Cory gives the crowd a nod, "We're totally on this, don't worry."

The mystery of these creatures is intriguing. She has to figure this out. She closes her eyes and sees if she can identify this type of zombie not zombie. But when the option to take a subterranean ride with Merl arises, such studios activities go straight out the door.

"Totally, let's go!" Cory says grabbing on to Merl's wing, she blindly follows the juvenile dragon without a second thought. Well, the second thought is, This is totally sweet!

Down Under
As the zombies go up in smoke the team quickly leaps into action to figure out what the heck just happened. Scanning the area, particularly the rooftops for any sign of another faction, Lail sees nothing unusual - except of course for the gaggle of crows that seem to be omnipresent in this town.

The only one to acknowledge the crowd is Cory, who gives them a pithy reassurance before grabbing hold of Merlaggon’s wings. Barely even taking the time to look at the two men he sheltered, Merlaggon bolts for the construction site. Most of the rest of the team follow the rambunctious dragon in the Q-Mobile or on foot. As he moves down the street, Timothy scans for invisible foes or unusual readings. Nothing sticks out at him.

Fortunately, Gale loves a good audience and begins to reassure them talking about how he was happy to save them, and they have nothing to fear because he is on the case.

At the site, Merlaggon begins his flaming burrow deep into the ground with Corey in tow. There are no caverns, caves, or tunnels beneath the site. Just rock and dirt. There are many layers of rock and soil, as that which was levelled by the cataclysm was covered by years of build up during the dark ages. There is the definitely sense of magic down below the dark age layer, and even deeper, to perhaps hundreds of years before the Golden Age. Something buried deep in the ground that has an ancient and deep enchantment. To Corey it feels very much like holy ground.

After their deep dive the pair emerge. Meanwhile, the whole town is awake and beginning to gather. The Sherif and deputies are none to please about the use of heavy arms and explosives inside the city. Walcott is aghast, likely seeing any potential trade deal go down the toilet. The chief and Mukuroo are also approaching, although looks as much quizzical as angry.

It’s Walcott who speaks first, “Sergeant Fell, what the hell is going on?”

Cory tries to reach Fell before he goes off and ad libs. "Fell, look, like, this totally felt like holy ground. I don't know, like exactly, that means, this stuff isn't like precise, you know. Just a feeling, I mean, that's pretty much good as fact from, like, mystic, you know, right? Anyway, like thought it might be good for you to like, know. Or whatever." Then she stomps off a ways off and is torn between telling Mukuroo what she's found, since that seems like the most honest thing to do. But also feels like the worst thing to do, like throwing match on gasoline. She turns and apprehensively watches Fell's response. And the rest of the SET, who knows what any of them will do.

Wicked Lail
Wicked Queen Lail.jpg
The Crows will die tonight, or I will die trying to kill them all. From her vantage point Lail opens fire at the crows trying to down as many as possible. None will live tonight while I draw breath! She hits her comms, her voice is cold and callous " I'll take care of these murdering flapping bastards. You guys deal with the pathetic humans that dare call this place home." You cannot hide from me pretty little thing, your doom is near. She rapidly leaps off the building tucking into a nice roll going after the murder of crows.
She wanders the town shooting and slashing any crows she can find, and then she cocks her head " where are you coming from? Where is your roost?
She pauses taking care to scout the birds locations. She begins to whisper in a voice filled with hatred,

"Come, buy my bags full of crumbs;
Come feed the little birds,
Show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do
The young ones are hungry
The nests are so bare
All it takes is tuppence from you"

  • Fell raises a finger up and is about to speak totally ad lib. He holds on a second as Cory says: "Fell, look, like, this totally felt like holy ground. I don't know, like exactly, what that means, this stuff isn't like precise, you know. Just a feeling, I mean, that's pretty much good as fact from, like, mystic, you know, right? Anyway, like thought it might be good for you to like, know. Or whatever."

Fell processes Cory's statement, pulls all the "likes" out and ponders a moment on her words.

Fell raises an eyebrow, again about to speak, then Lail goes on her shooting rampage verse the local crows.

Lail radios:"I'll take care of these murdering flapping bastards. You guys deal with the pathetic humans that dare call this place home." At least that was via radio and no one should have heard that but the 1st. By all the Gods!

A grimace comes across the Juicer's face. Crap.

Fell thinks rapidly, the bad guys are targeting the workers...Cory says they come from below...this is holy ground...there is magic under the ground here....hmmm...Mukuroo seems to think the baddies are - what...vengeful spirits...so it comes down to the dig is on holy site and that pissed off some creatures.

Doing his best to ignore Lail, Fell steps up to Mukuroo and loudly says, "Listen here. The Dig Site is located on Holy Ground! The Evil creatures that have been attacking are angered because of this! The construction site must be filled back in and if a new one is to be built it must be in a non Holy place and .. yeah, like...that."

Damn it!! I sound like, like Cory. Gah.

Fell says, "We can help jump start the dig, Merl is a fast digger. But I suggest the Elders here, not me Cory, I saw you raise an eye brow, The Elders from Here and the NG reps talk and decide on a new spot to dig."

"Now. If you will excuse me."

Steeling his nerves the Juicer turns and follows Lail.

Across the Radio: "Um, Lail? Stop?"

Sinder makes sure the two civilians are safe and then heads toward Fell he greets the elders and the chief first then nods to Mukwooru. He listens to Fell and Cory. When he gets a chance he speaks up, “Elders can you tell us anything about this place? And suggest a possible Idea about a building and location?”

"I am surprise they didn't do this first, unless NG knew there was something down below?" "Mukwooru do you have a suggestion, one that will support building a spot here?"

With no results from is scanning, Timothy hates that there is nothing to shoot at. Lail becomes a public nuisance with her desire to kill crows.
" I'll take care of these murdering flapping bastards. You guys deal with the pathetic humans that dare call this place home."
Timothy contemplates on her actions. Okay, so she doesn't like birds. Who really does anyways, and she's willing to achieve her mission at all costs. She would make an outstanding Soldier if she wasn't so bat shit crazy. Unfortunately, she is potentially risking the mission and my mission isn't to disrupt, but to observe and report. With a deep sigh TImothy starts to walk over to Lail. "Lail, Stand down. That is an order. You are risking the success of this mission and I will not allow it. You have 10 seconds to comply." I hate crazies.

State: Getting it Together
Lail's ramage through the town gunning and slicing every crow she can find is cut short by Fell and Timothy's call on the radio.
SD_Wicked Queen in Command, Man of metal and toxic blood approach rapidly. Out of concern? Nay they bring more targets!

She quickly reacts to their chase, stopping on a dime and with her rifle in one hand opens fire above their heads shooting a line of crows that would have surely been a threat to Timothy and Fell. But she misses one that may have flown off leaving a small token on Timothy's shiny head. Cooley she looks around with her red blazing eyes.
" The filthy villagers wish this to stop, then all crows must met with death." Her eyes flutter for a moment and her face his her's diminutive and unnasuming. The eyes of her father seem to be looking back at the two men.

Softly she says, " No I am free... I am not there anymore... I am sorry. Lail drops the blade on the ground, and walks away. As she passes Fell and Timothy she looks at them with tears in her eyes, " What did they do to me? You cannot trust me with blade, Qoat gave it to me... I- I am not my father, I do not deserve such a weapon." She walks to the throng of folks where the zombies were, keeping her head on a swivel wary of a demon attack.

When Lail grabs the woman, Timothy tenses up and ready his rail gun. Not the right weapon, but it's in my hand right now. Timothy is ready to pull the trigger and targets on Lails head in single shot mode. "Target Lail head. Single shot mode engaged. Ready to take the shot." The time that Lail takes the hostage is tense. Timothy is stopped, steady and ready to shoot on a dime. The mini-rail gun is raised up to his shoulder, his head on the butt of the weapon looking down the sights of the weapon. This arms are expertly placed on the weapon to provide the most stability and control of the weapon, the mechanical arms engaged that if someone wanted to imagine Timothy with skin, he would have bulging muscles and sweat glistening on his arms from the strain of holding it up.

Lail releases the woman from her hold and drops her weapons, Timothy maintains his target on her until she walks up to him. Timothy will lower his rail gun and look at her when she speaks. As she walks towards the group, Timothy will engage the radio. "Q, secure Lail and put her in the Q mobile for her safety and everyone else." Timothy walks to the woman to ensure she is okay. This is why I hate crazy people.

If the woman allows Timothy to approach her, he will kneel to make himself more approachable. Timothy will look at the wound, "Good news is it's just a scratch, You might want to see our medic to make sure it doesn't get infected. If they have a problem with it, tell them to talk to me. Timothy Hernandez, 2nd in command of the 1st SET. I'll set them straight, and i'm sorry this happened." Timothy will stand up and retrieve the sword for storage.

"Sword is secured. injury is minimal, directed victim to team medic." Timothy will walk back towards the Q mobile to secure the sword. Once at the Q mobile and the sword is secured, Timothy will ensure that Lail is secured safely. "Lail, we will need to talk about this. Until then, stay here." Timothy will approach Fell and listen the discussion in-progress.

In the Q-Mobile, he sits her down on one of the benches in the back and grabs a couple cans of carbonated juices. Holding out the cans, the Quick-Flex asks "What do you want? I've got lemonade and apple juice."

Once she's distracted with the drink, he takes the blade back outside and up the front and slides it back in the concealed contained under the pilot's seat before hoping back in.

The Crazy Train (Lail, Tim, Qooat, Gale)
Fearless and furious, Lail manages to cut a large number of crows before they get wise and fly well out of range of her blade. On the ground, sliced in two, they look like normal birds. As the feathery, bloodied, bodies pile up the area begins to look like some sort of satanic ritual gone bad. When some bystanders come by to see what the problem is Lail turns on them and the 1st SET goes into action to contain her.

Timothy manages to disarm Lail and Qooat rolls up with his ATV. They whisk her into the back but the screaming woman has already attracted attention. The local deputy that Tim met the previous day walks up to the back of the ATV.

“Listen, I know you guys stopped a couple of murders just now. But you’re people can’t be harming our citizens. She’s going to have to come down to the station and face the elders.”

As the deputy is talking Gale swoops in to assist the woman, talking to her with his normal bluster. Whatever he is saying seems to calm her down quite a bit.

Holy Ground! (Fell, Cory, Sinder, Merl)
When Fell passes on the information that the construction site sits on Holy Ground, Mukuroo is surprised. “We have many holy sites passed down from our grandmothers and grandfatherrs, but I have not heard of one out here.”

Quanah, the chief sighs, “If this is indeed the resting place of our ancestors, then the outpost cannot be built here.” The chief is interrupted by a blustering Northern Gun representative but holds up his hand to silence the man, “If we must renegotiate with your elders, so be it. For now, we must put the spirits at ease.”

Merlaggon jumps on Cory’s suggestion to fill the site back in, even offering to help. However, Mukuroo seems uncertain. “Vengeful spirits are not always easily appeased. A ritual may be needed, or worse.” He purses his lips for a moment, “There is one grandmother who may know more, but she is not well. We should ask her in the morning.”

Nodding, the chief looks to the 1st SET “You have caused quite a commotion but also found out something important. For now, these two issues balance one another out. Go to your residence and rest. Tomorrow we will figure out what to do.”
What Next
Okay TL:DR version:
  1. Lail is going to spend the night in jail unless Tim/Qooat intervene. You’ll have to decide what to do there.
  1. Mukuroo knows someone who might know something and will gather clues in the morning.
  1. You are being sent home to rest. Those who need sleep make a fear check at -2. If you fail write a post describing your worst nightmare and suffer one level of fatigue. If the same thing happened last night, you take another level of fatigue.

Lail sips the beverage Qaot offered her. " Thank you Qaot, this is soothing.". Lail seems troubled and speaks softly to him, " I almost killed a woman tonight, in front of her children. I did not see her, instead it was a huge bulbous red demon thing in her place.". The 16 year old diminutive elf looks at him with doe shaped tearful eyes, " Did you know I am 46? 30 or so years of my life were spent away from my papa in the hands of true tormentors." She brushes back her hair reveling her 13 MOM implants. " They did this to me so I could survive their torture." She takes another sip and lets out a heavy sigh, " Actions speak louder than any words... Sayeen would have said that yes?"
Lail strips off her gear removing her armor and weapons, down to just her undergarments. Her back and midriff show signs of a multitude of scars healed over decade by decade. " Take care of this gear for me, it's all I have, oh I think Timothy has your blade... I just am not my father." She kisses Qaot on the cheek and steps out into the night without anything save a small amount of clothing.

She nods to Fell and Timothy, " Its best this way. I need to be the soldier our Timothy is. When I return, Timothy I ask you to train me to be hard. To much pain dwells in my breast, I believe you can help me carve it out."

Lail laughs as she sees Merlaggon playing in the dirt, " Stay free Dragon, follow your heart.". Just before she heads to jail she hugs Corey and whispers" Take care of them Moon."

Lail heads to jail and sleeps.

As usual, Cory is a bit aloof to the situation, more precisely she acts as if she doesn't care. But she does. She is freaked out by Lail's behavior. The young woman (in appearance at least) needing containment and subsequently being jailed is incredibly distressing to Cory. Mukuroo's hints that something more may be required to ameliorate the spirits is troubling as well. She is, as is becoming the case more and more often, comforted by Merlaggon's unflagging optimism. That he's nearly indestructible is comforting too.

"Mukuroo, I can call on Moon to aid in healing, if that would help this elder woman you speak off," Cory offers. (She tried very hard to speak properly, seeing that this was a time for respect not normally given to many people.)

She seeks out Fell, believe it or not. When she finds him, she tries to look stern and dismissive at the same time, but says, "Like, okay, so I don't think we should like leave this place unguarded, you know, like the whole night. I mean, like I could watch it for a while, but I kinda, like, I don't know, like it would be good to rest, I maybe used a bunch of magic. Like not all of it, for sure. But still. I mean, whatever."

As soon as she gets any sort of answer she darts away in a swirl of robes. Cory hangs out with Merl, or maybe even Mukuroo discussing what the construction site could be since it's not one of their known holy sites. She is intrigued by their magic tradition and would enjoy discussing it, if Mukuroo or someone else is willing. She still doesn't really like the guy, but she pretends to not like everyone, so it really doesn't matter.

Qoat looks at the MOM implants, She got them to ensure torture, by Qoz's nimble fingers! "Lail, torture alone can drive people crazy, but those implants guarantee it. I think it would help us to know how those implants have affected you mentally. Are you able to tell us? Can you tell the difference between reality and fantasy?"

He watches her strip down, not embarrassed simply because, no human can be as sexy as a Quick-Flex, but as he sees her going out into the night, he says, "Stop Lail." He gets a coat and hands it to her. "It may get cold." I'll be parked outside waiting for you.

Qoat moves the Q-mobile to the town's pokey, and then settles in to get some sleep.

Qoat attempts to get comfortable up in the driver's seat his feet stretched over to the seat next to his. His mind takes a while to settle down before he drifts off.
Another Nightmare wrote: Qoat get's the call from his squad's leader. "Qoat, get your ass up here. Thompson's SAMAS has taken a hit and has gone down a click away in a small ravine. You and Fredericks are going out there to get him. fix the SAMAS if you can and get him combat effective."

"Yes Sir," Qoat says. I am no front line combatant. This guy is going to get me killed, Qoat frowns and curses as he picks up his tool kit. He finds Fredericks on a hovercycle floating a few inches above the ground and gets on the back.

They race across the battlefield, zig-zagging to avoid enemy fire. Literal fire as a pair of fire elementals rain destruction down. They make it to the ravine. Looking down they see Thompson, his helmet off, the right wing slagged. Qoat hops off and slides down the embankment with his tool kit. He sets to work examining the damage.

A rumble occurs. It gets louder, then a being of rock separates from the cliff face. "An earth elemental!" Thompson screams. Qoat spins and fires the short range laser on his arm, but it just creates a shower of sparks. The elemental reaches down into the ground and pulls. As it does the ravine closes on the two of them.

Qoat scrambles to climb, but slides back down, the sun light quickly disappears as the rock encloses him. He tries to move, and his arms and legs move feebly under the pressure of the rock. His armor protects him from being crushed, but....

He's been buried, unable to move....alive. No, no, NO!!!!!! Qoat screams wordlessly in his own mind.
Qoat awakes and finds himself wedged under the front seats of the Q-mobile, he's shaking and sweating in his armor. It takes him a minute to twist his body around to find the slide bar to push the seats back far enough to get out. He sits back in his seat, exhausted, taking no comfort in seeing dawn's rosy fingers.

Fell eyes one of the "taller" building in the proximity. Seeing Cory approach he nods as she speaks:

"Like, okay, so I don't think we should like leave this place unguarded, you know, like the whole night. "Oh yes good point my lady. I was just eyeing a place to roost. I have no time for rest. I will be up there tonight keeping guard over all that is below. Death is calling and he wants me to close my eyes, this gives me a chance to keep them open tonight with purpose. Please go tell Tim to escort Lail to jail. Be careful, rest well."

Watching her darts away in a swirl of robes Fell grins and cranks up the dial on his bio comp. With annoyance he wipes away blood from his nose.

Doing his best to ignore Lail, Fell steps up to Mukuroo and loudly says, "Listen here. The Dig Site is located on Holy Ground! The Evil creatures that have been attacking are angered because of this! The construction site must be filled back in and if a new one is to be built it must be in a non Holy place and .. yeah, like...that."

, "We can help jump start the dig, Merl is a fast digger. But I suggest the Elders here, not me Cory, I saw you raise an eye brow, The Elders from Here and the NG reps talk and decide on a new spot to dig."
Sinder listens he is worried about Lail, “She is not all there something is definitely wrong. I has to be those implants and her ordeal about being captured by demons.”

Timothy listens to the Deputy, standing there with his arms crossed. With a deep breath, he looks at the Q mobile. "I understand completely. Please just give us a minute or two, I need to speak with the Sargent." Timothy calls Fell over the radio. "Fell, please come to the Q-Mobile. We need to talk right now." Once Fell comes to the Q mobile, Timothy will speak in low tones and brings fell out of earshot of the Deputy. "The Deputy wants to take Lail in for the assault. It might be the best place for the time being. If she doesn't sleep well again, who knows what will happen? You and the rest of the team need rest, I'll escort her and make sure everything is fine." If fell does not object, Timothy will approach the deputy. "Let me escort her, and stay the night with her. If anything happens, I can respond quickly." If the Deputy has no issues with Timothy's request, he'll proceed to Lail.

"Lail, the deputy is here to take you. I'll walk and stay with you tonight."
She nods to Fell and Timothy, " Its best this way. I need to be the soldier our Timothy is. When I return, Timothy I ask you to train me to be hard. To much pain dwells in my breast, I believe you can help me carve it out."
"Discipline is the first lesson. It is a lesson you will learn tonight." Timothy will allow brief good nights. "Your going not going to be there forever, lets go." Timothy will escort Lail with the Deputy to the jail. Once in the jail and Lail is secured, Timothy will pull up a chair and sit near the bars. Once settled in Timothy will look into the cell. "I can't begin to understand what you were thinking. I know you miss your father, there is no set time for your grief, but you can not take that grief on other people. You can't carve the pain out. That is what makes you human, err elf. You need to fight whatever demons are tormenting you. If they where right here right now, they would be easy for us to help you. We could kill it, we could hold it down as you destroy it. We don't have the time or the places to train you correctly. Nodding at Timothy Fell says, "You are doing a damned fine job as Second. I like your tenacity. I wholeheartedly approve of you spending the night with Lail, thank you Tim. I will be staying awake tonight, perched up there...." Fell points at a tall building. "....I will keep an eye open for trouble. I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight."

Pulling a cloth out of his pocket the Juicer wipes a few fresh drops of blood from his nose and grumbles.

"Carry on Sergent Hernandez. Your conduct and care for this team is commendable."

Abruptly turning away from the Cyborg, Fell moves quickly off towards the building he plans to perch up on. He wipes more blood away as he half sprints off.

Did I just say something odd? Spend the night with...?

Lail sits across from Timothy with the bars between them. She listens with rapped attention to what the Moral Compass of the 1st is telling her. Such compassion! She shivers slightly realizing she is hardly wearing anything. She grabs the blanket on the cot she is sitting on and wraps it around her. She wipes her elven eyes and reaches through the bars taking Timothy's hand if allowed. Softly she responds, " I barely remember my father... All I have are fleeting images." She smiles kindly, " My mind is filled with songs, countless... I must have watched old videos over and over... It is when I sing I remember him the most." She turns and sits with her back against the bars, her long hair flowing in between the bars. " Do you know how to braid hair? My father used to braid mine when I was little... I think I used to find it calming." Lail makes a motion with her fingers explaining the braiding motions to Timothy. She laughs a bit," Just don't tie my hair to the bars."
After a couple of moments letting she continues while huddling on the floor, " Sinder's father Mr. Baron he never gave up on me... He said my papa didn't either-"
She careens her neck looking up at Timothy with a bit of anger she says, " You said we could kill my demons. I know the cave, where the rift to their domain lies... Sinder's father would know the leyline to get us to the cave. If you are serious, promise me after this Silver run, we go after those bastards... We make Mr. Baron take us to the leyline where he found me. I know where that cave is! We can open the rift and carve those demons out!"
She turns back around closing her eyes, " You promise. I promise to be a soldier... But you have to train me." In a few moments, exhausted, Lail soon is fast asleep.

Before heading to sleep, Cory stops by to check in Lail. She has no idea what to say or do for the crazy elf person. It feels like the right thing to do to just check in, at the least.

Timothy is the first thing Cory sees in the jail. His bulk posted right next to the bars is intimidating. Quietly approaching, she tries not to disturb or startle Lail. The last thing Cory wants is to send Lail off into another fit.

"Lail, like, uh, I hope you're like doing better now," Cory says. But she thinks, crap, that was so lame. She places one of her hands on the bars and tries to smile at the other woman. "Like, I'm not going far, so, you know, Tim can probably get me if you like need anything, right."

"Cory, why did Lail threaten that lady with that magical sword, and why was she so set on attacking those ravens? Sayeen also acted a bit unusually... with Sinder also start acting weird too? Do I dig in the dirt again today? After yesterday, I think it would be boring to do it again."

" Hey Moon." Lail's eyes flutter open looking up at Corey. " You look just like my older sister. Did Papa every tell you that?". Overnight Vigil
After a flurry of information exchange, people begin to go their separate ways. Mukuroo genuinely thanks Cory for her offer of intercession, but shakes his head “Nothing much can help grandmother. Unless you can turn back time.”

At the prison, the team visits with Lail. SInder, Cory, and Merlaggon pay their respects before heading to sleep. Timothy sits with Lail while Qoat keeps watch outside, sleeping in his ATV. At the construction site Fell keeps an eye out for the return of the dead. But all remains quiet

Morning Sunshine
The next morning the group assembles again, the chief has managed to get Lail out on a day pass until the council can rule over her case. Mukuroo meets them and gives a little backstory while they walk toward a very old section of Fort Comanche. “Long before the Golden Age, my people and the founders of the American Empire were often at war. The Spirits took many of our people out of time, to protect them from being wiped out. When they returned, the American Empire had crumbled and we learned to live on our ol land - but with new rules.” He points to some of the older structures, wooden clapboard buildings and huts made of skins, “Much of this came back when the spirits released our people from time. Grandmother is one of the last from that generation. As the generations davance many people forget. But when we forget the old ways we lose a piece of ourselves.”
History
Those with Knowledge History may be able to piece together that he is speaking about the 1700s and 1800s when colonists often were in conflict with natives.
Arriving and an old house the group enters, an elderly woman is being attended to by a young nurse. Although the old gal seems to have a lot of energy as she refuses whatever it is the nurse is offering her. When the group enters the old woman, half deaf, shouts at Mukuroo, “Spirit Talker, who are all these outsiders you brought to me? You know I don’t trust them!”

Speaking softly and respectfully the young shaman explains their findings to the old woman. She breathes in slowly, then appears to fall asleep for a moment before coming back to alertness, “You have not uncovered a burial ground, but a prison.” Speaking softly she gives a little history lesson, “In the wars before the wars, during the times of my grandmothers, shamans would unleash terrible magics to fight their rivals. They would bind the darkest warriors to their earth, so they would not die but relentlessly pursue their enemies. Haunting their sleep and stalking them at night. You could run, but eventually fear and exhaustion would kill you even if the ghost warrior did not.” She takes a moment to look at the group, “It appears they are now set on you.”

Grandmother groans heavily as she rises from her chair and rifles through some belongings, producing a small pouch ted off with a leather thong, “ Killing the warriors only offers a temporary reprieve.” She holds up her little pouch, “This is a medicine bag. One like it binds each of the ghost warriors to this earth. To truly be rid of them you must find the medicine bag that binds them here and burn it.”

Fell leaves his rifle and sword outside. Stepping forward he bows to the Grandmother. With his hands held down to his sides non threatening he keeps his head tilted down.

"Grandmother I respectfully ask if there is a way to detect these bags locations? Obviously I am not a Spell caster and I ask of you, who could help us? We have tried to protect your people. Can you also assist us? Anything on where to look? Thank you."

Qoat falls the team into the elder's home and listens to her explain that the undead are tied to the world by a medicine bag. Still a bit groggy from a terrible nights sleep, it takes him a few extra minutes of cognition to catch up on what she is saying and then have a spark of an idea When she's finished speaking, he asks, holding out his hand, "May I look at it?"

Qoat takes the bag gently into his hand and slowly massages it to get a feel of the texture. He holds it up to his nose slits and breathes deeply, coughing slightly from whatever is inside. So if we find these, we will most likely find them and/or whatever is controlling them, Qoat thinks.

"I may have an idea on how to find these things,"
Qoat says. "I'll be out at the Q-Mobile so I can figure out if my idea will work."

Qoat goes into the Q-Mobile and starts looking at the various spare parts and salvage that he's accumulated. He finds a pair of goggles with one lense missing, and then part of a head's display from a rifle scope. He takes the pieces back to his work space and begins assembling them together. He pulls out a small circuit board and power supply and attaches it to the side where the scope is replacing the broken lens. "Hmm, if this works, this might make sense as a permanent device." Qoat muses.

Finally after [dice]0[/dice] minutes of concentration, he holds up his creation to admire.

Qoat's Googles of Seeking 15/15 I.S.P.

Desired Trapping(s): A pair of goggles where one lens has been replaced with a scope. The right lens activates the mega power allowing the wear to use one or more senses to observe something outside of normal perception. The left lens (the scope) activates the standard power, but instead of showing the person, place or thing, it projects a path to the location of the desired target visible to the wearer of the goggles overlaying the actual terrain.

CLAIRVOYANCE
  • Rank: Seasoned
  • Power Points: 3+
  • Range: Varies
  • Duration: 3 (1/round)
  • Clairvoyance allows the caster to sense people, places, and things outside of normal perception. The Range varies depending on the Arcane skill roll. A success gives the caster a Range equal to her Spirit×10 in miles, and a raise increases that to Spirit×100 miles. Walls, doors, and other barriers do not hamper clairvoyance in any way, though magical barriers may block it at the GM’s discretion. While it’s active, the user of this power can shift the point of observation to anywhere within her Range as a free action. When using clairvoyance, the caster chooses a single sense (usually sight) to project. For each additional 1 PP she spends at casting, she may add an additional sense; this does not affect maintenance costs.
CLAIRVOYANCE–WORLD SCRY
  • Power Points: 6+
  • Range: Varies
  • Duration: 3 (1/round)
  • The Mega Power version of clairvoyance increases the Range to Spirit×1,000 miles. A raise increases that to anywhere on the planet. It costs 6 Power Points, +1 per additional sense the caster wishes to project.
He takes them back in to show the team. "If this works as I intend, it should allow the wearer to figure out where the medicine bags are stored."

Lail stretches out waking up on the cold floor at the crack of dawn. A bit of blood oozes from her nose, and she wipes it off absently with the back of her hand. Lail yawns and stands in front of Timothy wrapping the blanket around her for warmth. After being let out on a " Day Pass" she eagerly she starts yammering to Timmothy, " So whats first Timothy? Stretches? A Run? Meditation? Maybe I should put on my clothes?" Lail will stop at the Q-mobile and gather her gear, putting it on.
" Thanks Qoat for watching my stuff, I got a feeling this day is going to be great." She goes back outside and stands at attention in front of Timothy awaiting whatever instructions he might give her for a early morning routine.

After the meeting, Lail takes care of what is important. She hugs Cory tightly, " Morning Moon! Thanks for coming to see me last night." Lail lowers her voice slightly to Cory, " If you really are going to help heal me when we carve my demons. We need to work on Sinder to get us to his father. I think his father would know where he found me... I just don't remember... But I will always remember how to get to the cave with the portal that leads to their vile home." Lail smiles again at Cory and heads to Qoat interested in what he is building.
" Qoat that is super cool. Some kind of goggles? Hey, I think my armor has something sort of like that. Maybe I can walk the town or spots you find worth checking out, and see if there is something hidden that lies just beyond normal vision."

"And at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different

Timothy sits by Lail all night. After Lail gets dressed and stands at attention, Timothy will put her to the test starting off. Timothy will stand there staring in silence. The goal of this test to see if she is able to stand still and be quiet for 5 minutes. If she is able to show some measure of self control then she does have potential. If not, I don't know what to do. Once the 5 minutes is up if Lail is able to stand still and question "That's a good start, We have a meeting to go to."

If lail is not able to stand still and quiet for the 5 minutes. "You have much to learn. We have a team meeting, lets go."

Timothy will lead Lail to the team meeting and listen to the discussion. Once at the old woman house, With an introduction like that, They should have been wiped out. With the realization that there could be something bigger beneath the ground Timothy is concerned they don't have enough fire power. "Why don't we just destroy the source of all this?"

Sinder arrives at the old house. His first view is of the young nurse, he wonders if she is related to the elderly lady or is some one that has been assigned to the elderly lady. Then he thinks back the way of the Native Americans is extended family. He wonders if the young nurse is a granddaughter or maybe even a great granddaughter.

He then listens to the Shaman but looks at the elderly lady.

Sinder thinks, “We have the fire we just need to locate the location deep under the ground. I doubt the warriors carried the medicine bag with them when they come to attack.”
He looks at the others as they talk and form a plan. Sinder wants to speak up so he does, ”I think we should do this sooner than later, they seem to have more power at night.”

The old woman fascinates Cory. She is at the end of her life and innately in touch with the spirits. That is something Cory aspires to. She nods, the explanation seems logical, and discovering the nature of threat makes it seem simple to accomplish. She inspects the bag, looking at the material. "Ma'am, like, what's in the bag?" she asks. After a good examination she says, "Thank you for your help, Spirit Talker, like, I think we can like you know accomplish, like, burning these bags."

When Fell asks who can locate the bags. She glares at him. "You, like know, I can do that, right? Like maybe you noticed I know some magic stuff, right? Yeah?"

"During the day, like, yeah, that sounds pretty much like the best idea," Cory says. "Like, let's go!"

If they head out to construction site, she looks around and tries to spy anything suspicious or magical. Then she sits down and asks the spirits, Are the spirit bags here?

Sinder Smiles at Cory and nods his head. "I think she understands I don't need these guys out and setting up an Ambush for me at knight."

Sinder follows Cory and the others and he thinks the how and the who. "So Cory can find the bag , Merl can dig, Qoat can do his thing with those gadgets. We have fire from at least 3 sources."

Grandma’s Cooking
When Cory speaks to her Grandmother grabs the mystic’s arm with a surprisingly firm grip, “The bags contain bad medicine. No doubt bones of evil creatures, perhaps even human remains. When you burn them you must release the spirits to final rest.” She motions Cory in closer and whispers a few words in an unknown language, “Be sure to say it. They deserve their rest too.”

Under Construction
After a quick de-brief of the meeting at Grandmother’s, Mukuroo definitely believes the medicine bags are buried somewhere in the construction site. The team agrees and begins to formulate a plan, Qoat builds a set of goggles to assist in the work, while Cory and Merlaggon identify likely places based on their previous dig. The big guns, prepare to provide security. No doubt the ghosts won’t be happy that someone is trying to burn their final connection to this world.

At the site, Cory begins searching. Crows, dozens of them, flock to the site and begin cawing in an incredible cacophony of noise. While they caw and circle, the ghosts appear hell bent on stopping Cory.

Map
Action Sequence
On your turn you may either assist with the dramatic task or try to hold off the Angry Ghosts. Gale will help with the search and Cory can roll for his cooperative roll.

Dramatic Task: Locate & Destroy The Medicine Bags
5 successes required, drawing a club creates a complication providing an additional -2 penalty. Failure on the dramatic task means the bags weren’t found and the search will have to start over. The ghosts will reanimate each time.
  • Primary: Cory
    Skill: Mysticism
    Penalty: -2
Helpers: On your action card you may assist Cory and add +1 to her roll, per the Cooperative Rolls rule (SWDE page 71). Applicable skills: Notice, Arcane Skill (detect arcana, clairvoyance, etc.)
Combat: Angry Ghosts (3)
Ghosts are relentlessly after Cory to try and stop her. Some of the group will need to fight them in order to let her work.
  • Stats: Pace: 8; Parry: 10; Toughness: 12 (4)
Dodge: -2 to be hit by ranged attacks
Notes: Armor not affected by AP
Resistance: +4 Armor vs. Magic and +4 to Trait rolls to resist magic powers.
Combat: Crows (murder)
The crows are easy enough to kill (just make a successful fighting or shooting roll) but there are dozens of them. They flock, swarm, and basically get in the way. This results in a “hazard penalty” of -2 when trying to move. Unless there is a way to disperse the whole flock.

Merlaggon will follow Cory and impose his wings between her and any of the Spirits that come near. In addition, he will be breathing Fire (Cone version) to catch as many of the Crows and Spirits as he can without hitting anyone else. When she finds any bags, Merlaggon will help with the digging as required and will burn the bags when told to by Cory. None of these would normally require a roll by Merlaggon to do.

Cory is a scrapper and not afraid to mix it up with the big boys. But she knows that's an affect, her real job is communicating with Sun and Moon. So she has no issue sitting down in the middle of a evil ghost warrior and demon crow battle including a dragon, juicer and a borg. And one of the craziest crazies she's met, but she doesn't know yet what she's like in a fight.

With rosary in hand, eyes closed, she kneels down and talks to Moon and Sun. There's a lot going around so she does her best to stay focused despite the chaos.

Qoat with his new goggles around his head just above his eyes, follows Cory down into the construction zone. He watches her settle down and begin reaching out with her mystic senses and gets ready to follow suit when the crows and ghosts reappear. Qoat's fatigue affects his mental processes (3H vs Cory's 4H). Should I search as well, fight these things, help Cory? What! Finally his brain gets in gear. First, Cory is going to better at finding these things than you, Qoat. Second, I make things better, fighting is not my forte. Make things better, I can do that. Qoat reaches down to his skill calculator and taps a few quick commands to boost psionic affinity, then tweaks it since she uses magic. "Cory, you are the sun, your light shines brightest." Qoat says somewhat cornily as he reaches down and touches her shoulder.

Hell yes and a free action!
Lail allows the rational mind to be replaced with a fearless self. She struggles not to loose herself completely as before. The demons within rage, but she in this instance quells their calls for freedom. She nods at Timothy, and looks for her sword...
" Captain I got a problem going vibro... I must have left it at Murkywoods home when I got undressed for him. I got another idea for those crows." She moves forward cartwheeling and ducking under Sinders fiery bolts.
Movement uses 8
Lail moves out into the open at E15
" Nice shooting Hot pants, I'll try to take care of the rest of these crows." Lail knocks on the door of her 13th impant, and it glows a dark purple. " Show those crows their worst nightmare Chernabog!"

Well, That Was Easy

Sending hellfire down on the restless spirits, Sinder manages to dissipate two of them with a massive gout of fire. The blast also cuts a huge swath through the crows (reduce Crow Penalty to -1). With two ghosts gone, Lail overcomes her fear of birds and turns the tables on the crows by sending many of them squawking away in panic. With the birds scattered she turns her attention to helping Cory look for evidence of the medicine bags, seeing some old symbols on one of the nearby rocks, she points the mystic that way.

Charging in on the last spirit, Tim takes a mighty swing of his vibro-sword. Doing enough damage to fell a Coalition power armor, but the creature appears to shrug most of it off (ooc: soaked, but is still wounded, no wound modifiers). With the cyborg in its sights the beast swings its magic tomahawk and catches Timothy on the shoulder but doesn’t pierce his armor. He does however, feel a cold chill go up his spine. Before he can contemplate it further Fell opens fire with two blasts from his plasma rifle causing the ghost to disappear in a puff of smoke.

Looking at the rocks with symbols on them Gale is able to point out a few obvious enchantments, narrowing down the area where Cory has to look. As she moves into position Merlaggon tries to shield her with his bulk..while burning the few remaining crows to a crisp.

The scene is suddenly quiet, eerily so, as Cory investigates the symbols. Lending a hand with one of his gadgets, Qoat helps Cory to focus on concentrate. Moving some of the rocks aside she manages to find three small pouches. They appear to be made of animal hide and stuffed with various items. The medicine bags!

Dramatic Task 3 of 5 successes

As she pulls the bags from their spot, a great rushing wind sweeps through the construction site and the three ghosts reappear! Apparently they aren’t willing to go do just yet. They also seem a lot more motivated, as they close the gap across the site very quickly, ganging up on Timothy - the closest opponent. In a ludicrous turn of events none of them manage to hit him, even with their bennies and the Joker!

OOC: All three ghosts are crowded around Timothy. Innocent bystander rule is in effect. No more crows!

"We have to burn them!" Cory shouts, hopefully before anyone does anything counter productive. Taking action into her own hands, she says the prayer from the ancient grandma sage and then calls forth bolts of solar fire - one for each bag. It might be overkill, but she can't help it. This is the kind of evil magic that she has been sent back to eliminate from the world.

"If you find other bags, I have to pray over them before they burn!"

Timothy is sure that there will be more. It's never just one or two, there is always more. Timothy takes a defensive stance and keeps an eye out for crows and ghosts "Don't get comfy, there is always more."

Soon after more ghosts show up, this time making a bee line towards Timothy. This is good, give everyone a change to end this. The first ghost gets right on top of Timothy, and is greeted with a smile. Perfect.

Lail nods to Cory, " Got it moon. I am on bag duty!" Lail scurries around looking for more of these mystical bags. She even goes the extra mile by pulling peoples feet off the ground to look under them. " Moon over here, this either is a bag or a diaper!" While Lail is moving arround she tries to touch Timothy's blade and embue it with the power of a legendary Cyber-knight, but for soem reason it does not work!
Lail cocks her head at Timothy and mutters, " Wow you must have really hated my father. His spirit will not come to help you when I called it." Lail laughs surprisingly and bounds away looking for more bags buried or hidden, " I'll him know it was nothing personal.".

Qoat raises his hand from Cory's shoulder and starts to say, "I'll take those..." when he sees her call upon on the sun. The Quick-Flex flinches from the sudden bright light as the three little bags turn to ash. "Nevermind." He takes a step back and pulls the goggles of his jury-rigged goggles over his eyes and taps the button to activate the tracking function. Having used his senses to examine the bag from the old shaman woman earlier, Qoat had a good idea of what to look for.

The goggles spark for a moment, then image resolves in his vision, a glowing series of red rectangles showing him where to go. "I think there's a bag over here," Qoat calls out as he walks a slightly odd path following the psychic path laid before him. (A success and a raise to Cory next round?)

Dice for First Attack
Nothing to see here, move along. Instead of attack I had a bloody coughing fit and moved closer to Tim and the Ghosts.

Fell aims his rifle at a ghost next to Tim, about to shoot it, when suddenly Fell doubles over in a coughing fit. Wiping blood away from his lips Fell straightens back up and slings the rifle across his back. Ouch.

Moving with juiced reflexes he rushes over to stand next to Tim. On his way over to the Borg he pulls the large Great ChainSaw to use it once closer.

Dice for Second Attack
Split the Seconds

Extra Effort (1 bennie spent ----> EDIT: Instead of bennie I am using up the Adventure card I have, Adventure Cards: Patron Awarded: Extra Effort: add a 1d6 to roll) + Elan to Fighting 1d12 & add 1d6+2

damage = Str (d10) + 2d10 AP 2. add d6 raise damage.

[dice]2[/dice] & [dice]3[/dice] & ace damage on d10 [dice]4[/dice]

25 damage

Standing near Tim, Fell nods a hello then slices a downward swing at one ghost attempting to cut it in half!

Up in Smoke
As the ghosts surround Timothy, Cory directs traffic. Pointing Merlaggon to the right place to dig while she prepares a ritual with more than a little flare. Qoat and Lail uncover the remaining medicine bags and brings them to Cory’s incinerator.

Sinder sends a ghost up in a puff of smoke...only to see it almost immediately reappear! Timothy puts his vibro sword to good use while Fell closes in and cuts down another ghost. Yet, each time a ghost goes down it immediately rematerializes.

With a small pile of medicine bags in front of her Cory brings down the power of the sun. Praying over the bags she unleashes a huge flame gout burning them with mystic Fire. When the bags burn up the ghosts also burst into flames. Timothy gets a front row seat to the fireworks as the ghosts making screaming sounds while they burn up to eternal death.

Before too long the screams stop and the flames die down. Suddenly the site is dim and silent.

Qoat breathes a sigh of relief as he sees the bags and the ghosts go 'poof', he turns to Lail and Cory, "Did either of you find anything around the bags that might be a clue as to who left them there?"

With his helmet on Qoat can't help but here the radio chatter.
Timothy Hernandez wrote:"Hey Cory, what the hell happened? I can't see a dam thing."
Seriously, how does this keep happening to him? You'd think a borg would be a bit more tech savvy., Qoat thinks. Over the radio Qoat says, "Hold on XO, I will be at your location in a minute." Qoat jogs over to the cyborg and says, "Take a knee, you're too tall for me get to those eyes while standing." Qoat pulls out the pre-rifts diagnostic computer and plugs it into his own armor's input port and then plugs in the diagnostic cable into Timothy's head. With the results of the scan in his HUD, Qoat pulls out a set of micro-manipulators and adjusts the servo that controls the eyes ability to track back and forth. "How many fingers and I holding up chief?"

After the last bag was found and destroyed. Lail nods to the others letting her frenzy go. " Well that worked out well."

But instead it threatens to overwhelm her! She starts shaking uncontrollably, pointing her laser rifle at enemies not there. "Damm you! Leave me alone you demonic bastards!" Lail unloads shot after shot after shot, until there is nothing left in the e-clip. Tears are streaming down her face, and a look of terror is plastered in her eyes.
It looks like she is going to bolt back into town. For a second she looks at Timothy pleading desperately with him, " Take me out sarg... I cannot control it."

Damit, it's too much. These god damn demons are everywhere! Tears coming down her face Lail almost slaps Timothy in the crome face, but she stops short. " Thanks for making me care about you!". Lail glances around one more time nervously looking for the demons that plaugue her, and takes off for the comfort of the jail cell.
God damit, let me in here before I murder your whole town!"

Post Post Mortem
It takes a moment for someone to break the silence but, like a giddy child at the fair, Merlaggon asks to do it all again. The rest of the group has a more sober response...until Timothy’s cybernetic eyes go on the fritz again. Qooat quickly steps in to deal with those while Sinder and Fell get a situation report from the rest of the team. Then, of course, Lail starts shooting up imaginary demons.

While her lasers blasts kick up a lot of dirt she bolts for the town jail pounding on the door to be locked back up. The wary sheriff gladly obliges. Of course, all the commotion leads to a big meeting with the town leadership the next day. Qunanah, Mukuroo, the Northern Gun Rep, Walcott, and the 1st SET jam together in a meeting room to process the details.

Quanah, the chief of Fort Comanche, extends his gratitude, “You have put some very old ancestors to rest. We are grateful.” He pauses a moment before looking at Mukuroo then the Northern Gun rep, “This ordeal tells me we must pay more heed to the old ways and must cancel the building project. Instead we will trade for technology gradually with a trusted partner, the Tomorrow Legion.” The NG representative is incensed but Walcott catches up with him later and negotiates a deal for the legion to be the exclusive NG supplier to Fort Comanche - the NG still get to sell their wares and the legion gets a source of product. A win for everyone.

Pardon Me
On the matter of Lail, the chief sighs. “She has saved our people and threatened our people. A double edged sword. We will not detain her, as long as she promises not to return to the Fort in the future. This must be the way.”

Buffalo Soldiers
Speaking on behalf of grandmother, Mukuroo also expresses his gratitude, “You have earned the respect of our elders, and thus my respect as well. Grandmother asked that I pass on a token of our appreciation.” The shaman produces eight animal hide pouches, each one has a tribal painting of a herd of buffalo on it. He hangs one over Cory’s neck and gives a short explanation.

“The herd offers protection and support. One buffalo, while large and fearsome, can be contained. But a herd is unstoppable. Hopefully, the medicine in this bag will remind each of you of your bond to one another. That together you are stronger.”

Code: Select all

Buffalo Spirit Fetish

Type of Item: An animal hide pouch containing a buffalo knuckle bone, hair, and sinew. The outside of the pouch has a tribal painted herd of buffalo.

Trait: Always on.

Trappings: Anyone wearing a Buffalo Spirit Fetish may give her bennies to any other character who is also wearing one. If the wearers cannot communicate with one another then they cannot share bennies.
After one more night, one punctuated by drumming and dancing to honor the 1st SET and the new relationship with the Tomorrow Legion, the convoy begins the long trek across the open plains of Kansas toward the mountains of Colorado. The long open road leaves a lot of time to talk and to reflect.
Interlude
This week in an interlude. Remember these are worth an additional 1-2 XP at the end of the quarter. I am already writing the next GM post so as soon as the interludes are done I can move things along storywise.

• Clubs—Tragedy: Describe a tale of tragedy or misfortune from your hero’s past, featuring
one of his Hindrances if possible. If the teller has a dark secret of some kind, hint strongly
at it, drop clues, or otherwise give the rest of the group a glimpse into your hero’s dark side
during your narrative.
• Spades—Victory: Tell the group about a great victory or personal triumph in your adventurer’s past. How did it affect him afterward? Was there a reward?
• Hearts—Love: Speak fondly of the character’s greatest love—lost, found, or waiting on him back home. What is her name? Where does she live? Why is the traveler not with her now?
• Diamonds—Desire: Tell a tale about something your hero wants (or already has). It might be a material possession, recognition, a political goal, or even a trip he wishes to take to some amazing destination.
Feedback
So, this was my first attempt at a more investigative and less combat driven scenario. How did it go?

For example, I noticed a few times the storyline seemed to be lost/muddled, anything I can do to help that in the future?

Qoat works on Timothy's eyes. This is absolutely stupid. "look at it this way, you are getting some real good experience on cybernetics." Once his eyesight is restored. "Thanks Q, your fingers are magic."

When Timothy hears the decision about Lail he is relieved. She might tear down the town, and they know it. At least she is trying to get better. Lets see if there is a way to help harness her powers. "Thank you for your mercy and wisdom chief. We will try to help her harness her power for good." Timothy takes a pause at the end of the sentence as if he is looking for just the right word.

Timothy takes the necklace from Mukuroo. More magic mojo. Christ, there has to be a better way then relying on this shit. I'm sure some pencil head will love to study this eventually. Timothy starts to record the object and creates a file for observations, and put the bag around his neck.

Timothy provides some air cover/recon at times on the road. Flying is rather fun and relaxing. I'm kinda jealous of Merl for this. After a few days on the road, Timothy is sitting at the fire with the team after it was his turn to make dinner.

Timothy sits there staring into the fire, slowly enjoying the dinner. "MMMM, This is pretty dam good." Staring into fire and taking a glance at the medicine bag. "Did I ever tell you guys how my family even made it to the burbs? It was many years ago, I was about 6 or so. The kingdom we where living in was considerably low tech and was attracting high tech bandits and magic users who wanted their own kingdom. One of the fed magic teams came to our kingdom and summoned something so large and scary you could feel it deep down in your soul. My family grabbed anything we could and ran. It was myself, my parents and my grand parents. We where being chases by demons that would eat us alive. We have been running for so long, I don't even remember exactly how long it was. One month? Two? I don't even now. We had little food, always tired, always looking behind us trying to keep the demons off of us. Many families were grabbed from us screaming being mutilated, raped and even eaten as soon as the demons had them." If cyborgs could cry, Timothy would have a tear rolling down his face. Timothy continues with the story, with hesitation and sorrow in his voice, barely staying together. "The night before we were rescued, it was just the two families. Mine and Amy's. It was a small family, Amy, her mother and her brother. Amy and I were best friends. we did everything together. We were running on that day, a demon was on our heels. I was able to keep Amy with me, her brother had tripped. Her mother stopped to get him. A demon was reaching for her brother when her mother grabbed him and threw him towards my father and grandfather. As they caught Tommy, several demons swarmed them and started to rip them apart right in front of me and Amy. I couldn't hear anything over my screams. My mother grabbed me and started to run. I couldn't leave her, she was my best friend. A demon had gotten a hold of her and started to eat her right then and there. There was nothing I could do to stop them. Right then a squadron of Demon Locust was out on a patrol and saw us in trouble. I saw the rail guns rip demons and people apart, missiles exploding the very ground we were on. One of them landed and a squad of troops picked us up and took us to the helicopter. My father, grandfather and Amy all gone. I couldn't do anything to help them. The demons won. The only people who survived that attack was my family. Everyone was gone." Timothy takes a deep breath and returns to dinner. "Sorry, mmmm, good food. Whoever made it knows their stuff."

AT THE FORT
  • Listening to the others the Juicer attempts to stay focused. As the elders thank everyone Fell pushes Timothy and Sinder towards the front, "Go tell them the Legion will stand on their side and we were glad to help. I don't want to talk with them. Head hurts."

AFTER THE FORT
  • Happy to be on the road again his spirits perk up some. Fell spends most of his time with Qoat, riding shot gun, and chatting with Qoat. Simple pleasant talk, hanging out with a buddy. The aging Juicer is jovial as he hangs with Qoat. Only once does his mood become grim, after one of his nose bleeds.

"Qoat...I have a note book I write in, in my pack. I wrote down what I want done with my possessions when I finally get to ... the end. So, hell that meal Tim cooked was hella good eh? Damned if I understand how he does it. Yummy. The XO has skills."

On occasion Fell also makes an attempt to spend time talking to every member of the 1st SET as they continue towards Colorado. Over all the Juicer is happy and friendly.

  • INTERLUDE

    PRE LEGION

Wormwood is a hellish world, had it not been for his recent conversion to Juicer life, Severin Fell might have not survived. His trek from the wastes to World Gate had been treacherous. Time after time he fought the forces of darkness. The bio-comp that he now wore had been shinny and new a week ago. It was dented and covered in pale dust now. The fury of chemicals that burned through his system carried him farther than he ever could have gone as a mere human soldier.

Over the week he had twice nearly meet his end at the hands of demons. Each time the Juicer harness and its chemical magic had saved his life. Using the large chainsaw blade like a scythe he had slashed down demon after demon. It amazed him that any humans even were alive out here in the unearthly desert. The two humans he was traveling with, both alive after he rescued them told him that these lands were where the forces of darkness reigned. The human lands were far south. It was from them that he learned about the city, World Gate, and its portal to earth.

With only a few days left before arriving in World Gate, according to the woman and her child that traveled with Severin, he was anxious to get off Wormwood. Part of the reason he became a Juicer was to avenge his sister Dani Fell.

That day she was taken still kept him awake.

    ---

Dani was a pretty, lithe little red head. Her brother Severin and her ran across the old freeway, pretending to be super soldiers. Severin was 16, Dani 14, and both wanted to be free and full of power like their older brother Drake. Drake was the pride of the family.

The day’s fun ended badly. He had promised their mother he would watch out for Dani and that they would not go up on the old freeway.

As Severin and his sister ran across the roadway, playing at being soldiers like Drake, Severin had no idea what even hit him, blasted off the cracked old pavement he was knocked unconscious. Waking later he learned that Dani had been taken by a group of Brodkil.

Whether true or not, Severin always felt his mother hated him after that day for letting Dani be taken.

    ---

As Fell reached the top of the hill he stood looking down at the city called World Gate. About to make his way to it the woman he had been traveling with begged him to reconsider. To stay with her and her child, to make their way to the human lands. Fell had shaken his head, no, he was willing to escort her to the city but he wanted off this world. The woman and child made their way, away from Fell, away from World Gate. Fell watched them go for a while before he was about to turn and walk to the city that would allow him to get back to avenging Dani. He needed off Wormwood to avenge her.

Turning he stopped. Spinning his head back he say several large winged demons being ridden by other demons swoop down and snatch up the woman and child. Running after them Fell was not able to keep up. The winged demons made off with them. Stopping. Panting. Fell shook with anger.

Turning, he made his way to World Gate. Where he would find a way off this damned world.

Fell was tired of losing those that relied on him. The pain of failing others stung badly and no amount of drugs could cover his pain.

Pretending not to care, Cory is very pleased with the outcome of the mission. Doubly so for the trade deal between the Legion, NG and Fort Comanche. It's pretty cool to have had such an effect on this town. She feels like her mystical talents were fundamental to the success too, and that's exciting. She spent much of the down time thanking Sun and Moon, praying through her rosary.

She is, however, quite disturbed by Lail. She seems to be out of control, and Cory has no idea how to help her. Lail seems so helpless. While Lail is locked up Cory will go visit and just sit and talk to the broken elf girl, about whatever Lail wants to talk about. Cory tries to be friendly and listen, to brush off her normal brusqueness and help be the young elf's friend.

When presented with the gift from the elder, Cory is practically dumbfounded by the generosity. "Thank you, this is like an amazing gift. Thank you, may Sun and Moon always watch over your people," she says humbly, bowing her head to Mukuroo and to the grandmother. She puts the pouch around her neck and tucks it under her robes and armor.

INTERLUDE: THE GAME
Cory's hometown was small and idyllic. They had that combination of magic and technology that places like Lazlo bragged about. And since Cory was not actively magical, she found herself focused on technology, computer software. There wasn't much real "hacking" in her town. While there were plenty of computers and networks, it was just too small of a population for an real infiltration to be fruitful. And the networks did not connect to any other communities. They were an island, there was no net.

Skills, however, needed to be kept sharp, or they would be lost. Information security, infosec, was a topic of study for the non-magical types. The study of it took on the veneer of a sporting skill rather than a practical one. There were competitions. There were prizes. It was kind of a big deal. Different teams formed up over the course of a year between different groups of young adults, those not yet matriculated into adult society. These were the most intense of the competitions, the adults didn't seem to have the zeal that the kids had. Each year around the summer solstice, the competition was held. They were designed by the teams around a theme. Each team designed it's challenge, then the other teams attacked, trying to infiltrate and subvert the other teams' systems. The winner was the one with the most successes when their system was finally breached, or they were the last one standing. The rules changed every year, but that was the most stable version.

When Cory was 16, she was co-captain of her team. They (coincidentally or not) were the Sun Gods. They started off poorly, spending a lot of resources defending their own system, with no luck subverting any of the other teams'. But after hours of defense, Cory was able to help marshall her team and finally achieve a modest victory. It was still a struggle, but by that point several systems had been taken over by other teams, and the Sun Gods were able to move in and steal the already infiltrated systems from their new owners. This strategy worked, and as their power base grew, it became easier to fend off attackers and keep gobbling up other systems.

It was one of the longest contests on record, lasting three days, 72 hours straight. The Sun Gods were victorious, an unexpected win for a young team. Cory printed the trophies from the town's 3d printer, and had hers on the mantle: Image

Lail sad eyed looks up at Timothy after he shares his story. That story sounds similar to how I was taken. For a while she just looks at Timothy and finally shakes her head trying to clear away images of her own abduction. Lail sits next to Cory for a while before speaking up softly to Cory, " Thanks Moon, sometimes I am too afraid. I don't think I was made for this world. I have a plan, but..." Lail clams up listening to Cory tell her tale.

"Right on Moon, a team captain! Lail looks at Cory for a moment. She seems so unsure of herself, and yet one of the most capable out of the bunch. Lail takes off her fetish necklace and hands it to Cory. " I don't think this is right for me. Try to give it to someone who will help you guys out, and be part of the team... That's not me."

Lail looks at the rest of the team with her voice quivering she speaks softly, " I joined this team to see what my father saw in each of you. I think I see it now. You all have done right by me. I am sorry I loose it from time to time, but literally the demons of my past plague me. The last time I saw my father, was really similar to what happened with Timothy. It makes you wonder just how many families and kids went through something like we did. I won't go into the detail of how it happened, just the final moments. There was a moment during the melee where I could have escaped, but I was so enamored by the stories I had watched by Walt Disney that I could think of nothing better than to see my papa play the heroic knight, and me his damsel is distress." Lail laughs suddenly startling herself, " I must have been crazy even as a kid. So the demon sorceress waves to me, beckoning me to follow her through the portal. God, what a mess. She was horrible to behold, red skin, leathery wings, horrible but beautiful all the same." Lail's voice drops even further barely even vocalized. " I went through." She stops for a moment starring blankly and then continues with more force, " There was no fairytale ending... No ending for a long time, and it was Mr. Baron who rescued me. He told me, The old Knight had never given up,and was ever searching... I suppose that is why he joined the Tomorrow Legion. I hope he is waiting for me."
After her story Lail listens to the rest of the group share, from time to time she shakes her head as if engaged in some kind of conversation. Lail looks at Sinder, "Your father was good to me, I think you do him proud out here." She places a hand on his, letting as many micronians try to implant him as necessary.

In the middle of the night she steals away heading back for Forte Comanche for some unfinished business. She leaves the combat mage armor and fetish, but takes all her weapons. She also places a note on the dash of the Q mobile, and gives Qoat a kiss on the cheek. Thanks for everything Q!
Note
Thanks for letting me get to know my father. I have some unfinished business to attend to. Sorry if this leaves you in a lurch, but I just have to do it.
Since Fell and Timothy don't sleep she nods to them and whispers trying not to disturb the rest of the folks. " I must leave now. I am sure toying with the two of you would be fun, but there is something I must attend to. Demons must be put to rest, and I know what I have to do. Thank you mortals for helping me understand my father, and my purpose in this life... It is not here." Lail hugs them, giving the micronians one last chance to implant the two men. She walks away from camp, pausing only to bow low to a peaceful Merlaggon. Softly she pats his side. " You would do well to eat these mortals sky master. Thank you for saving this body back at the castle." Confused by what she just said Lail stumbles away from the sleeping Merlaggon, and drops to a knee.
SD_Wicked Queen Taking control: What a pathetic soul, this poor girl lamenting over her father. She is so afraid... Engage all M.O.M implants and never turn them off!
When she rises her face is that of the Wicked Queen, and her body is painted black. She knows no fear, the scared frightened child not meant for this world has been engulfed by something far more sinister and unlike before it never leaves. She sprints off heading in the direction of Forte Comanche.

Sorry for all the high strung drama and trouble folks. I have not enjoyed playing Lail, and I can only imagine what kind of negative effect she has had on your guys' experience. Timothy listens to Lails story and is starting to understand her more. People will react to demons in different ways. It's a shame.

The night Lail approaches Timothy and Fell, they are sitting around the camp fire discussing matters of the 1st SET. Timothy is speaking in an elevated hush tone as to not waken everyone up, while Fell is matter of factually and calmly speak. "I can't believe you are thinking about burning out now. We haven't been in that bad of a situation yet." Seeing Lail approach the two of them, Timothy shuts up to allow her to speak.
" I must leave now. I am sure toying with the two of you would be fun, but there is something I must attend to. Demons must be put to rest, and I know what I have to do. Thank you mortals for helping me understand my father, and my purpose in this life... It is not here."
Timothy is taken back with Lail as she starts to walk away. "Are you fucking kidding me? No absolutely not. I am not allowing you to go walking off into the night and abandoning us. You and Fell might have some I'm going to save everyone I care about by sacrificing myself mentality, but you are not doing anyone any good. This is fucking suicide. Plain and simple. You have personal demons to resolve, great we all do and we will do it together. If the both of you leave this team, do you realize what you are leaving behind? A murder hobo cyborg, a dragon that takes orders from a child better then the experienced military people in charge, a young woman barely old enough for high school with the fire power to level a town, and technician who's primary job right now is to keep the murder hobo eyes to keep working. Is that what you want? Both of you?"

Sinder is real glad that the team is alive, but he is worried about the old Man Fell. Fell is looking older by the day, he worries that Fell might not be around much longer. He is worried about the affect it will have on the group as a whole.

The other thing is Tim’s persistent eye problem. Thank heaven Qoat is there to do his duct tape repair on the tin man.

Lial is another problem the group are eventually going to have to face. He hates to say it but she is a danger to all around her. He loved her Father but does it mean that he should have to watch her kill innocents.

He is relieved that she checked herself into jail but who is going to keep her on a leash when they are out in combat.

The night goes slowly he tosses and turns so many problems, so many problems. Then the sunrise and the meetings.
You have put some very old ancestors to rest. We are grateful.” He pauses a moment before looking at Mukuroo then the Northern Gun rep, “This ordeal tells me we must pay more heed to the old ways and must cancel the building project. A win for everyone.
Sinder is not surprised at the outcome. Sometimes a step backwards helps everyone go forward. People need to find their way in this would and theat way is something they have to live with.

The Pardon of Lail is something he really doesn’t know about. Could the crazy eventually go Crazzy? And When she does who will be around to pick up the pieces. It is good that she will be taken out and away from the comanche, at least they are safe,, but what about the next town. Only time will tell of the true fate of Lail.

Those words are haunting, stay together. Stay together even if one of your party is on his death bed and another is crazy.

After a day on the trail when nightime comes around.

Around the campfire Sinder tells the tale of how he got his name and face on a CS Poster.

I finally got a chance to break away from Mom and Dad’s reach and so I went from Lazlo to New Lazlo. Thinking it would be pretty easy, just a short trip hang out in New Lazlo have some fun and then see what pops up next."

"I get to New Lazlo and I teamed up with a few younger hot heads we decide to head south. Well the day didn’t go right from the beginning. The rain came vehicles get stuck in the mud. The cool kids show their true colors and start complaining about what to do. They wanted to leave those stuck behind and press on. I couldn’t see that so I stayed with the stuck in the mud group. A few hours later parts of the group that left come screaming back. They brought with them a CS patrol. Well the fight was on, now that we are together the tide turned against the CS. I'm thinking finally something good. Right?"

"But the ones that came back said there were more of the CS coming and that they were going to leave us to our fate. Well it wasn’t good, some of the people decided to try to run on foot. I decided to get under one of the wrecked vehicles that was on fire and cover or bury myself in mud. I figured with the fire and mud hiding me no one would find me."

"I waited and it seems the CS Army, well it wasn’t an Army but it was a large force comes rolling in they checked out their dead and ours and leave about two guys behind to secure the battle scene as the rest roll on after the group that fled."

"After 20 minutes or so these two private, no class, were goofing off near the fire. Yep they got out of the lower armor and one started to squat to take a you know what, and the other started to wizz. The Peeer got real close to my face. That is when I jump out of the mud screaming."

"Now time seems to stand still at these times. I think the Peeer just fainted or had a heart attack and turned around crashed into the guy squatting, pissing all over the place ad falling on the Squatter, he smashed the Squatter's head into the mud and I think he is dead because he releases his bowels all over the Peeer. Piss and well you know all over the place. And they collapsed in a pile, bottom armor naked on top of each other. Well I'm scared too! So, I just run likes hell away from this. Eventually I remember I could fly and I use that ability to put some space between me and the CS."

"I thought I was free no one would ever find out. But a few weeks later I see a poster with my name and the fact that I assaulted two CS soldier and I was wanted for some other unmentioned acts on these CS’ers. So I decide I should put a lot of space between me and the northeast."

"I haven’t told anyone about this, so please don’t go around spreading the word. a lot of people think I'm a real Bad boy. If they really knew there goes my Bad Boy image."

My first time too, but I had an easy roll, my person was on the battle side. I got to see how the others handled the use of skills and helped solved the problem.

Eventually they lock onto red. A snear forms on the lips of what used to be Lail. " Before she lost this fight, would it warm you to know she thought fondly of you all. Would it be a kindness the micronian queen could bestow to let you hear her pathetic voice once more?". Lail's head droops for a second, and she looks up at Timothy and those arround with tears in her eyes. " I can't take it... I am drowning... Drowning."
The red eye Lail reasurts herself smiling wide, " With you Timothy to watch over the others, I am sure you will be fine. This vessel must fulfill its bargin. Timothy sees that Lail is no longer in control of herself. This is why crazy people are dangerous. Timothy pulls out his great sword and activates it so the blades are rotating. The sleep of everyone in the party is of no longer a concern. "I can't let you do that. You are putting our mission at risk. You have two options, Stand down now, and we will help you in every way or you will see that I am the greatest demon you have ever seen, and I will win."

Lail stands there her rage building up that Timothy would stand in her way of achieving her goal. "If you do not allow us to this, then you are an enemy." Lail charges towards Timothy in a rage unseen by the team before. Timothy is able to keep his calm and his training kicks in. With a simple side step and the momentum of Lails speed, Lail impales herself onto the sword. Timothys robotic muscles give slightly as Lail lays there with the Giant Vibrosword in her gut. The only sounds that can be heard is the motor of the vibrosword causing the teeth to grind deeper in Lail with every moment.

  • As Fell sits quietly listening to Tim, the old Juicer sees Lail walk up. Fell smiles at her as she approaches.

I hate to see her in so much mental pain. Thankfully Tim has been trying to help her calm her demons.

The old Juicer’s smile disappears as Lail and Tim exchange words. Standing up his bones hurting, Fell groans.

Need to stop this before it goes too far.

Brushing dirt off his pants and stretching his back Fell moves forward, still behind Tim, and is about to move around to face Lail when he hears her charge.

It takes a split second for the bio-comp to kick in, when it does, its too late. With blinding speed Fell moves to Lail, clicks off the vibro sword and holds it still in her gut.

If I remove it she will bleed out. Her eyes are already fading. Damn it!

Fell hisses at Tim, ”Damn it Tim. Damn it.”

Holding Lail’s face in his now bloody hands Fell leans in close to her.

”I am so sorry Lail. I am so sorry Sayeen. Be calm now Lail. Your pain is over.”

Seeing Lail’s eyes darken and her breath stop, Fell removes the sword and drops it next to her.

Blood on his hands, pants, and shirt Fell pulls off his signature leather coat and drapes it over the young Lail’s face.

Quiet for a moment Fell bows his head.

”Timothy, gather her up. I’ll clean the mess here. You carry her out of sight of the camp. I will hate myself for this I am sure, however…we are not letting the others know this happened. Once I am gone you are going to need the others to follow you. They won’t if they know you killed her…even if in defense. Let me clean up the blood on the ground, and then I will go with you. We will head out of town, away from camp, out far…and burry her.”

Looking at Tim the Juicer says, “You can live with that?”

Can't have the others know. It will destroy this SET. We will say she just left. Asked us to let her go. Damn it! I failed you Sir Sayeen. I failed you Lail. I'm so sorry.

A hand rests on Timothy and Fell, its a soft blue glow but feels real as if a great internal strength is powering. A friend appears beside them both, the ghost of Sir Sayeen. He looks at his dead daughter and smiles softly. " You have brought peace to her... You have brought her back to me. There is no shame, no dishonor... The 1st's moral compass, you have done what your heart commands." sir Sayeen draws his family crest on Timothy's right shoulder, " Should you have need of me or what strength I posses. Call out for me and I will come." For a brief instance you see the young Lail appear next to her father, and the two hug disappearing into the ether.

The image of Sayeen disappears, with the sword still in Lails guts. Fell brings Timothy back to what just happened. Timothy Picks up Lail in his arms. Light as a feather. Lails blood is smeared all over Timothy's gut and starts to run down his legs. Timothy will look down at the lifeless body, seeing the blood flow down his body, he will look into Fells eyes. "I had no choice. She was going to attack the village. Can I keep a secret? Yes I can, I don't think that is a good idea. Your still the boss." Timothy will fly for several miles towards the north. Once on the ground, he will dig her a grave that won't be noticeable easily. Timothy will gently place Lail into the grave. Once the grave is fully covered. Timothy stands there. "I'm sorry this happened. We would have worked with you to help you. I could not just stand by why you go and break the very agreement we made to maintain peace. It looks like command was right, there is no changing people out in the wild. My mission is to observe and report. You threatened that mission. You and your father had a way of complicating things, I honestly hope that now you and your father can have peace.
    I'm not normally religious,"
Timothy will touch his forehead, both shoulders, and the center of his chest. "In the name of GOD almighty. Amen."

Timothy will walk a few paces from the grave and fly back to base. Once back at base, Timothy will wash himself off and start to clean up his sword, quietly. Timothy will not speak at all for the rest of the night. He'll sit there cleaning his sword so that no one would know what happened. When it's about 30 minutes before everyone wakes up, Timothy will start to cook breakfast.

Fell is shaken by the appearance of Sir Sayeen. If Tim had not been there to see it too, the old Juicer would think it was a side effect of burning out, visions and such.

Needless to say, after cleaning up the area, Fell does not sleep this night. Come morning he is still sitting silently in his ratty lawn chair in camp. So deep in thought he skips a great breakfast.

Once people have a chance to eat, Fell sets his chair into the back of Q's vehicle, next to the armor Lail left behind that the Juicer had given her, and looks around. Sighing he grumbles and as he stands over the spot Lail died, the Juicer grabs up a handful of dirt and slowly lets it fall between his fingers. Picking up his leather coat from near by Fell walks over to cooking fire, only he sees the small speck of blood that he was unable to clean off the coat. Grumbling more he looks at the cooking fire, which is no longer in use, and drops his coat in the flames. The coat burns as Fell moves to board the Q-Mobile, "Lets roll."

The celebration in Fort Comanche amazes Merlaggon. It is the first time he has been at the center of any sort of celebration. People are bringing their children forward to touch him, their "Firebird" for good luck. Merlaggon gently touches his claw to the babies' foreheads as desired, and people bring him FOOD. LOTS of FOOD! Then they start dancing all around him and encourage him to join in! Never before has Merlaggon been celebrated as a hero. While his dancing is not always the most skilled, it is with great enthusiasm. He also helps with some of the drumming by hitting his tail on the ground with loud THUMPS. It ends up a late night for Merlaggon before he turns in for the night.

Just before curling up to sleep, he wakes up Cory to tell her of all the WONDERFUL things that he did at the celebration.

"It was WONDERFUL! The all loved me! we drummed... and danced... and ate LOTS of food! They asked me to touch their babies and other children to give them good luck. I didn't know really how to do that, but I touched each of the children I was asked to, and they all smiled BIG smiles. NOBODY was afraid of me! It was wonderful! I wish all days could be like today was... I guess yesterday now. ANyways, time to sleep. Good-night!"

    Victory.

In the middle of the night, Merlaggon half wakes up a few times. Hearing a familiar voice talking... first Lail, then Timothy and Fell as well, he just curls back up and goes to sleep. In the morning, Merlaggon wonders where Lail has gone to.

"Where is Lail? If she left, why didn't she say good-bye... and wouldn't she bring her armor with her? I KNOW she is not the most level-headed of people, but she needs her armor to survive around on her own. Maybe I should take to the skies and look for her. Cory, would you be willing to be another set of eyes so we can find her, and at least find out why she left?"

With Merl looking for Lail, Timothy knows he can't let him go on that search. The cover up is always worse then the secret. "Stand down Merl. Lail wanted to leave without bothering us. She also felt that she didn't deserve the gear we gave her. She wouldn't listen to Fell or Myself. We tried to stop her..." Timothy's voice gives out as he does not end the sentence. As Timothy secures his jet pack, he stands up straight."You heard the man. Fells Follies! Roll out!" With that, he flies into the sky. Merl probably won't listen, and who knows what Cory will do.

Lail Gabbersleaf wrote:Lail looks at the rest of the team with her voice quivering she speaks softly, " I joined this team to see what my father saw in each of you.

Qoat brushes his cheek after Lail's kiss, but doesn't wake up. Exhausted from the lack of sleep the previous night and the brush with danger as they finally calmed the spirits in the construction area, Qoat sleeps heavily, unusual for the frenectic Quick-Flex. He wakes to find the note, and then hears the story from the others about Lail being overwhelmed by her own internal demons and having to be stopped by the XO.

Qoat eats the breakfast quietly, not sure what to say in the silence. When an opportunity arises, Qoat says to Timothy, "It's a damn tragedy, more so since she lost the battle within herself." Reach out a hand, Qoat pats the borg's shoulder and adds, "When one of our own becomes a menace, taking care of her of ourselves is the right thing. Thank you for shouldering the burden for all of us."

Qoat heads back to the Q-Mobile, walking up the front he raises his hands to be able to lean on the front bumper, the large wheels making it a stretch for the relatively short Quick-Flex. Time to get back on the road. I hope we never have to come back to this crow-be-damned village. He rubs his right hand along the body of the vehicle as he takes a clock-wise spin around it checking for any damage. He listens to the rest of his team talking and nods and answers as needed, but doesn't really engage. His inspection complete, he climbs into the cab and drops heavily into his chair. He leans back and closes his eyes while waiting for the rest of his team to say they are ready.

Junkyards and battlefields have been the source of many of the reconditioned parts Qoat has used over the years since he opened his small stall in town fixing things for his neighbors. Getting there quickly often meant the difference between eating or not for the next few days.

Various animals both native and alien to Earth scattered in front of Qoat as he crossed the field investigating the various clumps of debris. The smell of death was still strong in the air causing him to gag at times. He'd found a few engine parts, part of a wing, a small thruster, and what looked to be a Titan Reconsissance Bot sensor cluster...a fantastic fine. That's when he saw her.

Lying on her side, two of the six huge wheels on the ATV were shredded. Smoke still rose from the engine compartment. Walking up to it, Qoat saw the buckled side panels, and the huge whole over the front cab. Something must have ripped open the top and plucked the driver right out. There was still power to the instrument panel, though most of the gauges were flashing red. The radio was on softly playing.

Qoat spent the next few hours going over the vehicle. Despite the wheels and the body panel damage, the vehicle's frame and power plant were still sound. He began working on the axles and wheels so he could arrange for it to be towed back to his garage. The sound of his work filling in the air with bangs and clangs. The noise and his focus caused him to miss the sounds of something scrambling over the other side, until he heard a voice like broken glass growl, "More food, stay still manling and I will kill you quick." The red glowing eyes below the curling horns filled Qoat's vision. He scrambled away from the ATV crab style on his back trying to put distance between him and the demon.

The ATV groaned as the creature dug it's claws into the side panel in preparation to leap to the ground. It swung down it's clawed hand digging in to a wheel with supernatural strength. Crouch in the vehicle's shadow, the creature cackled at Qoat's obvious fear. Suddenly the creature stopped and turned, a metallic groaning swell behind it. The ATV was rocking. Was it from the creature's leap? The wind? Something else? Qoat wasn't sure, but then with a crash, the ATV rocked down on to it's broken wheels, the middle axle landing squarely on the demon's back, snapping it with a crunch. The pinned monster struggled as it's foul smelling ichor that was it's blood quickly pooled on the ground, after a while the demon laid still, it's eyes no longer glowing red. The only sound was that of the radio.

Until or unless Cory is willing to go for a flight to look for Lail, Merlaggon will be sulking while taking a ride on top of the Super Cargo Hauler. He will be careful that he does not break or damage any instruments on the top of the vehicle as he makes himself comfortable.

”She could have at least said good-bye!”

After a few hours of sulking, Merlaggon will take to the skies and act as lookout for the trade caravan. He will spend most of the days travelling as aerial reconnaissance, both with Cory on his back, and without her.

The stupid part is, Cory missed all the drama. She was off talking with Granny about mystic shit (if I may use Timothy's language) and totally checked out of the material world. Only when the old matriarch had grown weary, did they stop. Even so, it was still well into the night. Cory's head was full of ancient wisdom, a different spiritual framework she was working to fit into her own. It wasn't a shoe-horn type process, it was a collaborative process, the Indian's spirituality meshing and improving her own Sun-Moon duality. It was not a specious exercise either, every aspect was carefully considered and evaluated, maybe even discarded, but what she added to her belief, reinforced her belief structure.

So much like Merl, when Cory returns to the group, she eventually wonders about Lail. It is not the first thing on her mind though. Not until she talks to Merl for a bit and he raises the questions. She wanted to talk to him about the power of diverse belief systems. She told him how varied points of view can help people grow and be stronger if they have the ability to listen to other people. Cory is able to talk to Merl in a way she has trouble talking to other people. Her level of sarcasm and general rudeness disappears and the underlying caring person comes out when talking with the dragon alone.

Then, "Wait, where is Lail? Tim, did you do something to her?? Fell, did Tim do something? What happened!"

If Timothy can express emotion, it would be anger and frustration. Both at the situation and at Cory for the questions. Timothy will look Cory in the eyes. "She's gone. That is it. Gone."
