +2 to wearers parry, 4x pace
Stormheart: +4 to armor of Electric Aura power, +2 die type to vigor, and gain Dodge edge when active. Cost 2 ISP/hr
Seswarick
Re: OOC Chat
Sure, that works for me. What is the item again? Guess it doesn't really matter LOL We'd handwave the rolls anyway.Seswarick wrote:For the write in of Seswaricks signature item instead of the usual "find it in the loot" I was thinking Kim makes it for him if you're game for that Matthew.

The Stormheart, a harness made using crystals from Tesla valley that'll improve the protection of Seswaricks aura. I need to alter it and have it reapproved to use the gear harness as it's base tho.

Re: OOC Chat
Sounds good. Kim can totally do that after the battle, if you like. As a sig item, it doesn't require her to make any rolls (though technically I don't think she's high enough rank to make a sig item LOL But we can call it a stroke of genius).

Re: OOC Chat
Hey all,
With the end of the quarter a week away, here's where everyone stands in terms of post count:
Blurre: 12 posts = 1.2 post rate = 1 XP, 1 EP
Orrin: 13 posts = 1.3 post rate = 1 XP, 1 EP
Rill: 10 posts = 1.0 post rate = 0 XP, 0 EP
Kim: 13 posts = 1.3 post rate = 1 XP, 1 EP
Silverclaws: 18 posts = 1.8 post rate = 2 XP, 2 EP
Jack: 17 posts = 1.7 post rate = 2 XP, 2 EP
Jasco: 6 posts = 0.6 post rate = 0 XP, 0 EP
Seswarick = 3 posts = 0.3 post rate = 0 XP, EP
In addition to those individual awards, you could have earned XP for Interludes (which you should have already added in) and you'll get a group award = 3 XP for great success, plus a bonus 1 XP for completing the defense of Marron, which has been the focus of this arc of the campaign.
(Jasco and Seswarick, since you came in late you'll get a prorated award of 2 XP).
I apologize for the slower pace this quarter -- I feel like once a week GM posts isn't giving you quite as many opportunities for player posts, so going forward I'll try to add more opportunities for Interludes and RP scenes. In the meantime, feel free to post away in the VIsions of Marron thread and the main thread if you want to boost your count before the week is over.

2 thoughts:
1. Where can I find the breakdown on XP and EP rewards so I can pick a target to aim for?
2. The 32 SET makes really good use of an "open role play area" I think is fun and helps fill in time when we may end up waiting on one or two people to post. Maybe we could start something up here?

Hi Sev, I'm new to the group. You and Duncan went for help from the Lyn-Srial was the exit Tribe wrote. I used that in my backstory having you two getting hurt but ya ended up finding a few of them and I was sent to help Marron.

Re: OOC Chat
Also, here's what I'm thinking as a replacement/nerf for the Zapper's EMP ability. This is basically the Malfunction power from SPC2 with the Limitation: Electronic Devices Only.
EMP: Using a controlled burst of electro-magnetic energy a Zapper can attempt to shut down technological devices and systems. As an action, she can target an electronic device or vehicle within her Spirit range in inches and make a Psionics roll, minus the modifiers below. If successful, the device (or in the case of large or complex devices, a single subsystem) malfunctions in some way; with a Raise, the device or system suffers a random Technical Difficulty.
Simple to moderately complex devices just stop working and must be restarted or repaired (typically an action) to be used again. Complex devices lose a random subsystem, unless a specific subsystem is targeted (at an additional -2 penalty to the Psionics roll).
Rolls against simple items like a hand-held radio or security camera are made at no penalty. Moderately complex devices, including laser rifles and portable computers, impose a -2 modifier; Complex or alien technology and shielded military hardware (including power armor, robot vehicles and cybernetics), impose a -4 penalty. Attempts to affect androids, 'Borgs and other sentient machines require an opposed roll at -4 against the target's Smarts. Techno-wizard devices, magical items and machines that are purely mechanical are unaffected.

Hello all & Tribe. I keep lurking around and looking up the forums to see how things are going. I'm trying to simplify my life is some ways to get some more free time. But then my daughters are also starting up softball season soon, and as I am a coach, that means less time to do other things. I'd like to come back at some point. Just has to work and so that when I make the commitment, I can keep it to be fair to you all too.
Happy Holidays, and best wishes to you all!

Re: OOC Chat
Yay Kim!
I'm the communications director for the local Softball league, run the Facebook, twitter and Insta account, and the website webmaster. The Spring season doesn't start till Feb, but I am trying to be the 12u select coach, basically the kids that will be on the Summer All Star team. Between now and then I'm trying to drive up social media to get some additional registrations for the upcoming season, and build the follower base. Then come season time; 2 practices a week for the select team, a practice a week for my daughters regular Rec team, and then my 8yr old is looking like she wants to play, so another 8u practice a week. Plus my 12 yr old is a pitcher and we have weekly lessons with a pitching coach. Regular season games Saturdays, Select game Sundays. And somehow need to find time for the full time job and the 2 side jobs I have. Although, I am trying to sell one side job, and then get out of the second one soon after that.
3 weeks ago I went to the USA Softball So Cal Umpire training day, and got certified to Umpire youth softball games. I'm in deep here, to deep. I spend a lot of time watching videos and reading about Kinetic chain of events, Sequencing and timing of the throwing, hitting and pitching mechanics. The differences between the linear and rotational movements of throwing, hitting and pitching. Thinking of different drills, warm ups and exercises to strengthen and stretch their core for rotational work and everything else.
Anyway, I could go on. Enough about me. Happy Holidays to you all, and wish you all the best. Keep up the great game, and you guys rock!
Re: OOC Chat
Oh, wow. Sounds complicated.
But then I guess southern California you can be outside all year round, so it makes a bit more sense starting the season that early.
