Welcome to Mercy Six


Campaign Rules
  • Number of Players: Six, I would like to run a game with a smaller group to be able to focus on what makes them tick.
  • Campaign Power Level: Big Damn Heroes (+2 HJ, x2 starting wealth, +1 additional advance(so with pbp +1 advance that is +2)). The idea of the general game can perhaps be gleaned from the intro text. In many ways it is a true mission of mercy. Characters will need a bit of a bump, but not too much that horror elements become silly.
  • I’ll try for the once a week posting, but in reality it might more of a one post every two weeks.
  • Game starts arround the time PEG locks in the Atlantis Book.
  • Signature Gear and Patron Gear are totally fine. You will need it.
I would like to offer the seats to the game to the players in field team six(I cut the game and pulled back when I moved, started a new job, and the pandemic started). Life has calmed down and I would love to invite you all back to the virtual table. You do not need to play your FTS character (you are more than welcome to if you like). If you kindly decline, please post so and I’ll make the seat available for a new player.

I'd love to return my SWD Undead Slayer from the 77th to duty. But if everyone wants to reroll FTS I'd go along with that happily.

It does not need to be field team six characters. I just wanted to give FTS players first dibs. We can bring in Antipas as long as we can do it and adhere to the campaign rules.

Totally cool with "starting from scratch", it'll be great running either one of them in a Penderverse game again.

I would love to play!
I want to take a look at the Atlantis rules before I decide who to play. If we do FTS, I would like a chance to reboot Lulu. I built her too focused and thus felt like I was playing a one trick pony. I honestly don't feel like I played Cass enough to really get to know her back in the 77th. It would be nice to create and play her again now that I actually feel like I know what I'm doing.

There will be a few other Atlantean IFs like nomad and Stone/gem master in the book too.

I am totally up for this and looking forward to it. I love big dang heroes, and think this will be great.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
    2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

    3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

    4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

    6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

    9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

    11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

    12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

Hi Freemage glad to have you. You would need to roll Ophelia Back, but the nice thing is you get to make her with the big damn heroes rules. So it’s not really That far back.
-Plus who knows what kind of fun edges are in the Atlantis book.

You are more than welcome to play another character as well. Although I am excited to possibly have at least one character from field team six as I have something special planned for them story wise once this starts.

I have no issues with playing Jane. I would need to re-vamp her likely.

Luke may have replicated himself or @Cassiopeia and Luke had a child.

@Pender Lumkiss So in remaking Antipas' sig item what are my options for sourcebooks to draw a base item from. I plan to remake the one I had in as much as possible. Obviously using the SPC is out. The base item was the exoskeleton from the old SPC, probably also out.

@Imperator I think SWADE and all SWADE Rifts would be just fine. Is there a different source book you are looking at?

@Sgt 86Delta You are more than welcome to play either character as long as you can use the campaign guidelines to do it. Or another character is totally fine as well. No one is under a compulsion to play a character from Field Team Six or the 77th other than their own(for the child idea please check with @Cassiopeia’s player first).

I like the idea playing Cass and Luke again, but I would approve a LuCa child character too. :D

I'm not sure how far past the end of the 77th we are, my guess is a year, two at most. Last mention of them in Penderverse cannon they were heading to Antarctica with Libertas and some others? So said kid would be pretty young and possibly in whatever situation baby Angel is in. Last I knew she was probably in whatever the CR has for daycare (he says, regretfully reminding the GM of a nasty hook) That said there's always the path I took with Aggy or something similar. Or I'm uninformed as to timeframe in the setting.

  • 2D6 EFFECT
    2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

    3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

    4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

    12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

I plan on doing a Sea Inquisitor (Regent) or a Mega Juicer (Chow Time).

Was thinking about bringing back 42, but I think he belongs with his friends in the Six.

I have already had to cut of experience from so many characters after they have gained advances and taken them away it begins bugging me. I do not think I want to do it again, so new character would be better.

But yes, the innocent enthusiasm is one that makes me want to try him again. We have time, Pender said he wanted to wait for the final draft of Atlantis, so we know we have at least five or six weeks based on their editing cycles. I am sure my mind will go in a dozen directions.

Yeah I can see how that'd disappoint, I'm only losing two advances and the extra HJ rolls should help make up for that. Trying to reboot someone like Dorian or Fiona would be rough, and I actually enjoy rerunning new iterations of favorite characters.

Yes, I found the perfect character art and idea for finalizing what I would like to play.

Corbal,
Raised an as experiment and pushed beyond the limits normal to his kind. Corbal psionic powers where destroyed when he was subjected to the Mega-Juicer treatment that turned him into an unstoppable rage machine.
Corbal is a soldier's soldier. He has taken his training to heart and with a passion few have achieved, and being saved from slavery by the Legion he now serves with a fanaticism few would consider reasonable. Corbal follows orders to the letter, doing whatever he can to best serve the legion's needs even above his own. Unfortunately if not told to hold back has a tendency to eliminate prisoners rather than risk a Private Ryan.

  • 2D6 EFFECT
    2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

    3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

    4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

    6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

    9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

    11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

    12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

So if someone from Clan Aerihman asked for help or called upon Antipas to do some service Antipas would not feel compelled to do so correct?

I'm not planning on remaking Cass as a TW because personally I don't feel comfortable playing that framework effectively. I'm looking at the Atlanteans Nomad, but even that isn't really jumping off the page at me.

Are there any glaring holes in our party balance that people can see so far? I'm open to suggestions.

@Cassiopeia I get what you are saying about the nomad. After reviewing the OCC in palladium rifts the OCC does not really have much in the way of special OCC abilities. Basically the Atlantan nomad is either a dementional vagabond or dimensional wilderness scout. Granted they start with a few tatoos, which is translated in SWADE but other than that not too much else.

I could see something like: Atlantan Nomad
Choose either wilderness scout or vagabond
Race: must choose True Atlantan
Coming of Age: The Atlantean is in the formative years of this wandering journey through dimensions. Like many that have traveled the same path they are driven to keep wandering(minor). They are also find themselves often on the wrong-side of the cruel mistress fate and not quite as far along on the path of a hero. -1 HJ roll and -1 Benny per session.
Magical Tattoos: 3 tatoos (one must be the eye of knowledge)
Dimensional Traveler: They have a knack when it comes to understanding dimensions. Gain Dimension Sense edge.

I am set as far as campaign power level. Factored. Only thing I have not done is design a Sig Item. Thinking about what it could be…don’t desire a weapon. Thinking of what else I could do…

Aside from maybe some gear tweaks I'm calling him done. Not 100% I want the dragon bane but I don't see him using anything else, but I want to use my tat weapons because they're cool now, but i's nice to have a weapon it doesn't take an action to draw...

    2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

    3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

    4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

    6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

    9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

I am also trying to make a golem type race for Forty Two so I can remake him as a MARS.
It would be a drop in overall power, but allow it to keep its skill set and earned xp.
I think forgoing the Construct mod and just using does not eat, sleep or breath may give a close enough effect.

I am looking at a rebuild of Luke.

Considering Rulian or a re-trapped Kittani. Luke has no love for the Splugoth.

Although if I can't get the feel right, I might put a character together as a True Atlantean Stone Master or Tattoo Warrior.

@Sgt 86Delta So on rereading the little there is on the In'Valian pre curse they were stronger and a little larger than humans. Their Intellect score in PR terms is above human by a roughly a die type SR wise. Also they did have psychics, just all extant ones went insane or died when momma thing screamed so Luke being a latent isn't really that odd.

Yeah, I figured but he'd still have techy skills that were basic education for In'Valians was my thinking.

Please, at least a loin cloth, we already have two half nekid dudes on the team. Plus Mike, who we all know hates shirts.

I have a Skyboating TW in my Mercy Six stable, now. If we need the magic mojo, I can pull him over. It sounds like Sgt has the tech side covered, though, so now I'm thinking Barnaby the TW Skyboat Captain would be redundant even if we did need the magic mojo :(.

Ok, so I'm pulling a Rob on us, @Pender Lumkiss.

My primary choice for the game is Tasura the Lemurian Stone Master. I'm excited enough about him that I'm changing out Raven's signature item for Tasura's Gemcaster :D!

If that doesn't end up working out for you or the team for whatever reason I have other options. I could swap back to Raven the Nega-Psychic Assassin or I could pick up Barnaby the Techno-Wizard Skyboat Captain.

Pulling a Rob is complaining about random stuff in character creation. I think making a dozen character concepts before a game is just par for the course for all gamers with A.D.D..
  • 2D6 EFFECT
    2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

    3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

    4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

    6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

    9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

    11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

    12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

Yep, That is a Mike.
Our own GM here liked to change characters. I think that is why he is such a great sport if his characters get killed and never gets mad at the GMs.

But once I start a character, I want to finish their story and hate it when they die before I am satiated.

I am taking the opportunity to post here as Luke does not have access to the Mercy Six forum, yet.

It had been a while since the 77th had ventured south. Though he had spent his time with @Cassiopeia out of missions, he had grown a tad bit restless and then found that he needed Xander again as his body began degrading again. He was glad he had left Cass before he needed to re-suit, he would really hate to try and hold her with the suit on.

Xander was a scientific miracle. 'He' was a suit of power armor but completely organic. Truely a bio-mechanical wonder, that Luke had yet to unravel.

Luke had not seen @Antipas in months. Antipas had particiapted unknowlingly in an Earthling type tradition known as a walk-about. Seems that Pas wandered wherever without purpose and direction. If Luke had needed to, he could have located his friend and partner in a heart beat.

On a particular non-descript morning, a signal beacon was activated several hundred miles from Luke's current research. This signal beacon was unique as it was designed to detect non-earth anomolies, specifically extra terrestial life forms utilizing the nearby nexus. Realizing the signal and before Xander could comment, Luke packed up his toolset, collected his notes, and sealed away his research. [A.R.C.H.I.E. 3 would need to wait.]

Xander spoke to Luke, telepathically. "Luke, the fastet way to travel to that Nexus is a Nexus due south of us 20 Kilometers."

Luke acknowledged Xander, "Then we are off. Time to save Earth once more."

Exiting the Nexus, Luke surveyed the area round about.

The only recent disturbances to the ground were two sets of foot prints and a hurried trail that led off into the distance.

Luke breathed a sigh of relief and Xander chimed in, "It appears that Antipas and Cass are traveling together to ..."

"... Castle Refuge. Luke finished the sentence. It is the way Luke and Xander were. And they were off before Luke had finished the sentence.

Following the cousins to Refuge, "{b]I wonder what kind of trouble they are getting themselves into now?[/b]"

Xander chuckled, "Only the Three Galaxies would know. We better get there to save their ass."

Xander over the centuries they had been together had developed a personality and a sense of humor. Luke had often toyed with the idea of loading Xander into a 3D imaging software to see what he actually looked like. Everyone else saw just the eco/power suit. To Luke Xander was a disembodied living entity.

As the road they were following crested a break in the mountains to the east of Refuge, Luke stopped and drew in a sharp breath. Refuge was a mess. Xander piped up, "I hope that Antipas and Cass had nothing to do with this."

Luke replied, "If it was, there would be nothing we could do to help them out."
