EVERYTHING'S WORKING OUT

Before they all load up into Bop, Egil sees clear signs. They are the droppings of a gryphon on the ground! Approaching closer he detects the pungent scent of the magical excrement. That combined with what could possible be a large clawed footprint damn near proves that Tiberius left on a magical beast. Or, maybe, it could be, that Egil is hungry and crazy.

Chevy is indeed sullen, but with everyone loaded and on the move, there is slightly more excitement for the quickflex. Slightly because progress is slow, and lacking any sort of incident. The driving, however, was quite technical. Like most "roads", this one is basically track somewhat more passable than the surrounding forest. Even with rugged off-road capabilities, it takes the remaining part of the day and into the night to travel the 30 or so odd miles to Kingsdale.

5% Goblin races (Goblins and Orcs)
20% Other races (includes mutant animals, Ogres, Dragons, exotic D-Bees, supernatural creatures, elementals, etc.)
They arrive to a town asleep, but wary. A few windows are shuttered as Bop rolls down a well ordered street. Even somewhat removed from the Tolkeen war, Kingsdale isn't the wild an freewheeling thorn in the Coalition's backyard anymore. There's a empty lot across the street from a genuinely disreputable nice place. It has a frontier vibe to it, saloon, "breakfast room", gambling hall, and hotel all in one. So naturally its lights are on and the welcoming sounds of an amateur band filter out into the street whenever a lonely patron heads for home.

For the sharp eyed, there is activity on the street. Ducking around corners or sneaking into an alley, the town isn't quite as dead as it seems. But no one's little tingly feeling goes off.

Egil was nearly trembling with excitement as the ‘Bop pulled into Kingsdale. The past few days he had relied on Whisper and Architect as a source of nourishment. It was fine and he had no complaints, but it wasn’t the same as hunting for your next meal and the psi-stalker’s feral nature was screaming to roam the virtual smorgasbord of Kingsdale.

Before the ‘Bop stopped, he bailed out of the hatch, “Be back soon, don’t worry I’ll find ya!”, and then bounded off soon disappearing into an alley.

Even psychically attuning his mind to the city streets, luck wasn’t on his side that night, however. It was still too early for the dregs to stumble out of the bars and too late for the predators preying on the honest working folk. Those were Egil’s favorite as it always gave him a thrill when the unsuspecting hunters became the hunted.

He figured he would see if he could make a connection to see if they could sell off the Coalition Gear. Should be easy enough in a city this big and he knew some names from back when he was in the ‘Burbs of those who dealt in Kingsdale. A few jokes here and a fake mental breakdown there all the while listening to the undercurrent of the seedy establishments he entered finally got him a line on the Black Market. Seems their major place of operation was Dregtown outside the city proper.

Nobody expects the crazy guy...works every time

Dregtown was bad, really bad, but Egil was there for business and kept to himself. The people here were living hand to mouth and the place stunk of the supernatural.

Stay frosty, old boy

Egil finally found what he was looking for, a burnt out building, one of the few actual structures in Dregtown with a flickering neon sign of a girl sitting in an oversized martini glass. Outside a skinny kid, not much more than a teenager was puking his guts out and as the psi-stalker approached, fell into a seizure.
Egil strolled up to the kid and looked down on him critically.

“Bad dose, eh? You don’t look so good.”

The kid attempted a snarl that turned into a gurgle and a spew of blood.

“Well that doesn’t look good. At least you could have done me a favor and been at least minorly psychic. Just a taste might have put me on my ass by the looks of what you are on. Crash? Mega? Both!? Yeah, maybe it’s good you ain’t psychic. Still that’s a mighty nice coat you have and it looks like it fits me.”

A few minutes later in a brand new black leather duster and rolling a coin over his knuckles, Egil was in front of a pocked faced man flanked by real Juicers.

“Coalition weapons?”

“Si”

“Including Special Forces armor?”

“Hai”

“Look, if we are going to continue to do business, you need to speak American. Got it?”

“Da..I mean Yeah”

“I’ll cut you a deal and give you 25% because you are giving me an exclusive on shit that hasn’t hit the streets yet. As long as you are telling the truth….”

“Ok”

“I’m paying for full load outs on the weapons so any e-clips that need to be charged or ammo re-loaded, same as you buy from Wilks or Northern Gun. Anything less and I deduct the cost.”

“Got it.”

“Alright, you bring me the goods and I pay you the creds. Anything else?”

“Yeah, I want to keep a set of the Spec Ops armor for myself, ‘cept I’m partial to some of the mods on this suit. You think you can transfer the targeting system and exo-skeleton over? I’ll pay for it of course.”

“We’ll see what we can do.”

Egil smiled and made his way back to the rest of the Nameless.
Calculations and Stuff
So since I am a spreadsheet nerd, I calculated the salvage price of 25% of all the CS haul. I based it on the TLPG saying that all weapons come with two full e-clips or load outs in their price and subtracted what it would take to provide that at full cost.

We had plenty of e-clips and even paying to recharge them netted us quite a bit.

My total came to 194,212.5 credits and that does not include the CA-7 suits as they don’t have a cost because they are usually unavailable.

Justin, you can do with this what you wish. Like I said, I am a math geek so I like doing this stuff. If you are cool with it, would it be possible for Egil to keep a CA-7 suit and pay to transfer his armor table mods to it? Just the targeting package and exo-skeleton.

Whisper strolled along, her helmet tucked under her arm, enjoying the feel of moonlight on her face. It was nice not to need goggles of smoked quartz to keep from being blinded. Here the air felt alive around her, full of shadows waiting to be shaped and given purpose.

"Well," she said to the others. "I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to food that doesn't come out of a little baggie. And who knows, maybe someone's heard something useful in there."

The silhouette flashed a grin, then ducked into the saloon. She winced slightly at the transition from comfortably dark to decently-well lit, but a little blinking as she went to the bar cleared the worst of it up.

"My good man, I'd like a room, and a drink and something hot and fresh to eat. Not necessarily in that order."

She delivered the needed credits as she spoke, then glanced around the saloon, taking the measure of the place.

"It's a pleasant enough little town you have here," Whisper went on to the bartender. "Anything interesting going on?"

Architect ain't exactly sure what Nomel plans to do with the Glitterboy, so he hangs back between Kingsdale and the Glitterboy until Nomel decides.

He watches Whisper and Egil head into Kingsdale and he listens to the sounds of a quieter night. It will be nice to flush out the truth, if these people have any.

Looking into the dark sky, Architect's thoughts return, Symon's demon held my father's sword, but the demon was dead before I could question him. Someone has to know how to locate a demon's home.

Nomel considers, then tells Architect he'd prefer to go into town. Glitterboys are usually welcome outside of CS-controlled territory (and even within it, if the authorities aren't watching).

Naturally, he'll have to 'park' the GB unit outside the inn, but that isn't a big deal; they aren't easy to get started if you're not a trained pilot, and the hell that rains down on would-be thieves keeps them pretty safe. He does make sure to 'lock' the oversized Nymbu Staff in Gabrielle's grip, so as to ensure it can't walk off, then has the GB lock itself up again (he can, after all, phase directly into the pilot's bay when needed, without going through the difficulty of having the machine open up).

As soon as he's out of the suit, of course, he also dons his back-up Huntsman and the overcoat; there's affable, and then there's stupid. He walks in behind Silhouette, and nods to the bartender after she pays for her lodging. "The same, please."

Chevy powers down the Bop and turns to the remaining passengers. "I'll head in for some grub, but then I'm back here for the night. Someone needs to keep an eye on our stuff, from the looks of this town."

And tomorrow, barring any interruptions, he thinks, I'll work on finding some buyers for the salvage. There's gotta be some good Black Market contacts in a dump like this.

He doffs his helmet, but leaves the armor on. He also leaves his rifle on the rack, but makes sure his sidearm is where it belongs: on his hip.

He makes a more sedate entrance into the establishment. Calculating eyes belying his youthful face, he takes a measure of the place, then finds a table as close to a corner as he can. Once ensconced, he waves to what looks like a barmaid. "Bring me some of whatever you have for food and drink."

Chevy stares levelly at the ebon-skinned woman for a few seconds, then wordlessly stands and walks over to drop down on an empty seat near them, facing the door.

He stays silent, slouching on the chair, his eyes scanning the establishment.

Whisper considered that and took a sip of her drink.

"I suppose...we don't have control over whether or not the others stay or go...live or die. One could argue that there's little point in being friendly with one another therefore."

She shrugged.

"But then again, is it really better being tense and awkward all the time? And it's not as if it takes much time, or effort, to be civil with one another. We'll be happier for the moment...and it costs us nothing if we do disappear. Here, let me show you."

The silhouette waved the bartender over. "Get my friend here one of whatever he wants. On me."

White teeth flashed behind dark violet lips.

"See? Nothing to it."

Chevy emits a small snort of derision, but a slight smile does cross his lips.

He looks at the barkeep speculatively, then announces, "I'd like one bourbon, one Scotch, and one beer."

The keep looks at Chevy blankly, grunts, "I'll get you a beer", then moves off to fill the order.

Chevy shrugs. "Worth a try."

IF YOU CAN FIND THEM...
The streets are bountiful for Egil's pocketbook but not for his stomach. By 2am or so, he'd completed the deal on the gear. What he also knew, was sharp enough to catch, is that he probably got a great price because the fence was actually a CS mole who is now probably off doing his sleazy job of ratting Egil out. Probably would have a lead time of 24 hours, probably, before the goons show up. Probably should transfer the swanky CS moola to Black Market stuff. Still, it's real money for the time being!

Unlike the old-fashioned wild-west saloons of old, which tended to be as light as possible, according to legend anyway, this was more of a divey, hotel bar. It was dark except for pools of light over the bar itself and a few of the gaming tables. There are tables in the middle of the room, and a small stage jammed in a corner with a tiny engineering station almost itself on the stage, but the Nameless naturally gravitate to the booths. The booths were high-backed and covered in ripped vinyl of varying shades of dirty. Each booth has a rectangular overhead light that casts the awkward blue light of a cheap LED bulb. Everyone but Whisper looks bad washed in that tone.

The check-in counter to the hotel sits right at the entrance to the bar, so Whisper barely has to pause to get a key before heading in to get her refreshments. Yelling as the band finishes a song or a set, they fumble with their gear so it's hard to tell, Whisper places her order and initiates genial conversation. The barkeep, not one to let an opportunity to talk to a pretty lady go to waste, gives her probably more response than Whisper probably wanted. Especially when the answer boiled down to: not much.

When Nomel follows in Whisper's footsteps, his reactions aren't quite as lascivious as hers, but the word has already reached the staff's ears that he drives a Glitter Boy and so is met with quite a deal of respect and deference. The clerk assures him that he'll get the best room, at no additional charge of course, and to just let him know if there's anything Nomel might need.

The young dragon seems to be content just observing for the moment. He is definitely growing, maturing. The reckless infant is now patient and insightful. What other wonders does the world hold?

One might consider the repartee between a(n atypically) surly quick-flex and a (typically) charming silhouette to be wondrous, or at least enjoyable. To Nomel, though it apparently isn't and he wanders off into the thin crowd. Whisper's charisma keeps the pair in drink and food as long as they want to banter. It's certainly dark enough and secluded enough for both their comfort.

Nomel's adventures at the gaming tables are benign, thankfully. He is offered to join into most of the games, his profession, or maybe calling, has made it this far as well. The customers and staff great him with respect and deference. Despite the big-city atmosphere and the mix of customers, Nomel is met with nothing but positivity.

The morning is still overcast, but a nice even light comes through the cloud layer. Shadows are faint. There's a sense that this is what things really look like, they aren't being washed out by sun, or obscured by shadows. The temperature is a little bit warmer, but it's still jacket weather (or EBA if you've got it!). The morning crowd is heavier than the night, but not so much that it would be considered crowded to most urbanites. The country folks, it seems downright bustling.

Archie is the last one to enter town. Quite certain that Egil used a holovid from a datapad to hawk the recent salvage, he assures Chevy that there is a safe place to park the Bop til the transaction details are made and a selling point is confirmed. "Egil can handle the sales and then we can take care of drop off and collecting the creds."

Entering the dive with the rest of the Nameless, he notices that nothing here interests him and so he promptly excuses himself. As he heads back outside, Archie casually offers to stay with the Bop while the others get something to eat and maybe a placeto sleep if they need it. Archie sits on the hood of the Bop in his 10 year old human boy form. Leaning back, he watches the sky over Kingsdale. Piecing star formations together, Archie attempts to maybe draw out his parents' location via astrology.

Despite getting in late, Egil is as energetic as ever come morning. Sleep was overrated as far as he was concerned. He gathers everyone up at breakfast and present them with the credits from last night’s deal. A cool 38842 credits a piece.

He puts one arm around Whisper and the other around Architect and the gleam in his eyes that was probably hunger dims a bit.

“You two are the best, sharing your breakfast with me. And...I got an awesome deal on the gear. Found this coat too, very haute couture don’t you think? I think you all need to see what you can buy as well. I bet that money is burinin’ a hole in your pocket hotter than a plasma grenade. What say we go spend it and get back on the road? Gotta keep movin’ on, with the mission and all. We’re the Legion, and we get more shit done before breakfast than most folks do all day!”

The psi-stalker is more restless than usual. It’s obvious he wants to get moving and also apparent he’s holding something back.

Finally, when it does not appear the rest of the crew is getting the hint. He blurts out the bad news.

“Uh..um..those credits might be useless by the end of the day and um...the fence I sold the Coalition gear may...damn it Chevy don’t look at me like that….anyway he may have been a Coalition spy...so uh...best we unload these credits and put Kingsdale in the rear view.”

Chevy looks incredulously at Egil as he hands out the credits. "Exsqueeze me?" he sputters. "Who in poo-perfect hell gave you permission to sell our salvage? I'm surprised you didn't come back with a bag of beans or some crap like that!"

At Egil's warning, he fairly explodes, "JEEBUS CLUNY FROG! What the hell did you do? Go to the local market and set up a stall? You flippin' IDIOT!"

He storms off, heading out to the Bop. He'll have to work on it, but he should be able to exchange the credits before they go bad. He makes sure the Bop is secure, then heads into town, still fuming.

Buying 35K in TW raw materials (gemstones, specifically). The remainder of the money goes to tips to the hotel staff and incentives to bartenders and such who help him locate the TW wholesalers.

Nomel takes the credstick with a nod of thanks, then blinks slowly as Egil explains the circumstances. Hrm.... "Well, limited use or not, thank you Egil. I think I know how to handle this. I'm going to ask around for a supplier for TW raw materials, see if I can make a bulk purchase. The gemstones travel easy and most garage-shop TWs will let you provide the materials for a discount, so it's almost as good as cash."

He heads out after breakfast, matching deeds to words, starting by asking the hotel staff for advice, using some of the credits as a tip by way of thanks. Once he finds a wholesaler, he'll be looking for a fair deal, seeking to cash in 35K in credits for a suitable amount of mixed, TW-quality gemstones.

Whisper rubs the bridge of her nose, wincing a little, then gives Egil a wry luck.

"In the future, please don't hesitate to ask me for backup on these sorts of ventures. You wouldn't go into a pitched battle all alone, so why..."

She paused then, spotting the obvious flaw in her logic.

"You would though, wouldn't you?"

With a sigh, the silhouette rises to her feet and pats Egil on the shoulder as she goes past him towards the door to hurriedly swindle some poor merchant who would think this was the best day ever for awhile.

"Well. The offer stands."

Archie had indeed joined the Nameless for breakfast that moerning having spent the entire evening and early morning on and around the Bop. He was loong for signs. Trails. Clues.

Fairly certain that if Symon had come from the Federation of Magic, that he would have stopped somewhere along the way. Kingsdale was open for mages so it was likely he made a stop.

Wads of cash. Limited time. Eminent danger. What’s that add up to? SHOPPING!!!!

Kingsdale is civilized enough to have almost most things a savvy adventurer might desire or require. The Tomorrow Legion has enough cachet to offset the naysayers in town. It’s daylight, shops are open, criminal types are undercover, but the wads of cash are plenty incentive to bring them out into the light of day.

Glorious capitalism!!!
Kingsdale
Kingsdale (from here since I ain't got no books at work)
City-State
Leader: Dictator Geoff Mercator
Population: 144,000 (46% Human, 54% D-Bee)
Nestled in the wooded hills of southern Missouri, Kingsdale is a free city, where D-Bees, magic, and high-technology are a common sight. The city offers body-chop-shops, arms dealers, techno-wizard merchants, and every kind of shop or business imaginable.

The city has ties to various mercenary companies, the Federation of Magic and the Pecos Empire. That, and the fact that Kingsdale claims a large portion of the territory between Coalition-controlled Missouri and Arkansas, has put the community in the Coalition’s cross hairs
Quick Combat Shopping
1.
  • Known factors:
Cash = use it or lose it, it goes away at the end of the scene.
    Time = resources
Write a good, long description, of the shopping results from your perspective and get a benny and 1 XP (we'll treat it like an interlude).

Scene Modifier (if any)[/b]: none

2. Player Character Options: this will allow you the Player Character to have more control over the results of Quick Combat, Mass Combat or Quick Battle without having to use Bennies. You may use Bennies as normal.

Resources Spent: As a default your character spends 8 hours shopping. Before rolling declare if you would like to have your character risk more less time for a better chance of success.
  • -2: Rush Job - Character spends only 4 hours shopping, +100% price.
  • +0:Careful Shopper - Haggles appropriately, comparison shops, maybe a little light thievery if necessary. Standard Rifts stuff.
  • +2: Serious Business - You do not play around and do what you have to in order to ensure a good deal, even if might jeopardize the team's security. Adds 4 hours, saves 25% (that is, you can buy 25% more, since you're spending it all), +2 to roll.
  • +4: Mega Coupon Clipper - It's all about the deal! You will not be undersold! Haggle X-Treme. Fisticuffs and threats. Everything and anything to get the best of the other guy. Add 6 hours, saves 50%, +2 to roll.
3. Quick Combat Roll:
  • Critical Failure (eek): The hero is loses all the money. Adds 8 hours to group total.
  • Failure (+2): Spends all the money, gets 25% of the goods, adds 4 hours to the group total.
  • Success (+0): The hero gets the goods, does the job and no strawberry jam involved.
  • Raise (-4): The hero gets the goods and is supremely efficient. Subtract 4 hours from the group total.
  • Two or More Raises (-1 hour/raise): Winner winner! Whether a silver tongue or threatening demeanor, the character gets the deal of the century, inexplicably, over and over. Their efforts subtract an additional 1 hour for each additional raise from the GROUP AVERAGE. The character may also reduce another player's Critical Failure result to a normal failure if he narrates how he interfered. In addition you gain a Benny, or things lined up well for you.
4. Narrative: You then do your best to narrate the result of your roll to make your character seem as awesome as possible.

Average of Group Time:
16 hours or more - The Nameless identified, the CS notified and on the heels of the Nameless in Kingsdale, patrols alerted.
12-16 - CS know who the Nameless are, but have not tracked them down yet, Nameless have a 2 hour head start.
8 -12 - CS knows there are shenanigans, but hasn't tracked it all down, 6 hour head start
Less than 8 - Totally shook the CS.

There were bright, shiny places in Kingsdale where people could buy things, but those were not Whisper's places. Leaving her room, she lowered her smoked quartz goggles over her eyes and ventured into the searing daylight to liquidate some ill-gotten credits. Or rather, to unliquidate them. Solidate? Funny the holes one found in language from time to time.

The back alleys of the city proved fruitful. After convincing the first layer of goons...she thought of them as 'receptionists'...that she was business, she got access to some people who moved merchandise. Techno-wizard stuff, some munitions, some relatively normal military surplus tech. You didn't have to hit the black market up for this stuff, but Whisper did it for three reasons. First, they didn't need ID or ask questions. When the Coalition showed up, they wouldn't give many leads. Second, they knew how to lay low...the odds were good the Coalition would never find them in the first place.

And third...she was just more comfortable in that setting. A verbal agreement with a guy surrounded by gun-toting bodyguards wasn't really any more dangerous than signing a contract in a showroom, and it was a set of threats Whisper understood much better.

There was an unexpected dividend as well. As she tossed her last two credit chits at some homeless beggar at the curbside, she overheard a gaggle of young toughs talking to each other as they passed her by. Talking about some fennodi with a ton of gems they were going to roll.

How many fennodi with gems could there be in Kingsdale? This bore some extra attention.
Rolls: Streetwise 17, 8 hours spent, 1 benny, +25% buying power

Archie splits up his credits among the others. (7500 K additional for Egil, Whisper, Nomel, and Chevy).
Hindrance
Poverty (Minor): Architect does not hoarde. Most of what he gets, he gives away, often repaired or in much better shape.
This morning Archie is in his adult male human form in some coveralls and looking a bit greasy.

CritFail, total shopping time 20 hours
Serious Business (+2 to roll, +4 hours base shopping time)
Skill Choice: Streetwise
Streetwise [dice]0[/dice]
Wild Streetwise [dice]1[/dice]

.
Nomel's a bit naive, and gets directions from Angie, a friendly chambermaid he tipped heavily. Angie is also a bit naive, and took the tip to treat her boyfriend, Montrose, to lunch, telling him about the well-heeled mercenaries who were wandering around town with money to burn, especially the Fennodi she'd sent over to Tinker Alley, where the TW shops were (she didn't know any wholesalers, but had figured he could ask the Techno-Wizards where to buy from).

Montrose... isn't naive at all. He leaves lunch, giving Angie a kiss, and immediately contacts his boys. They meet at Tinker Alley just in time to locate the Fennodi as he enters the gemcutter's store. They take up positions and, when he leaves and starts walking down the street with a couple packages, they hit like a well-oiled machine. One, walking in the opposite direction as the GB Pilot, times it so they pass one another at an alleyway entrance. A body-check by the brute shoves Nomel into the secluded, dead-end alley. Even as he whirls to face the man who shoved him, another, waiting behind some trash bins, emerges with a Neural Mace and jams it straight to the base of the spine, causing Nomel to drop like a sack of bricks, the packages of gemstones falling from his hands.

The toughs snatch up the bags, and were about to search him for more loot when they heard voices coming, and took off with the easy and obvious score, leaving Nomel laying there, unconscious, farmboy in a big city.
OOC Comments
If Critfail stands:
No loot, 20 hours.

If someone burns a 2nd Raise to counter the CritFail, they can manage to find Nomel after only 12 hours and even recover 25% of the gems (presumably dropped by one of the thugs as they fled): 11K in gemstones.

Of course, the oncoming voices were not what those men, those 'toughs' should have been concerned about.

They had nearly made it out the back of the alley, to the freedom of the buildings beyond, when their way became blocked by a wall of utter, light-consuming blackness.

"You boys," said a female voice, dripping with contempt. "Look at you. Don't they teach thieves anything these days?"

From the thick absence of light cutting off their escape stepped a statuesque humanoid figure in tight black armor.

The one with the neural mace lunged forward, but too slow. The shadows surrounding her suddenly stretched, shaped itself into needles and jabbed forward to pierce his temples. Immediately he fell to his knees, dropping the mace and clutching his head and emitting a loud, shrill, girlish scream of terror.

"Go!" shouted the second tough to the one who had the bag of gems. "Get out of here!" Then he grabbed an old crate lying broken on the ground and hurled it at her. Grabbed a garbage can lid and hurled it. Anything to get her attention and keep it.

Then the shadow fell over him. The world melted away and he was floating in an inky void.

Towering over him, floating in space there in front of him, was the woman.

"You understand that by all rights, this should be your end."

Monsters swam out of the darkness, unspeakable shapes like the fish that grow deep where the sun will never reach. Misshapen things that seemed to be all teeth, all blind milky-eyes, all spines and malice. They swam around him in rings.

"In deference to the sensibilities of the one you idiotically assaulted however, it won't be. Reflect on how the man you attacked is now saving your life, even lying unconscious on the ground."

The horrors ceased their circling, instead fanning out on either side of him like an honor guard. She leaned down, her face filling his field of view.

"In the future, know your target before you move on him child. It's unlikely you'll be so lucky again."

Row after row of wide, vacant eyes and massive crystalline fang turned to stare at him...and all of them swarmed in at once.

In the alley, Whisper watched the thug howl in terror and drop to the ground, unconscious alongside the spot his conspirator had dropped a moment earlier. She glided over to the gems the last one had scattered around the alley when he'd stumbled in his haste to escape, and scooped them up.

Then with a grunt of effort she hauled Nomel up and out of the alley as well. He was too heavy to get all the way back to the rooms, but there was a fountain nearby that she managed to walk him over to so she could lay him down on a bench near by and scoop some water over his head to try to wake him up.

Egil takes the group admonishments in stride. As the others get up to go off on their errands, he grins at Architect.

“Not one of them turned down the cred stick did they though? Heh.

“You know if they hung around any longer, I’d have told them where to go. Oh well. Look, I appreciate the extra creds and snack, my scaly friend. See, the thing is, before I sold the goods, I spent quite a bit of time in the Laughing Skeleton last night. Juicer bar, not like you guys would have been able to hang...well you could...but ich schweife ab. Anyway, I found out all the places you need to go to get anything. I knew Chevy would not listen to me so I left it in the ‘Bop for him to find. Should cut down on the time to get what he needs.

“For you, I would go to Ye Alchemy Shoppe. Run by a Wolfen name of Numo. Trades in info and supposedly up to speed on magical know how. Retired though. Still, might turn somethin’ up you’re lookin’ for. You ever meet a Wolfen before? They are kinda like stuck up Dog Boys if you know what I mean. Dog Boys they want to play and fetch and all that stuff dogs like to do. Wolfen, though, they have codes and stuff. I once threw a stick by one once and he got all insulted. How was I supposed to know that was offensive?

“Alright then, I’m off. If you see the others out and about, tell ‘em to call me if they are having trouble. I’m headin’ to the Gunnery Emporium to get this new armor slicked up and repainted. I don’t think we are in too much of a rush and even if the Dead Heads are on to us, well we are the Nameless so we can handle it.”

With that, Egil sets off to the Gunnery Emporium. It truly is a weapon’s geek paradise. Before the psi-stalker gets lost in the warehouse’s endless isles of weapons and armor, he goes to the service center towards the back.

A man in worn coveralls and more grease stains than hair steps from out of the back warehouse where sounds of grinders and welding equipment can be heard.

“What can I do you for, buddy”

“Well you see, I got this new armor and it’s pretty slick but I’m partial to some of the mods in my old armor. I want those transferred over. I also want a custom paint job and some etching and stencil work done.”

The man’s brow furrows and his eyes widen a slight bit, but he doesn’t say a word about the Coalition Armor.

“Yeah, we can do that. Not to busy either, so we should have done in a couple of hours. Gonna cost ya to take it out of your Huntsman suit and install it in your new armor, though, and it will probably wreck your old armor, too. What you got in mind for the artwork?”

Egil smiles and pulls out some drawings. “I was think something like this here, and that there, and maybe this on the shoulders. Also, if you could put this on the back of this duster, that’d be cool.”

“Yeah, not a problem. You going to wait.”

“Sure, I’m going to pick up some other stuff as well. You got an awesome selection here. Lots of Juicer stuff. You get a lot of them in here, I bet. You ever see a Maxi-Killer? I haven't, but I heard of 'em. No? I guess I ought to let you get to work.”

“Alright, I’ll call you over the PA system when its ready.”

The psi-stalker smiles and bounds off to browse the rest of the store. He quickly finds what he wants, but continues to search for anything that maybe left behind by mistake. It is Rifts Earth and sometimes a little thievery is involved with the deal. Unfortunately, everyone is careful with there possessions and nothing is left lying around.

It would seem, that regardless of the disguise, Egil always "sees" Archie as a dragon. That is fine in Archie's mind. Maybe someone will confuse Egil's banter to mean that he is a Grackletooth or something similar, like a lizard folk or yuan-ti or some such. Assured that Egil won't blow his cover, Archie relaxed before getting on with his visits to Kingsdale.

Archie nods at Egil's recommendations."I will add it to my other intended visits for the next few hours."

Thinking about visiting the mechanics shops in town, Archie really likes the idea of orking on some machines, but that will have to wait. Maybe he can sneak a modification or an upgrade into the Bop once in a while. For now, it is Symon and his connections that interest him most.

Chevy marches through the outdoor market, still fuming at Egil's ham-fisted antics. Despite his diminutive size, his "It's a bad time to mess with me" body language, plus the various armaments on his person make any would-be muggers pause and readjust their priorities.

I'll need to transfer these bogus credits for decent trade goods. Ammunition is always good, maybe some non-perishable goods and medical supplies. Preferably stuff I can fit in the Bop without taking up too much space...

His train of thought derails as the front of a store catches his eye. He freezes, his face slack.

The establishment seems modest; the hand-painted sign reads "Buy Music Here". A customer exits carrying Jeebus Cluny Frog! Is that... a vinyl record? Chevy's brain manages to internally stammer.

His face scrunches up, his eyes shining with tears. He brings his hands to his mouth to squelch an unmanly squeal of delight.

Like a moth to the flame, he flutters inside, all thoughts of responsible money management scattered like leaves in the wind.

Nameless Map

YOU'VE BEEN FOUND SANE?
Whisper: Whisper is clearly the face around here. No matter how hard Egil tries, the crafty silhouette makes it rain. She even manages to avert complete disaster and saves Nomel's naive butt.

Archie: The juvenile (no longer an infant!) dragon roams the mean streets of Kingsdale looking for info on Symon the Seer. There is a contingent of Federation characters and associates in town. The name of Symon isn't unknown. At most he gents information on the shifter's status in the Federation: he was on kind of probation for having failed a previous high profile mission. Egil's contact, Numo, says that Symon did pass through Kingsdale, and was on his way to Merctown, so the shop keep remembered. One of the other shop keepers Archie speaks confirmed the Merctown connection, having sent Symon some goods at a Merctown merchant's address.

Nomel: Poor Nomel! Life in the big city! Money to burn and look at the trouble he gets into! Good thing he's got new, shady friends to help him out!

Egil: Spending too much time in the bright shiny new section takes a little of Egil's scroungy edge. But he gets all the shiny new stuff!!!

Chevy: All of Chevy's deals are productive, yadda yadda, but that doesn't matter. He managed to snag by SEVEN vinyl records (Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, Miles Davis – Kind of Blue, Prince - Purple Rain, Marvin Gaye - What's Going On, Slick Rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Sufjan Stevens - Come On! Feel the Illinois!, Taylor Swift - 1989), two "tapes" (Gwar - Scumdogs of the Universe and Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet) and some wonky digital media players full of tunes.

Brody spots the psi-stalker coming out of the Gunnery Emporium. He was shown a picture--a short video, really--of this Egil character before they shunted him quick-like to Kingsdale. They gave him something official looking that should be enough, but these "Nameless" don't know he's coming. He better turn on the charm. Wait, why is the psychic battery making contact with the psychic-vampire? Who thought this through?

For the Nameless, hanging around a few hours after the "expiration date" of their money is a either a great idea or a horrible idea. It would be highly entertaining to watch the CS dead boys scamper about town chasing ghosts. It would be less hilarious if any of the venders turned on them...

From two sources, Archie confirms that Symon had a contact in Merc Town. Well his information is valuable to him. Hopefully he can sell the need to visit MercTown to the rest of the Nameless.

When Archie meets up with the rest of the Nameless he has a big smile and cannot retell the information about Symon without laughing, especially the part about Symon being on Probation with Fedeeration. To be honest, why wouldn't the Federation have killed Symon?

Archie considers what the responses may have been like if hey had first said that Symon was dead and that he needed to know where to return his personal effects.

On to Kingsdale or WTF are you sending me there for and You got to be kidding me my contact is a PsiStalker and it is for Lunch!

While at the Pandimenssional Pub a messenger comes in and sees Brody,
"Conrey, we got your assignment get your gear and report to Departures."

Brody nods acknowledgement then. Says good bye to Alenys, “Sorry it seems they need me, I hope I can keep in contact with you. Just not sure how it is going to be done or the frequency." He gives Alenys a big hug. Not sure of if a kiss would be appreciated or wanted. "Another first date and away I go."

Brody gathers all his gear and ask about where departures is. He gets a run around, like yea this is a new guy thing. He eventual gets to departures and the have him sit down. The person at the Table goes over information,
“Ok Brody Conrey, being posted to The Namesless.”
He turns a video screen around and shows him a picture of the group and continues,
“The person you need to contact is Egil ‘The Edge’ Skallgrim, this is a video of him. These are you here is the patch show that to him and he will understand. Suggestion be careful when you approach him.”

As he takes this all in he prepares for his new posting with the Nameless? “I hope Elle knows what she is doing sending me in to a place with Mages, most Mages hate my type. What is wrong with this group? They couldn’t think of a name for themselves?”

As he is handed ID, and a video of who to contact he looks and says out loud, “Really I am to contact a Psi-Stalker? Who’s idea was this my old girlfriend, Chrissy?” He looks up to the top of the room. “You know they like to drain us? Cut and drain. Psi-stalkers energy and girlfriends credits!” He moves along as others are snickering around, “Uh, am I to carry anything else to the team, am I taking anything like their pay. Oh, what’s my pay and where am I going to collect it?”

Later he is ushered to another room and a mage is there.
“Brody Conrey, No talking please, I’m locating Egil Skallgrim, yes there he is going into Gunnery Emporium, Kingsdale. Stay outside and wait form him to come out. Ok this seems like a safe place to have you pop in. TraysPut up, seats in the up right position and seat belts fastened.”

Pop, Pooff, Brody is in an ally looking at the front of the Gunnery Emporium. the idea of traveling like this is not new to him . he has the ability himself to do this. so it takes him just a few short seconds to adjust himself.

He waits comfortably resting by leaning on the side of the building. taking everything in as the person in his breifing told him.

Touch your ear if you can here me. You should also be able to talk to me in your mind. the Castle gave me some ID. I can follow you at a safe distance or lead the way to some open place. Not sure what you want me to do. I just don't want to be throttled when I approach you. or cut and drained."

As he looks at him he sees that he isn't starving. Being suspicious in a new environment Brody would like to wait and follow “The Edge” making sure he hasn’t picked up any fleas while shopping.

Whisper shakes her head with a roll of her pale white eyes. "Was an evil 'sunnavabitch.' Now he's half the man he was. Well, two halves, really...just not connected to one another anymore."

She grimaces and takes a drink from her canteen, then spits the water out again.

"Thanks for reminding me of that, by the way."
The memory of Symon's last moments...
The shadow dragon apparently hates Symon more than it hates the demon. The "other" dragon slams a clawed foot down, but it misses the shifter. Symon starts to run away but is snatched up in the dragon's jaws. With a snap, the shifter is split into two gory pieces that fall to the ground, landing with a splat and to quote an ancient text, proof that "all god's children got hemoglobin."

Archie motions for Nomel to step closer.

"Symon was a summoner. Brought over this demon." Archie touches the Katana/sword-like tattoo on his right forearm. A very LARGE flaming blade appears in Archie's hand. "The demon had my father's sword. Trouble is I do not know the demon or where it is from. But my parents are being held whereever the demon was from. Figure people who knew Symon, may know where he was summoning from."

"Are you familiar with the Celestial Court or the Jade Throne? My parents are the heads of those organizations." Dropping his voice to a very low whisper, "Demons like to breed dragon-demon spawn from captured individuals like myself and my parents."

"Unless you have means of communing with the dead, Symon's contacts are the best lead there is for tracking down the Celestial Court."

"To be clear, I am not steering the Nameless. I get the impression that building up contacts and repor will benefit our work when we get to Dweomor."

Archie dismisses the flaming great sword and looks for the others to arrive.

Notice: Critical Fail
Notice [dice]0[/dice]
Wild Die [dice]1[/dice]
Egil walks out of the Emporium happy with his new purchases and customized armor.

Wait until Chevy sees this paint job, he’ll want this on the ‘Bop for sure…

And then the psi-stalker stops dead in his tracks as the telepathic message comes through. His first instinct is to let go and ride the Edge. Whoever or whatever this was would be in for a wild ride of Egil riding a giant wolf velociraptor hybrid over a psychedelic landscape slaying what appears to be the love child of a brodkil and rhino buffalo all to the tune of being sanctified with dynamite.

Unfortunately, his senses are fouled by the city and he cannot pinpoint where the telepathic message is being sent.

“Alright, Brodey Conrey, if that is who you really are and not the Burster who ate too many tacos that my mother warned me about. You can follow along for now--Chevy is going to be pissed at me again first for the Coalition and now this….wait, you didn’t pick that up did you? I don’t know anybody named Chevy. Ford is who I was thinking of. Ford, Daylight, Doodler, Nigel, and me Blunt. That’s us. “

Egil tugs on his ear maybe a little too dramatically and spins in a circle. He then wanders back to the ‘Bop at a fairly good clip. Not fast enough to draw attention in Kingsdale where Juicers abound, but quick enough that anybody that isn’t enhanced would have a hard time keeping up.

When he reaches the rest of the Nameless, he interrupts the discussion about Symon.

“I have a voice in my head.”

Seeing the blank looks on his friends’ faces. He says the same thing in the nine other languages he knows. Exasperated, he climbs on top of the ‘Bop and sits down.

“You might as well come out, Grodey to the max Conrey. We obviously won’t be any readier than this.”

Nomel doesn't quite understand what Egil is saying, but after the day he's had, he figures there might be trouble, and so he immediately gets up and goes to Gabrielle, getting into the suit as Egil keeps trying to explain what's going on. If I'm misunderstanding, well, we'll figure it out. But if there's trouble of some sort, best to be ready, this time. As they are currently in city limits, once he's suited up he doesn't ready the boom gun, instead pulling out the large crescent-headed staff.

Archie sitting on the hood of the 'Bop and makes some room for Egil, leans in close, "Telepathy my friend?" Tapping Egil gently on the head. "Someone spoke to you through your mind?"

Not looking to Nomel but pointing to his head, he knows Nomel has some psychic abilities, he opens his mind up to the Glitter Boy pilot, "Psychic in the area."

If Whisper and Chevy are in the area, Archie waves a hand in the air like he is greating them and with the other motioning for caution.

Brody is really glad that he didn’t just go out and introduce himself. as The Edge starts babbling he turns to an

invisible friend, today it is Harvey, Brody sees people who arent there or maybe they are there and no one else sees them.
and says in a low voice, “What the hell did I get myself in to. Doesn’t he know anything about keeping secrets.” Brody will get images of the various people if the Edge uses a visual in his brain. (He might see Chevy and then an old Ford car ect)

“Harvey did you see that shit, Oh, crap a pirouette in the middle of the street. Oh, now he is running, how can I keep up with him.” he turns to his invisible friend, "Thanks Harvey," “Take it easy don’t sprint. How can I tell if you are being followed? Oh, where you are going to meet the others? Ok I’ll meet you there.” This was done to get an image of the place so that if he loses him he can find him. “Great team work Harvey. Watch my six.” Brody waits to see if there is a trail on “The Edge”

As he gets close to the ‘Bop’ he hears The Edge
“I have a voice in my head.”
Brody sees The Edge looking at the others.

To The Edge
“Are you trying to get me killed? The name is Brody Conrey. Tell them, tell them I was sent by the Castle to be their new team member. Elle the Owl sent me.” He turns to his invisible friend, “No Harvey I’m not going to tell him I’ll make him piss in his pants if he doesn’t relay the information.”

Chevy spends his time after returning from shopping locked up in the Bop. Hearing the commotion, he sticks his head out the top hatch.

"Gorram it, my ride is not fraggin' furniture! Go perch your butts somewhere else!"

Hearing Egil's comments, he snorts, "So what else is new, Screwloose?" Nevertheless, he reaches down then perches on top of the hatch, his rifle on his lap.

Egil frowns as Chevy scolds him.

“I always sit up here. You don’t want me inside co-piloting, now you don’t want me up here. You really need to make up your mind.

The psi-stalker gives a wink back at Archie.

“Yes, I think he’s using telepathy. Says he is with the legion, too. Says Elle the Owl sent him...pretty insistent about it. Couldn’t get a lock on him before, but I’m sensing him right over there now.”

Egil nods in the general direction of Brodey.

“Do you all think he is another cyber-knight? I hope not, cause they always flake on us. I mean cool dudes and all….

As he continues to talk about cyber-knights flying off on gryphons or disappearing in the middle of the woods, he draws his pistol and moves over to make room for Chevy.

Back through the telepathic connection with Brodey, You ought to come on out. I don’t think we’re gonna kill ya. Maybe...yeah..probably not….better than 50/50….

Brody listens to the Nameless talk and through the mind of The Edge. He then turns solid, behind some covers. He talks to something over his right shoulder, “Yes I know he has a few screws lose. No, I don’t think he slept with any Gnomes. Yes, I understand you got me covered.” To the group out there,

Brody steps out hands open and at shoulder in front of him He hass a huge pack on his back. In the right hand is a patch of the Castle. “Hi my name is Brody Conrey, I’m from the Castle. Elle the Owl assigned me to the Nameless.” Brody looks over the shoulder. “Oh, and she is Harvey, she is invisible.” Brody sighs and continues as if he has done this a million times, “Yes I know. You don’t see anyone, she is invisible. And I know some of you might see invisible, but you don’t see her. If you turn your head quickly of to the side you might catch a glimpse of her. She appears as light patch then it disappears. Do you want the patch I think there is a chip in it, it tells who I am and the latest and greatest from the Castle. Getting back to Harvey, I have a condition. When ever I teleport I might bring along,” Brody pauses to think how to say this, “along with some Interesting people.” He pauses and looks over the shoulder. “Excuse me, I stand corrected. Harvey, she says interesting beings. Yes I meant no disrespect. Harvey is a Spr, Royal Sprite from another dimension. She is here for only about 12 to 24 hours.”

Brody pauses and then continues, “Simply put when I teleported from the castle, to here I appeared in her dimension as a glowing orb. She touched me and I dragged her through to this dimension also. She is in her dimension and she is talking to her friends as I am talking to you.”

“Think of it as, you are crossing a large river. The river is the astral plane. So, as you swim across the river you encounter other things in the water. When you get out you’re still wet and some of those other things are still with you, and it takes time to dry.”

“Well she came with the water. It’s a condition I have, I attract things like Harvey, ghost, and spirits. They seem to like me. and they love visiting.”

“OK, OK, she thinks, The Edge is rude for making me wait so long for him to finish shopping. I also told her he feeds off of beings with magic and energy like ours and she wanted to kill him on the spot. Good news, I talked her out of it and said in this place his kind serves a purpose against bad beings. that is why I used telapaty to communicate. Then I introduce myself and he acted crazy. I told him he was Crazy, and that didn’t help. And him spinning around and running off. She is still debating about doing something to him, but I think she understands.”

Brody turns his head again, “She is wondering if I am now safe enough here so she can visit local Faye folk? She thinks it would be great to have a party. I told her they might not appreciate her showing up with all these. She understands and says she might talk a couple of the Faye to help keep an eye out on us.”

"Well, Am I safe?"

Nomel considers. "I agree. Let us get on our way. Someone should probably check out the chip from Elle, but we can do that on the road, I think."

He moves into position to march alongside the Bop, at least until they get out of town.

OH YOU'RE SO MEAN
The parking lot is lively because of the Nameless. The patrons of the fine establishment they are camped out in front of don't seem to mind. There are a few stares at the gang, but not of interest, well, in self-interest. But the Nameless are not being threatening. And for a group with a Glitter Boy and missile armed ORV*, that's saying something.

Eventually however word was going to get round that these guys were goofing off in the parking lot.

The Glitter Boy is heavy armor for sure, but the general reputation makes the locals less nervous. Cops included. Kingsdale is big enough to have a legitimate police force. A few patrol cars passed by.

Bt around 10pm Chevy and Egil notice that a guy has walked around the block multiple times. Chevy's pretty sure he's caught the guy looking at them as well. He's subtle about it, which is probably bad news.

Brody hands the patch with the information over to Whisper, “I hope everything is OK.” he looks around at the others and offers his hand as a greeting.

Brody looks at Chevy, “I’ll try not to be to flaky.”

“Edge no Harm, we will be working together.” He thinks about Psiscape an he hopes Edge will eventually become a friend.“Yea some Psi-Stalkers are rather nice when you grow up with them.”

He wonders how much the Castle has about him. What he should tell the group about him and what he can do.

Brody looks around, “Hey guys were do I put my gear? Where are we going? Should I try to get a vehicle to help I mean there are a few here? Or are we not suppose to redirect others resources?”

Brody looks at the vehicles at the park not planning to take one but wondering if they have anything interesting. He love to have a hover maybe even a NG Skyking, but realistically, he doubts that he could get to far without someone noticing it.

Brody looks at Nomel and speaks, "Understand nice and peaceful, no holes in us and no holes in them." he then walks over to the ride and ask Chevy, "Hey Chevy, can I get a ride with you please. I didn't come with a lift."

Brody gets in and says in a very honest way, "Sorry Chevy, I'll try to get a ride when I get some extra Creds. Of course, there are vehicles that people leave behind. I could always run across one of them. And I don't think you are here as a taxi. I am wondering what and how I am to be used as in the unit? What are some things I can help you get when I run across them?"

Once inside the Bop Brody continues, "I'm good at getting into things."
He listens to Whisper.

"Many people say it is trouble." Brody says with a smile."Friends call me BC for short, some call me BS."

Whisper regards Brody curiously, yellow pupilless eyes in a beautiful face molded from jet black skin.

"It sounds like a useful skill to me. What would you like me to call you then?"

Brody looks at Whisper then to Chevy and says, "Big Trouble, or whatever the group decides." "B&E, I don't break anything, it ruins the value. Professional Redistributor, Borrower, Economic Exchange Professional and Information Relay Official are some of the more polite ways we could use instead of thivery." "I don't like breaking anything. It is best if they don't know anything happend until later. It is so considerate too, they don't worry about objects security anymore."

Egil is relatively silent as he watches the crowds in Kingsdale.

‘Yep, that dude has walked around the block before”

When none of the Nameless are looking, he blows the guy a kiss as they leave town.

“Hey everybody, stay frosty as we may have more than just Brodey and Harvey with us from the looks of it.

“Brodey, we’ll get on just fine if you can get Chevy to share some of his tunes. Not that moon one, I never understood it. I mean, I’m not in the grass or in the hall...I do get in people’s heads sometimes but I like that symbol guy better. He really got it, you know what I mean? You all should have listened to him when you got covered in the slug goop, didn’t need the Legion eggheads to figure out it was Purple Rain.

“First song on the album is a promotional tune for M.O.M. conversion, you all know that? I bet you didn’t. It’s why we’re cooler than Juicers. If I were a Juicer, you all would be bored out of your mind cause I’d just sit here all quiet and sulking. Not dropping all this wordly knowledge with stimulating conversation. Can even do it in ten other languages if you all want….No? Oh well, just let me know when you got a question on anything and the Edge will answer it.”

DON'T LET THESE SHAKES GO ON*
Brody goes about being charming and sort of loses track of all that's going on beyond his nose.

Archie taking his newfound calm approach, studies the world. He still finds humans to be inscrutable at times, but those fellows gathering across the street are more than likely up to no good.

But...once the Glitter Boy gets moving and its helmet starts swiveling in their direction. Yeah, a towering icon from an age of unbelievable power staring down at you tends to precipitate shall we say, shrinkage.

A couple of the retreating fellows sparkle with magic or arcane power. But as they disappear from Brody's view within seconds, it probably doesn't matter.

Chevy drives skillfully enough out of town, but only because Nomel's chrome power armor keeps the locals off the road. The helmet may conceal Chevy's expression from everyone else, but the expression takes its toll on him, he has to kind of scrunch up his face and he struggles to keep his eyes focused. Even making jokes (even if they are pretty good) still isn't enough. Banter is good though. There is lots of witty banter, and once Egil turns on his special charm, the banter may turn a little crazy inside Bop.

The more monastic staff that Nomel carries doesn't decrease the inherent threat of the Glitter Boy, it instead increases the interest in it. A few more faces pop up to watch the Nameless leave town.

Remarkably, several hours of driving through the early morning is pretty, pretty and uneventful. There's a light fog hovering over the road and creating an eerie veil in the hardwood forests on either side. There are faint noises in the woods, but the typically wholesome natural kind. The fog gives the air a slight chill and mist on Bop's windows, although it's too light for wipers.

They roll to a stop at a crossroads. The road forms a "T", with a radius of about a hundred feet from the junction cleared out. It appears to be a regular stopping point for travelers. There are the remains of cook fires. Some half abandoned tents and shelters lie gathering dew. No one is camped out at the moment. One of the campfires is still smoldering faintly.

There is even a hand-painted wooden sign. Pointing West, Kingsdale 80. Pointing South, Whykin 8. Pointing East, Merctown 100. And the to North, NO with a crude drawing of an arch.

Breakfast at the crossroads? Latte in Whykin? Press on for brunch in Merctown? Cereal? Or one bourbon...

What are you doing?

*Now I know where the idea for Rifts came from.

A large signal (size 4) appears on Nomal's sensor's from the northwest. It seems like a smaller robot unit of some type.

Ulrich sits in the dark cockpit of the Gepanzerter Skorpion which is only lit by the blue glow of the three screens in front of him. Happy to finally have found the Nameless after getting separated from them a bit ago being swept away in the huge river during the Brodkill encounter.

Switching to the same channel the Nameless had used when he was part of it he speaks up.

Zhis iz Corporal Ulrich Von Schlierkamp uf zhe Nameless SET reportingk for duty. Iz goot to see you again Chevy und you as vell Egil. Zhe two uf you are zhe only uf zhe team I recognize from spottingk you.

Sorry for mein separation but zhose vaters I fell into had an undercrrent zhat vas too much for mein thrusters to compensate for. I vas several dozen miles avay by zhey time I gained control uf mein Panzer.

As the Nameless had left Kingsdale in the shadow of a building, Archie had morphed into his little boy form and was sitting on the Glitterboy's shoulder opposite where the boom gun should have been.

Talking to Nomel, "I repaired a Boom Gun once while at Castle Refuge, then had to use it while the outskirts were under seige. I have a lot of respect for the power of that gun."

"I was not as successful repairing the structural damage the garage sustained as I exited out the rear wall."

When Ulrich's voice comes across the team's freq, Archie is stunned silent. Could he really be back? Looking closely, Archie can tell it is the one and only Skorpion.

At the question of "in charge", Archie speaks up, "Ulrich. You and Zima were the only ones with rank. No one else has been designated leader."

Egil ponders the signs.

“NO? What do they mean by ‘NO’? Do you think they don’t want us to go there? I mean I get that stuff comes out of that arch thing, but that seems like a good place to eat, to me….”

When Ulrich’s voice crackles over the radio, the psi-stalker swings down to hang upside down in front of the ‘Bop’s driver viewport.

“Did you get that Chevy? It’s Ulrich! Looks like he didn’t get blown up by that other robot after all.

“Hey Ulrich mein Freund, wie geht es dir? Schön, dass du zurück bist. Wir sind durch einen anderen Cyber-Ritter gegangen, während du weg warst.”

The way Egil slips fluently from American to Euro is uncanny and its still not clear how he is able to do so when only a few weeks ago he could barely read.

Brody enjoys the ride with Chevy and the others. When they come to the camp at the crossroads Brody doesn’t say a thing, “Yea, I know I’m the new guy. Let them make a discussion here. That way if things get slammed up a Furry Beetles back side it was their call. Whoa, who is this guy? What is worst then a D-Bee? A frigin Newbee who's team keeps him out of the loop. No wonder Elle The Owl wants me to report as often as possible.”

Brody sits up and looks at the others they seem to know this one but, he doesn’t remember anyone like this mentioned in the briefing. He sits up in the seat and gets ready to ghost. he tries to keep his mouth close trying to gather in as much information as possible. The guy seams to have a strange accent. Then he switches to Euro. “Chevy, Uh Do I need to have a translator? I don’t recall this person from the briefing. Can I get some information from about him? I need this for the reports I need to send back.”

Edge seems to know this guy. But to Whisper he is new too, As she obsers she wakes up. “Oh, a diamond, that must be from a while ago”.

“Hello Urich, this is Brody, I’m new to the group. Nice to meet you. To the others are we supposed to make a choice here and head somewhere? Or is this a potty break.”

"Next stop is Merctown. Going any other direction will likely have us back tracking."

"Brody, the operator of the Skorpion mech is Sergeant Ulrich. We got four of the original Nameless now. Chevy, Egil, myself, and Sergeant Ulrich."

"The best part of not having an official designator for our unit, we can add personel or remove them as missions and assignments demand."

"Nomel. Whisper. Brody, let me introduce you to Sergeant Ulrich."

"And Ulrich," Archie taps the side of his head, "I know what you are saying." Anyone looking at Archie's forehead would see a third eye appear on his forehead.

On the way out of town, Nomel chuckles at Awktech. "Honestly, I think the Castle proper might be partly to blame for any damage like that--my understanding is that you folks like to have your own space--which only makes sense, given how much room y' need to stretch out--and I know we've still got a few Dragons hanging around there. You're bound to get a bit tetchy like that, so you end up using that muscle maybe a bit harder than you would, otherwise. My brother, Cletus, was the same way, really. Nice fella, but if you got underfoot, he'd give a mighty kick, then feel bad about it later." A pause. "So I imagine you're feeling a little less edgy, now that you got some breathin' room."

*******

Later, at the crossroads, Nomel gives a quick comment about 'incoming' to the others, but when the situation becomes apparent, he calmly waits for the reunion to play out a bit. Once he's been introduced, he gets on the comms again, his voice just a hint of Western drawl. "Corporal, or apparently now Sergeant Ulrich, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm Nomel Sagia--Nomel'll do just fine--and I'm the big shiny one." He briefly opens the helm of the Glitterboy, revealing a Fennodi pilot (well, that would explain the oversized Nymbu staff the GB has strapped to its back), and waves, before resealing the suit. "I'm genuinely glad to hear that another of the first wave is still up and at 'em; anything that makes my new teammates happy is cause for celebration."

Archie reaches across the Glitterboy where he is perched and pats the Fennodi on the head (because he can't find a hand to shake). "Speaking for myself and Egil, we are happy to have more companions. Don't mind Chevy. He is kind of like something called toffee. Hard exterior. Soft and sweet interior. Just mind yourself in and around his ride and things should get along splendidly. Reminds me of a question for Whisper and Brody, either of you any good with weapon systems. The Bop has them. Someone needs to operate them while Chevy drives."
As they make their way to Merctown, Archie describes the situation at Outskirts a little better. "As a dragon would have been the only way to handle a Boom Gun and not be a Glitterboy. Of course I was in a garage repairing the Gun when a Hell Rift opened and I was facing down Hell Spawn in waves. I don't have the anchors that Glitterboy does and went across the garage and through another repair bay from from the blast. None of those deevil's toke the garage though. Other places in Outskirts were not so lucky."

SUPER HOT 80s CHICK CAN'T SAVE THIS VIDEO
Heading east along the rough road, some broken and crumbling pavement, it's mostly rutted, packed dirt. There are puddles in some of the ruts, time-smoothed stones exposed in others. In other places the ruts give way to potholes the size of fury beetles. It's a bumpy ride even inside Bop. The road is plenty wide enough for the large vehicle. There's not quite enough room for the Mountaineer and custom mech to travel side by side, but the Skorpion can easily pass if necessary by detouring a little off road. Bop probably could too, but the south side of the road would be much easier for that maneuver. It slopes gently down and is covered with woody shrubs and the occasional hardwood tree.

The fog seems denser in the forest to the north, but the forest seems denser that way too. After about thirty some odd miles, some very large rocks can be seen about a hundred yards in the distance, obscured slightly by the trees, but also somewhat framed by the forest. For those that can sense it, there is a small nexus centered on those boulders. The larger ley line runs north-south and crosses the road. The smaller ley line runs nearly parallel to the road. The faint glow of the ley lines light up the thin fog.

For everyone though, disturbing signs are visible along the road. Numerous humanoid looking skeletons are scattered along the side of the road. Mostly to the south, but both sides show evidence. Some are propped up like scarecrows. There are even a few cairns built of skulls. Then, of course, there is a bridge. It's a mix of modern and rustic materials, some wood, sinewy ropes, concrete, and steel. It looks plenty sturdy for the vehicles to cross. It doesn't span a large river, but a deep chasm, over a hundred feet deep, the bridge itself is about two hundred. Flanking this side of the bridge are large spear-like poles, each adorned with three human bodies in various stages of decay. There are similar grotesque displays on the other side of the bridge.

For the very observant though, like Nomel or Chevy, the signs are more than just interesting. They are informational. The skeletons have all been burned, probably why they have no flesh on them, it does not appear to be from decay. The corpses on the poles are rotting for sure, but none seem very old. Whatever has been sending this message hasn't been sending it very long. Another thing that Nomel notices, specifically, that there are no vehicles or gear anywhere nearby, but there seem to be signs of trampled plants to the south along the edge of the ravine. Inspecting the area further, the Glitter Boy pilot notices that there are some hammock like contraptions suspended beneath the bridge.

There's no one visible at the moment, so it's probably totally completely safe.

What are you doing?

Egil is bored out of his mind and the proximity of the nexus fouls his psychic senses prevents him from scanning the area from supernatural threats. An idle mind with a crazy psi-stalker is not something anyone should suffer. Egil hops down from time to time and takes a selfie with his helmet recorder of the skeletons and him in various poses. Archie falls into step with Egil as he is doing the selfies. He pauses at each body trying to decode the exact mode of death and he offers silent prayers that they did not suffer long. Hoping against hope he tries to find any sort of identifiers of who these individuals are or were, maybe to send some word back to family of their passing.

Getting close to ley lines and nexii, Archie decides to cast Kono sekai wa jūbundenai (Boost Trait-Notice) on himself and anyone within 10 squares of himself. Hopefully the energies are not misunderstood and the others can benefit froma little assistence.

Brody is beginning to like the new group. Then the road gets rough and he has a hard time trying to sleep in the Bop. “You think the CSS could build some nice roads around here. Note to self, get a Hover Cycle, Hover Vehicle or Flying Vehicle. Comfort is a good thing.” Brody keeps looking around and he sees the fog and forest. “This is never a good thing, every one of those vids that started out like this never ended in a happy ending.”

Then the grisly bodies started showing up, “Oh, great piles of skulls! Does anyone think this is going to be good?” Brody is fighting back the urge to ghost. “The good news. I might find a nice ride out there.”

The Bridge
“Chevy, I hate Troll Bridges! Uh, do you need me to do something? Dang this place needs some cheering up.”

When he hears Ulrich ask Egil for a Physical Recon He take a deep breath. “Edge I can back you up. the rest of you might notice a change in me don't get trigger happy. I'm A ghost.”

When Whisper goes out, Brody ghost and sinks into the ground just his head shows. He will use natural cover such as trees melding with them but keeping an eye on Edge.

EAT ME LIKE A CANNIBAL
Chey, Ulrich and Nomel stay on the broken road while the more mobile Nameless drift off into the light woods to the south.

Even with Bob's sensors, Chevy can't find anything out of the ordinary. Beyond the displays of corpses, of course.

Ulrich has slightly better success. He detects a plume of heat to the south, and maybe some voices, but they are faint and hard to make out.

Archie may not be a tracker, but he is fairly observant these days. The bridge is sturdy, but not well maintained. The stone parts are crumbling. The metal parts are rusting. Whoever originally built or repaired the bridge is no longer here.

Nomel picks up the plume of heat on his sensors too. The voices mean less to him.

Egil is pretty much consumed by the details of the gory scene, much to the shock of his "civilized" teammates. It's only when Ulrich pulls his attention back to the here and now that Egil manages to catch on to the situation. But the way he was studying the remains will probably freak out everyone else for quite a while. He follows after Whisper and Brody to look for clues.

And so, for the scouts, they all reach the same basic conclusion: it's time for an early lunch.

Two simvan and two humans have just lit up a campfire. The lunch is distinguishable as having once been human. But now it's parts. It is far too late to help those poor victims.

The group is speaking to each other in guttural tones, the language is somewhat hard to determine. It's a mix of American and something else. Seems like the word "boss" or "leader" comes up an awful lot.

Whisper glides through the light forest with eases, her spell concealing her completely. Beyond the basics of the scene, Whisper spots a tent partially concealed by a clump of trees. It's a rough canvas tarp affair, not some fancy camping tent. Likely it's for keeping something dry.

Brody makes his way with his head scooting along the forest floor like some animated soccer ball. His view isn't that great, so really the only thing not-obvious he discovers is pretty obvious: the simvan have some power of some kind.

Stalkers, they are psi-stalkers for a reason. Egil moves through the woods like a hunting predator. Even Whisper completely missed his approach. Brody had no clue. Neither, of course did the simvan and human rejects sitting at the campfire. His fine tuned hunter's senses pick up a lot of details. The human parts they are cooking are rancid and old, practically rotting--it's not fresh in other words. He spots the tent. Sniffing the air, it smells like there might be rotting meat up there. He also notices the absence of the ostrasaurus or any other mount for the simvan. All his knowledge about the cannibals is that their creatures won't be far away.

But they rarely talk about a leader or boss, they are very traditional, it's normally chief. And there are two humans about to partake in tne noon-time snack.

What are you doing?[/quote]

**Assuming I am not actually in the water so Phbia trait penalty for fear of drowning is not in play***
Egil slips through the morning mist both unseen and unheard. His vision and psychic sense unhindered by the fog. Seeing and smelling the Simvan causes the psi-stalker to let out a barely audible snarl.

Simvan, it always has to be Simvan...why did it have to be Simvan?...I hate Simvan, Jock, I hate ‘em...Wait a minute...who the heck is Jock? Well let’s see if we can figure out what they are doing besides being gross, flea bitten, animal loving...I mean I love animals and it's ok to love animals, just not LOVE animals….”

As Egil moves to get a better vantage point, the fog clears and reveals the river.

“Keep that Edge, my man...you’re not in the river, just next to it. No need to worry...but what if the Simvan have their pets in the river. Can Ostrasaurus’ swim? Don’t even think about that.”

The one thing the river did do, was provide enough background noise so that Egil could risk using the comms.

“Egil here, tip of the spear for the Nameless as usual. We’ve got two..ugh..Simvan...and two dudes that might as well be Simvan eating on body parts that are strung around here. I mean, do you want cannibals? Because this is how you get cannibals. Anyway, none of the usual riding beasts in sight which is odd..and they keep mentioning some kind of boss. There’s a tent but nothing coming from it but a real dank stank.

“Permission for the recon team to take ‘em out real quiet and see what happens. Whisper, you mentioned you can make ‘em see scary stuff and it hurts their brains. I can do the same thing by givin’ a peek into my brain. Don’t know whay that scares folks, but it does. I can traget the two simvan..because I hate them...and if you can do one of the humans, that leaves Brody to take out the last one….without being detected...which he ought to be able to handle.

“You up for that Brody. Interested to see what ya got. Then we wait to see who cares enough about these dregs to see what happens. Call in Eye in the Sky and Rain Maker to clean up if needed and the Skorpion and the ‘Bop to flank to make sure none get away”

The Plan
Egil is proposing to use Deadly Illusion. With split the seconds, he can target two of them. Whisper hits another and Brody can take out the last one. Then wait to see what happens. Eye int the Sky is of course Architect and Rain Maker is Egil’s new call sign for Nomel because the Boom Gun can make it rain.

Archie acknowledges Egil with a grunt. He isn't pleased with the carnage at the bridge and is distinctly alert for "others."

Taking to the air, Archie hovers just above the fog and the tree line. "Disgusting targets south of us. Copy that."

Brody listens to "The Edge" Speaks, he tries to think what he can do. He thinks the fog can give him some cover, that is good. He can feel the power of the ley line giving him a boost. He responds, "I can try to knock the whole group down. If you let me strike first. Don't get too close till you see bodies flying."

Moving to still be on the path/bridge, but directly north of Egil's current position on the map, since that's the clearest route south, from what I can tell.

Nomel listens and responds. "This seems like a lotta nasty work for a group of four nutjobs. Maybe take 'em alive so we can find out what the hell's goin' on here?" Even as he speaks, he moves to the portion of the bridge that overlooks the riverbank, which is probably his best route to the campsite, if he needs to get there in a hurry.
