Fire in the Night

Post by Technospawn »

Red Larch
Shack
8 Mirtul 1370/ Late Evening
Brisk

@Felicity Clover opened the door and stepped into the night air. The glow from the burning building was bright in the dark night. She could not see which building was burning from where she stood. The alarm was still ringing and she could hear several people running and shouting.

As the bladesman died and the sounds of combat ended the sound of the alarm bell and several people running and scream could be heard outside. The orange glow of fire was unmistakable through the door. People could be seen running past the open doorway with buckets of water.

@Felicity Clover and @Roland rushed over to the shack were the prisoners and their companions were. Seeing @Tyrien e'Adrianne wounds, Fliss begins prayer and soon Tyrien's wounds knit back together and the bleeding stops.

Looking around the room they can see one of the guards is incapacitated, the little half-orcs are missing, and the other guards are just waking up slowly and very groggily.

This scene is a dramatic task. You need 3 successes to accomplish each of the following task. You may roll for both tasks but will suffer a -2 MAP. You may roll any skill that you think is appropriate to scene. If you use a power please roll 3d6 for power points used.
  • Stop the town from burning down
  • Save the guard's life

Crit Fail
Faith 1d10, Wild 1d6: [1]+[1] = 2
Power Points 3d6: [6, 4, 5] = 15
Update: She apparently loses only 1 power point because AB characters are hopelessly broken. She is fatigued, though, so there's that.
Nit sees the flames from the tanner's shop. Her business in town is done and she is eager to get back to the wild... but animals and people will die if someone doesn't do something.

She lets out a high-pitched whistle, warning Shine to stay away; the last place he needs to be is in the mist of a panicked herd of city humans. They were terrified of the big cat in the best of times; there was no predicting how they would act in a stampede.

She moves quickly but calmly towards the fire, picking up some of the stray human cubs she encounters along the way and placing them near spots she thinks their parents will find them. There is a well near the center of town, which seems like a good enough place. Animals in the forest sometimes head to water when fire comes. Maybe these city people would do that, too.

She reaches the fire quickly enough and calls on her bond with Life, weaving her hands into a quick spell and summoning water. She isn't exactly sure where the water comes from; sometimes it arrives cold and clear, and sometimes not. Once, it arrived tasting of salt. Regardless, Nit reaches out, releases some of her awakeness, and trades it for water.

Maybe she's distracted, or maybe she reaches too deep, but the water explodes in a geyser, knocking over a cart and sending it through a door.

"No!" she yells, struggling to get the outpour under control.

She... does not get it under control. Instead, she wrecks even more of the town and actively gets in the way of efforts to fight the fire.

”Sorry!”

Tyrien rolled her shoulders, just a bit to get comfortable with the binding's placement. "Gratitude, Fliss. I am appreciative for the aid. It feels much better now."

The half-elven archer was unable to really do much for the disabled guard, leaving the healer to do what she could to help instead. She left the jailhouse to see what was going on outside.

She looked out into the village, trying to determine where best she could lend her services. Now that her wound was not troubling her, she could lend a hand in carrying buckets of water to help douse fires.

She hazard a guess that if she was seen to actively trying to help save the town, then people wouldn't bother her with questions. Though she was less than amused with the recent turn of events.

Roland looks at the burning building split in his mind over if he should help the injured or put out the fire, but as the other start working on the fire, he decides he can do more good by trying to help heal. If only he had skills of some sort related to healing.

Then doing what he does best Roland starts talking, working with the panicked people getting them to calm down and move over towards Flic where they can be healed. Those that ae not injured he begins convincing to help with the fires.

As @Felicity Clover and @Roland finished healing the injured guard the stand back up and stretch a little. Then they look around to see that their friends are fighting a losing battle with the fire. It is spreading fast and has engulfed another 3 buildings. In fact the very building they are standing in is getting very hot and beginning to smolder.

You still need 2 more success to put the fire out.

As the last of the fire died down the towns people began to take stock of what happened. There were several people wounded and even a few dead. The fire had completely consumed 5 buildings include the guard barracks. Now that the fire was out and the excitement was wearing off the night was becoming very bitterly cold. Everything was silent for a moment then the wailing started as loved ones found the bodies. Near the barracks a woman was on her knees in the mud weeping openly over the half burned body of a guardsman. two buildings over a couple screamed in despair over a form that was too small to be an adult. For some the disaster will never end.

It is late, nearing midnight and all of you are tired from the long day and constant action. What do you do next? Do you help? Do you return to the inn and get some much need sleep?

Nit looks around nervously and starts to shrink towards the well. Shine, thank the stones, is nowhere to be seen. At least one of them had the sense to avoid this place.
Someone Say Hi to Nit Please
She won't initiate contact with anyone, because cities and cityfolk freak her out. She was just here to trade some pelts and then stuff got crazy. If someone engages with her, she'll respond and might stay to help out some more. If no one says anything to her, she'll head back to the woods and to her panther companion and spend the night outside where she's comfortable. She'd come back in the morning to scout out how things are going, though.

Felicity took a breath. She wiped a hand across her face stained with soot, leaving a smear of blood. She was tired from helping people, but there were still more that needed her. It was going to be a long night.

Fliss saw a dark haired woman (Nit) in warm hides standing around. She walked over to her. “Are you hurt?” she asked. “If not, could help me out? We need to get the injured into someplace warm. That barn should do. And I am going to need more bandages and fresh, clean water. Also if you can find any honey would be great to put on the burns.”

Roland nods as @Felicity Clover lists out what she will be needing. "Sure thing, we can get people running most of that, and I can provide plenty of clean water. But then I think some rest could do us all some good. Would be no fun to make mistakes while working on these poor townsfolk." He says stifling a yawn at the end.

Feeling tired and with limbs aching after racing back and forth with buckets of water, Llolfaen dropped the last empty bucket she'd been carrying and took a moment to catch her breath. The last of the fires appeared to be smouldering, if not out completely, and thus the threat to the village was over. However, it looked like the half orcs probably got away amidst all the chaos leaving that trial to go cold for the time being.

Leaving others to handle the aftermath of the fires, Llolfaen opted to head for the inn and catch some sleep.

"Oh! Um. Sure." Nit is shocked out of her solitude by the stranger. Warm. Right. I can do that. She does what she can to help carry the injured to the barn, being careful not to harm them even more as she does.

"Honey. For burns? I think I might know where to find something."

She disappears into the night, calling for Shine, and they head off in search of something that can be used to treat burns. She returns an hour or so later with an absolutely massive black panther in tow and

Felicity, now in the barn treating the injured, smiled when Nit returned with the honeycomb. “That will work fine. If you could extract it.” She handed over a bowl. From another pot, she poured some honey into her hand and spread it over the burn on a little girl’s arm, then wrapped it in clean bandages. “Then rest up. The others are over at the inn,” Fliss said, giving a yawn and returning to work.

Unable to really help much with healing, Tyrien stood by and observed what Fliss was doing. She offered a hand as needed when moving folk to the barn, but that was about all she could really do to help.

Afterwards, when things were winding down, she commented, “What did the rest of you learn before the fire?”

“The interrogation of the orcs did not go well and little was learned before those others showed up to rescue and silence them.”

Looking over from behind the bar where Roland had acquired a drink as he tossed some coin where the bottle was he nods confirming what Felicity said. "Those people are evil. The trapped and poisoned their own secret tunnel. Imagine if children had gotten in there."

Taking a drink and offering the bottle to the others he says. "So, from what I can see the orcs around here have decided the humans need to go, and they have enlisted the aid of some others for making sure it happens.

"I would think we want those others found out and exposed."
