Some information for you the players.
My normal posting day will be Sunday. This way we can have consistent schedule for everyone to work around. If we happen to have everyone posted by Wensday, I will post a update to move the story along.

woot, we are up to three of us now. What's the minimum you'd like before we can start?

Hey,
Normally 4 players to start. There's a dog boy in progress, so hopefully he finishes soon. Looks like he just needs a background.
Corrigon...I forgot to mention, maybe you should change your username to match your character name. You can do so by going to User Control Panel>Profile>Account Settings

and have now done so.
So we have an operator, a superpowered mutant, a wilderness scout and potentially a dog boy.
Not the most high powered group so far
And Conrad is definitely doing the driving, so hopefully somebody will be capable of using the rail gun effectively

Our group is shaping up to be very Rifts
As for the rail gun, as long as it is mount I think anyone with the shooting skill can use it. Savage Worlds doesn't differentiate the shooting skill into all the various forms: rifles, pistols, bows, etc.

Re: Out of Character Chatter
That's correct, all you need is shooting and a way to beat strength minimums (and having it mounted in a mount on a vehicle does that)

Power List
Hey, I was just checking the GM guide and it recommends we develop a power list that custom magic users have access too. I thought I could be lazy and just say the same list as the mystic, but they don't get Environmental Manipulation, but everything else. The general theme for this character is nature/elemental/druid type stuff.
Should I submit something to you?
Should we make a note in Character Creation about this?

even though Conrad is only barely the best mechanic now
but it is a good thing I have a vehicle for those with no transport.
did any of the characters fight at Tolkeen and fancy having a preexisting connection with Conrad?

@ Conrad
Sorry I missed your first post - Beretta did fighting for some small factions that got caught up in the crossfire, probably killed more CS than not, but when Tolkeen started playing with demons she fought them just as hard.
She doesn't have anything against any potential refugees though, so it's possible they could have met in the aftermath of the war defending camps, etc.
There's a few possibilities depending on when, where, and the tone - but they certainly could have met during any stage of the conflict.

Sounds good to me, gives it a bit of oomph. Lacking proper mechanical knowledge, Beretta would be quite amicable towards a seasoned operator once the terse standoff subsides.Conrad wrote:presumably the final siege ended up forcing the group you were protecting north and that could be where we met after an awkward and tense encounter and joined up for mutual protection
:Edit:
I'm working on a post to get this in motion, I'll play off your intro so it seems they're not intimately familiar with one another and we can play it out - kind of a eureka moment for the two, putting the pieces together who's who.
I'm going off the notion any civilities were through the visor of a GB, so only a vague acquaintance makes a bit of sense. Maybe what tipped Konrad off was the voice, although familiar, isn't being distorted by the GB loudspeaker, so it took just an extra bit of thought to make that final connection.

Cowboy hats are cool (says, Jesse)
Dead Jesse has been on Rifts Earth for around a year, year and a half. Aware of the Tolkeen war but didn't participate in it. Not directly. He ended up helping those D-Bee's, human's and otherwise who fled as refugees. Thus his eventual arrival at Castle Refugee.
Side note, yes. I'm dead. Don't eat except to heal. Don't have to breath except to talk or to pretend I'm alive. If you hug me, don't know why you would, you might smell the fact that I'm dead. I pass as alive, but may make you wonder. A Notice roll can often bring it to your attention that I'm a deader. A zombie? The Undead! One body two "souls" - mine and a demon. Jesse can not get drunk but he drinks a lot. For memories sake, if nothing else, but also to cover the scent of death
The rope burns around my neck might give it away. If you manage to see them
Cool. So. Game on.

good catch on the supply thread Conrad. 1 bennie for you. By the way everyone, don't forget to make your argument and persuasion roll for the extra stuff you may wish to have. Right now, you only have the two vehicles, ammo, and MRE's
Re: Out of Character Chatter
and judging by the lack of driving skills on most of the characters we probably only need one of the vehicles as Conrad has a modified ATV with a nuclear engine

No worries, Kess. Get better soon, health is always priority numero uno. I was just hoping my belated "top-dog" joke might of still held some water for ya.
Anywho's, I thought it pertinent to let Jesse know Beretta is going to assume he's wracked with cancer. . . at least until he needs a ban-aid. I figured that might hold some comedic value.

I'm flattered. All this sniffing and prancing about good o'dead me.
*wink*
I'd say if no one actually learns that Jesse is risen from the dead / has a demon living in his soul, maybe during the first combat we get into something will make it obvious.
However if you truly want to sniff around me more I'd think some kind of Notice Roll might be in order.
He's not evil. But the demon in him is
PS. Beretta, I love the cancer idea.

Hey Jesse...so Deez has Detect Arcana with the mega-enhancement, that lets her get a lot of information about creatures of magic that she scans on a raise. And she automatically raises with it.
So I wanted to bring up the idea that...and this is totally up to you...if you wanted to have a 'reveal,' then that would be one possible avenue for it to happen.

depending on the size of the ferry and the width of the river, I think Jessie is thinking a little small on the difficulty of getting the ferry across the river.

Yeah,
Not to act on ooc info but I think that ferry can move vehicles, so it's probably pretty heavy, but the GB pulling from the bottom could help too.

He's odd for sure. Detecting Arcana on him seems reasonable.
Jesse is dead. He has zero PP. He is possessed by a demon.
If you were to really smell him you might detect he is dead (dog boy) but keep in mind he drinks booze to mask the smell, to "pickle" himself, to cover the smell up.
I am not trying to hide being dead so I have no problem if its figured out.
_________________________________________________________________________________
Alternate post that might work better:
__________________________________________________________________________________
As the others talk about how to get the ferry and converse with each other Jesse takes off his armored hat, hands it to Norona, winks and says, "I'll be right back. Going to scout out the other shore then come right back."
Jesse walks into the water, sinking below the water, disappears from sight. Makes his way to the other side and scouts around some.
Notice Roll 1d6+2 = 5:
3
Wild Die for Notice 1d6 = 1:
1
Assuming nothing bad happens he walks along underwater back to the Posse and reports his finding to Norona and takes his hat back.
---------------------------------
Sound better? Failed Notice roll so didn't see anything anyway...

Psychich Sense: Dog Boys have the inherent ability to detect arcana, interpreting it as a scent. They use the Notice skill (with their Keen Sense of Smell bonus) to detect the presence and location of psychic or magic energies, beings, or items. They can also use the Tracking skill (also with the Keen Sense of Smell bonus) to follow a specific magical or psionic entity. This sense works to detect anything psychic, magic, or supernatural, including invisible and astral beings. Psychic Sense doesn’t work inside sealed armor or vehicles. Cybernetic implants also cause problems; every point of Strain imposes a −1 penalty when the Dog Boy uses his Psychic Sense (the Cyber-Psychic Alignment Edge can negate this penalty). See sidebar on page 60.
Inevitably he's going to notice.

And nobody's made a stink of it yet
He just hasn't specifically advertised his nature. Really, Beretta is in the dark because IC, she would have no reason to suspect anything. She has no formal knowledge of magic in general, let alone something as exotic as a harrowed. I figure people ascertain their environment based off of past experience - which in her case is just plain old medicine.
I'm playing it off like the country yokel she is. That, and mainly I just wanted to have a bit of fun with the harrowed concept. It's fun to find ways to incorporate little foibles with the post-apocalyptic nature of Rifts, it makes it seem more exotic and meaningful when you get to toy around with ignorance, and a certain absence of modern convenience.
That and we have the luxury of mulling over our posts. I have a jolly good time giving people multiple angles to work with, having someone in the dark about his undead nature will inevitably lead to some fun interaction between Jesse and Beretta (and potentially anyone else who already noticed, or just didn't look too much into it). It gives a little umph to the character choice beyond the mechanical aspect when you're able to find something novel about a character to extrapolate.
I honestly try to work in a little something for everyone, it makes it more engaging for me personally.
Also - I think the edit you proposed is reasonable Jesse.

likewise Conrad doesn't know much on magic stuff except for vampires and he figures the legion would have checked that, but it colours his perception.

going back and rereading the post where we arrive for the ferry, the GM has edited the post to point out it is 3000 feet wide, so we definitely don't have enough rope for that

Sum'bitch, that's my second failed Notice roll, do NOT rely on Jesse to be watch.
Them rolls better get better once I start throwing iron around, 'cause ya know we are due for some bad guys arriving. Just know, I won't see them coming. Ha.
If'n I was alive and not a deader I'd think I was drunk.
Re: Out of Character Chatter
Being Harrowed, let’s just say it’s got its ups and downs. When the lead, lasers and fire bolts starts flying, being already dead will be handy, but on the other hand, people will catch on that Jesse is actually a walking corpse if he shrugs off damage and regenerated body parts.Beretta Le Rouge wrote:And nobody's made a stink of it yet

Realizing JD is dead: A Harrowed’s “death wound” is healed on resurrection, but always leaves some scar or deformity. Jesse was hung to death (oh my, why? story for another day). Harrowed are not left so disfigured that they’re instantly recognizable as undead—that would defeat the manitou’s (inner demon) purpose. Jesse wears bandanas and flips his collar up, wears armor, things like that to conceal his wound.
Additionally, the living dead have wan, ashen skin. Since the manitous sustain their bodies, they don’t rot, but they don’t smell like roses either. Anyone who gets close to a Harrowed picks up the smell of decay with a Notice roll. Hence Jesse tends to keep his distance from others. Things like, I'll be up in the gunner seat, not down in the main room with others.
A Harrowed can “pickle” themself for a day or so by drinking a quart of liquor. Other possibilities are certain herbs or perfumes that may mask the scent. JD does seem to have a taste for Whiskey.
Animals can always tell, no matter what.
Eventually one of you will Notice.
And that's fine.
As long as Jesse is in control he is a "good guy".
The Manitou on the other hand.....
If it comes to that friends, Head Shots are the way to go.

okay, so I am at close range with the murder wraith, not across the river so an 11 should be enough to hit him and ignoring his armour, 17 damage should hurt the murder wraith.Capt. Murdok wrote:The Armor is not sealed.

Re: Out of Character Chatter
Hang on a second
A boom gun has range 250/500/1000
That means that a GB on the near side can fire on targets on the far side at -2.
Which means I can drop Smite on one GB, and it can just plant and start artillery fire from where it is.
That will cost me...a turn, I think, with a decent multiple action to stunt the Smite and then cast it. And then a turn of movement lost because I have to double back to do it.
That'll leave me desperately short on mana by the time I reach the far bank but it'll give us a BOOM gun capable of hurting the Wraith almost immediately!
Man, so sorry I missed this! I'm not nearly 100% on system mastery for Savage Worlds, let alone the rulesset for Rifts.

No worries, I think everyone is still making greenhorn mistakes.
There's been a few times so far where I totally had some of the mechanics wrong, I honestly have been cracking open my Deluxe Edition just to double check everything before each post now. Sometimes if there's something obscure I'll hop on the PEG boards and look for their canon FAQ.
It's incredibly extensive - so if there's ever something unclear in the main rules, or any of the supported settings, chances are you can find it answered on their forum. It's a great resource, and none of the threads are very long either. The admin usually gets back within a few posts.

Probably the Command Edge, maybe brush up on some skill die.
I was originally going to start off with Command but I figured Marksman was too good to pass up.
Ironically many of the combat edges aren't really the greatest for a GB unless you want to take a more melee focused approach. There's no iconic edges for them either, so you actually have a good bit of freedom to focus on skills, etc.
