Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Without much work the past little bit Gregory was getting low on funds. Fortunately, he got an unexpected envelope in the mail. It was post marked from South America and contained a stack of hundred dollar bills ($1,000) and one of those religious cards with patron saints on them. In the case it was Saint Giles, patron of the Society of Saint Giles, the official resistance against the Red Court. On the back of the card was a hand written note, Suspected reds in city hall. Watch and observe. Do not engage.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Gregory has heard rumors of the Society of St. Giles, though he has not, as far as he knows, met any of them.
Now the problem with trying to observe around city hall is that it is guarded, and if you do not have a reason for being there the guards are going to notice that you are there often.
This calls for a cover job. There should be a listing somewhere on line of open city jobs, something like a Janitor or office worker in the city hall would be perfect.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Getting a job at City Hall usually requires a certain security clearance that may lead to uncomfortable questions for Gregory. Fortunately, he discovers they are not nearly so picky with their cleaning services. Like most governments they contract out janitorial and office cleaning to a bonded company and like most companies bilking the government system they don't mind hiring people with incomplete paperwork. A little fancy hacking and Gregory finds himself at the top of the list of candidates for hire at CLEANCO a huge contact services firm specializing in institutional cleaning, maintenance, and janitorial services.
He does have to go through the motions of a training day, but on the plus side he'll make minimum wage. Like most big companies they only will give part time hours in order to avoid paying the benefits due to permanent full time employees.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Cleanco seems to fit the bill as a way to get into the courthouse. First to put in a legitimate application, it will take a few day to be processed and they will want an in person interview probably. The question is, does he want to wait for formal acceptance or finesse things by forging an acceptance and post-dating both, then forging an assignment to work in the courthouse?
Well, general rule, keep things as strait as possible. Maintenance companies are generally always hiring, as a lot of people do not really want to work. So today, put in the application and then study the courthouse who, what, and where.
He obviously can not apply as "Gregory Abernathy", so he has an assumed name of Greg North, along with some moderately good fake ID to go with it. He knows enough to save his work as he goes...in case of power outage or other unforeseen interruptions of service...

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
As soon as Gregory finishes up his application he gets a ping back from CLEANCO to come in for training and get started right away. They must be desperate for minimum wage, non benefit receiving, workers. Go figure. The e-mails contains and address, location, and time to visit CLEANCO for training. It's only a few hours from now, if he can make it.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Gregory is not sure if that was a human response or an auto-reply, but he makes a not of where and when he is supposed to report in and starts preparations. It is hours off, but the first thing to do is check the bus schedules for how to get there so that he knows when he needs to get on which bus to reach the place on time. It is not like he currently owns a car.
The second thing is his disguise. Granted he is not well known around the courthouse, but he is NOT unknown either. While the Anonymity of a low level custodial staff member covers a lot, just possibly someone who knows him might be alert enough to look twice. To be on the safe side, he has to actually change his appearance. Start with colored contact lenses and hair dye, then some spray-on tan to darken his skin. Make him look swarthy, with brown eyes and black hair, possibly a hispanic or a person of mixed race. He is no expert in disguise, so keep it simple.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Gregory is able to get a rudimentary disguise going. Enough to mask his features without looking too obvious. The bus system is easy enough to navigate with many routes passing by the office park where the contract cleaning company has its offices.
When Gregory arrives he's given very little scrutiny. A bored looking office manager gives him a CLEANCO uniform, a plastic ID card for city hall, and a half hearted speech about CLEANCO's company values. After a series of occupational safety videos and cleaning product demonstrations Gregory is release with a work schedule and a bunch of tax forms to complete for payroll purposes, or he can opt to take a little more money in cash.
When all is said and done, Gregory sees he is assigned the nightshifts. Apparently no one likes working nights.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Most of the real cleaning is done on the night shift, when there are fewer people to get in the way. Anyone who has ever worked in a cleaning position knows that. That does not actually include Gregory, who was a pampered rich kid had rarely had to work, but he has no objection to working nights, especially given that he is looking for Vampire influences and Vampires tend to be most active at night.
He heads out to catch the bus, pausing to leave a written message under the welcome mat (on a page in a sandwich bag) that says, "Under cover, back in a few hours". Now the front of the page happens to be printed with basic information on Cleanco from their web page. He figures anyone who actually is searching should be able to find him...more or less.
(Unless the bus happens to pass by Gary's location, looks like they will miss each other today.)

City Hall
After a tedious, and tiring, training from another night shift worker. Gregory is given the job to clean the public toilets in the lobby. Despite the late hour he can hears the thumping sounds of music coming from an upstairs office.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
It seems likely that Gregory will be under observation, so he will play things strait. First cleaning the toilets and changing paper rolls, then cleaning the sinks and mirrors and changing the paper towels. Also he sanitized the blow driers (which are often the dirtiest part of the room). He empties the trash containers and then mops the floors, placing the wet floor sign as he does so. It is fairly simple work, a bit time consuming but not bad.
He keeps his eyes and ears open to see if he can find out anything, but stays in character and does not go anywhere he is not told to.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
While he cleans and works, Gregory hears a woman scream and the fast click of high heels running down a hallway. She sounds like she is coming from the offices where the music was playing. As he looks down the hall he sees her coming toward him in a hurry but moving unsteadily. She has a puncture wound on her neck that is trickling blood, the scent of it is in intoxicating.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Fortunately Gregory has not been using his powers or this would be even harder. The open wound is not easy to resist...
If she allows him, Gregory will help clean her wounds, and ask her, "How did this happen? Someone playing around with a roasting fork?" If it was a Red Court Vamp who did this, she may be suffering from the effects of Narcotic Saliva, best to wash it off her skin as soon as possible.
He suspects he knows, but acting like he knows probably will not help him get information.

...but Gregory manages to restrain himself. He reminds himself that the last thing this woman needs right now is to be attacked again. He says to the woman, "Oh, you are hurt. Let me help you. That wound needs to be cleaned and bandaged. Not sure where the first aid stuff is around here yet, but I can help you clean it."If she allows him, Gregory will help clean her wounds, and ask her, "How did this happen? The woman beats Gregory back with fierce separation, "Don't touch me! You better not be one of those freaks."
After his jib about a roasting for the woman hits him with her purse and storms down the hall way toward the exit. Not long afterward, Gregory the music does down and a few more figures enter the hallway dressed like hipster movie-vampires.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Gregory lets the woman go, hopefully she will be all right, but forcing help on someone who does not want it can sometimes make things worse. Staying in character, he works on cleaning up the mess left by the fleeing woman. He sees the vamps, and sticks to cleaning the floor, he is outnumbered and his best bet is not to draw attention to himself. He recognizes them, but hopefully they will not recognize him. If he has to fight, he has a plan. He can break the handle of his mop and stab two of the vampires in their weak point, their stomach.
Hopefully he can pull this off, and they are not going to go after the hired help...

The would-be vampires storm past Gregory after the woman, but one of them stops to look at the undercover custodian, "Just having a little misunderstanding about her prices, we won't make too much of a mess."

Gregory hopes she can get away, but acting in character he responds, "Best to just let 'er go, ones like that ain't worth the trouble. Practically lit into me just for seeing her she did."Venatus Vinco wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 3:26 pm The would-be vampires storm past Gregory after the woman, but one of them stops to look at the undercover custodian, "Just having a little misunderstanding about her prices, we won't make too much of a mess."
He might take the one, if he catches him by surprise, but when the other return (and the will, with or without the woman) that would cause immediate problems. Now, however, he has to continue is act...and try to figure out a way to rescue the woman if the Vampires return with her. He might not WANT to fight them, but letting them kill the woman (whether or not she is a Prostitute) or forcibly addict her to their saliva is something he has to do his best to stop.

"Oh, I don't know. I like a fighter," says the hipster poser as he turns on his heel and heads backboard the room with the music. When the door closes the hallway goes back to a more subdued quiet after the initial flurry of activity.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Gregory thinks to himself that he knows Red Court Vampires prefer prey that runs and fights, they are less likely to attack someone who is not acting like prey. This is the nature of his disguise. Luckily, it seems to have worked.
Still, if the others come back, he needs to be better prepared. He is sure some of these cleaning supplies could help, possibly blind a Red Court Vampire for a time if thrown in their eyes. That might work long enough to let him stab them in their weak point, the place in their stomach where the demon connects to the flesh suit. He goes about preparing to clean the the place further...and to be ready if that includes cleaning upon the vampires. He still expects they will kill him, but he might take a few with him.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
As Gregory readies himself for an impossible fight the hipsters come back with the girl in tow. However, she seems fine now and is happily following them along without putting up a fuss. The two men smile hungrily at her, but it just basically looks like a couple of punks heading to a party in a city councillor's office with a pretty girl in tow.
One of them gives Greg a stare, "Back to work, amigo." He emphasis the word amigo with more than a little derision.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Unfortunately Gregory knows what her change of attitude means, they used the narcotic saliva on her and she is currently on a euphoric high. Right now, she will cooperate with nearly any suggestion the one who inflicted the effect decides (she is Puppeted). That means they will either make her one of them, or keep her as an addicted slave...he knows how the Red Court operates.
He has no real choice, he has to save her, even if right now she does not want saving. He is going to have to have to act fast and hard to have any change...which means using his own parasite demon's powers to assist him.
He starts with his prepared chemicals, turning to his cart as if preparing to get back to work, but then grabbing the prepared containers and trying to throw them into the faces of the vampires. It will not seriously hurt them, unfortunately, but hopefully will blind them and give him time to make physical attacks immediately after.

Re: Chapter 1: Seeing Red (Gregory)
Gregory succeeded in temporarily impairing the vampires, blinding them with the thrown chemicals, and grabbed the girl. He managed to hail a cab and got a ride to near his place...but left her in the cab for a bit while he checked and discovered the note from Gary and so had the cab take him to Neutral Grounds. After paying the fare he was kind of tapped out of his ready cash (he had put the money from the Society of Saint Giles in the bank pending earning it, Gregory is honest about these things).
He will take time to talk to her if she is in the mood for talking, but if not he will need to talk with Gary with a G about his problem...the RCV can wait but Gary has only about 30 hours left to solve his case.
Interlude
After the confrontation with the Red Court Vampires, Gregory is in a pretty good mood. He looks up the contact information for the Society of St. Giles and lets them know the leader of the Red Court in the group that was trying to influence the local politicians is dead, though he is as yet uncertain of the status of the group as a whole. He then heads back to the coffee shop and checks on the girl...he never did get her name.He will take time to talk to her if she is in the mood for talking, but if not he will need to talk with Gary with a G about his problem...the RCV can wait but Gary has only about 30 hours left to solve his case.
