Scout Forearm Integrated Weapon System (Signature Item)

Post by Hardin »

This is for Steelcreek, the Coalition Psi-Stalker of the Fighting Joes. I built this using the super tech rules (no magic allowed in a CS unit, obviously).

Scout Forearm Integrated Weapon System
  • Base Item: Vibro-Blade Vambraces
  • Strength + 1d8 Mega Damage, AP 4
  • Parry +1
  • Requires Agility d8, must be worn as a pair
  • As augmented, 9 pounds (4.5 pounds per vambrace)
Augmentations
  • Integrated NG-57 Ion Blasters (2 Major)
    • 12/24/48; 1-3d6+1 damage; ROF 1; 10 shots; 5 pounds each
  • Reduce weight by half (Minor)
  • Add silver trapping to blades (Minor)
  • Add Tricky Fighter Edge (Agility) (Major)
The Special Forces don't always have all the fun!

This system, procured for Steelcreek by his fellow Ranger and self-appointed trainer Newcastle, represents the bleeding edge of Coalition CQB technology. Designed for finesse instead of brute strength, the Scout FIWS is a high-powered, lightweight take on the classic Forearm Integrated Weapon System. The built-in NG-57s pack enough punch to allow its wearers to hang with physically superior foes, and advanced materials and electronic shock-absorbers keep the entire system light and responsive. The blades are plated with silver so as to be effective against a wide a variety of enemies, and the system is perfectly balanced, making it ideal for tricks, feints, and other finesse maneuvers. The Scout FIWS is very popular with the handful of Special Forces and Rangers who have gotten to field test it, and this set became available when its previous user found himself touring the inside of a particularly nasty critter's gullet. A supply officer named Gilette pulled some strings to get ahold of it and offered it to Newcastle in the hopes of scoring himself a date, and it was too late for him to retract the offer once he realized she didn't want it for herself but knew someone else who would be "perfect for it."

Looks good
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

The mechanics are sound.

I'd like to see more flavour/fluff text. This is a signature weapon after all, it should have a bit of a story.

Fair point. Ok, the fluff has been updated (fluffdated?) for your reading pleasure!

VV has this been approved?

I assume Pursuit's character is running around with this now?

No, because his GM has asked him to hold off. The tinkerer rules will do this without the need for EP.
