When you are ready

Post by Ndreare »

Let me know when you are ready for the next GM post so the planning opportunity can end.

When ready to move on reply "Ready" or something like that.
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

I feel like we're getting close to knowing how to proceed, but there's still some kinks to iron out.

Rob, most folks liked my two prong two-step:

1A: Locate Sovereign and determine as much about the ship as we can, via records hacking, contacting former contractors, etc. Also determine their current activities/interests.
1B: Lure Sovereign crew out with an invitation or bogus (or hell, real) job--either way, get them off the ship while they leave it docked someplace we can get at it.

2A: Prep as much of the forgery as possible, so as to make that step go faster once the extraction team goes into action. Also acquire gear for the B&E, which will likely require some of the intel from step 1A to determine.
2B: Get on board, get the box, finish the forgery replacement and get out.

My big remaining question is about step 1B: It's really not clear if the Sovereign characters are going to be played actively by their own players, or if you're going to be NPCing them, or what.

The "A" steps are mostly intelligence gathering and preparation; we can probably proceeed with those. But the B steps require some of the intel gained from the A steps before we can really continue.

Oh, one other question: The substitution is not going to remain unknown forever. How long does it have to go undetected for us to qualify for the super-payout?

This will not be a direct cross over (although one may be down the road, it is not this soon). So steps will be handled by modified Dramatic Tasks/P&O. the difficulty will be reflective of the skills of those involved.

However if something comes up that would permanently detriment a character their player would be alerted as appropriate.

An excellent detail that when reviewing the contract you can see it must be in his possession for a minimum of 25 hours without others being alerted.

I will be posting soon, but it would really help me if I could get Death Otter to post those rolls first. the number of raises will affect what I include in my GM post.

Any chance you could do that for me?
