Current Known Concerns Discussion May 2018

Post by Sgt 86Delta »

[Feel free to discuss in character or out of character about the Current Known Concerns. If there is a particular one everyone is interested in then we will after some suitable role play proceed with that as the focus for the VXS next mission.]

Knight Commander Buxley pokes his head and says, "we've had a few requests for your assistance since your last adventure."

The Vauxhall Cross Squad (VXS) is sitting, standing, flying or what have you in one of the squash courts on the first floor. Brigid is absent as is Seamus both having been sent to Northumberland by special request. Keeper did not join the VXS after Salisbury Hill, having locked himself in the Archives in Vauxhall Cross Castle.

On a conveintly placed table near the door the Knight Commander places one sheet of paper underneath a squat stone cylinder. "Have a look. Your country still needs you."

Kardis sits at the table of concerns his mighty gravametric signgular signature threatens to collapse the space in on itself. Even as he speaks Kardis the mug of coffee Kardis sips from shrinks from sight as he brings it to his lips. Kardis bemoans his luck, ” Zuuls sword from the eye of three weaves its wroth on the mighty home of Quantilaxion.” . The cosmo knight’s mighty gaze glances down at the breifing sheet illustrating all known concerns. The one at the bottom catches Kardi’s impregnable eye.
” The best of thorns from Parralax ten, its eyes unfureled fixed on london. Kardis in the land of Nordrick with no help from brother Kendel a wayfair shepard. Kardis his strength unbound with the Crossing heroes must journey the path of 1000 eyes unlooked for. Kardis and the beast of thorns, Kardis and the Cross at the steps to Nodrick. Nordrick where the walls fell.”

Kardis grabs another mug and it too fails to withstand being held by such an awesom hand and vanishes from existance.

4. Peace of Mind - (Protosource R&D)
6. Thorn's Medical Research Facility - (Secrets of Gene Star)

Peace has his tablet out and is going through some of his notes abut the protoculture research. He also is tweaking his doomsday clock based on new information. It seems daily he's surprised by some new discovery that defies the laws of physics as humankind knows it. All of which feeds his concerns. This is just to sort of activity the invid would be drawn too. If this is indeed and alternate earth, the Flower of Life would grow here too.

He checks off the projects currently under way. He has vested interest in the protoculture R&D and the Medical Facility Research. Peach is of course feeling the urgency of the protoculture resource status. The intrigue of the medical facility is, well, intriguing. It has a connection to a world more similar to the technology he is used to but wrapped up in the mysterious forces of this world.

The lab is a place of action. It has energy and a dynamic tension. Peace loves it. The problem is, field work is exhilarating as well. A much as he is a scientist, Peace is also a Marine. In the UEEF this was never an issue. He'd drop with everyone, fighting through the invid lines, figuring out what they were up to, making the world safe for the second wave. He was always in the first line into the genesis pits.

Here on this post-apocalyptic earth, there isn't a neat hierarchy, a division of assigned roles. Peace does not like being forced to chose.

Tucking his tablet into his pocket, he nods to the weird weird guy, "I'll be in the lab"

As Peace heads out of the squash court, Buxley pushes a manilla folder. "We have learned to go back to the older methods of actually printed information in order to preserve security. These files have the latest updates on your Protosource research."

"Also if you are certain of the Invids interest in our Earth, might I suggest that you do what is necessary to hide your research and mask the results as something else. Safety is after all the best policy."

Earl listens to Kardis and wonders what the alien being is even saying. North America was strange enough, but the British Isles took it to a whole other level. He drew his 1851, half cocking it as it slid out of the holster and rolled the cylinder up his forearm. As always, there were no catches or inconsistencies in the clicking of the cylinder, but the psi-slinger never ceased to check.

This medical research facility may hold some information that may link to the rise of the world powers post cataclysm. Mark me down with Peace as interested, too.”

"Copy that sir, there's no wireless network here, so my tablet shouldn't be too much trouble," Peace says to Buxley. But he's just warming up. Buxley said the magic word. "Yes, yes, indeed we need to be careful with the research," he says the little crazy shining in his eye. "Our understanding is that as long as the protoculture engine is not active, the invid cannot detect the protoculture." He pulls out the tablet again and starts scrolling through some information. "However the actual Flower of Life itself alone in sufficient quantities can create a powerful enough psychic emanation for the Regis to detect. It is interesting that the Regent is not able to perform such a feat...." There are about three minutes of specific information on the the difference between the Regent and Regis forces. Finally he gets round to the point, "Cloaking the active protoculture engine requires a new technology we have derived from designs provided by the Haydonites. The code name is "shadow technology". It creates a fourth dimensional shift of the space around the cloaked device, from a cyclone to a capital ship." He shows Buxley a few diagrams. "However, the technology is linked to the synchro-cannons, also provided by the Haydonites. Some of us in the scientific community are concerned about the rapid adoption of unknown alien technology. Thankfully Admiral Hunter is skeptical as well. I am not actually cleared for that level of classified information, but when the fleet's flagship and admiral team up with a single science vessel and head off to a remote region of space, well, conjecture leads to investigation, and investigation leads to facts."

"So, we should anticipate the development some sort of cloaking technology. I will annotate my notes from the Haydonite technology. I think it will be easier to develop a Shadow Device once we have a working protoculture engine using local technology. The Shadow Device will also likely be even more effective if developed from scratch using local tech, as the invid will have no experience with it," he ends the little monologue with a roguish grin. "When the invid come, we will be ready. There is so much here they don't understand, and they are slow to adapt. Yes. This might be the place for their final defeat!"

Buxley nods. Content that his point has gotten across to Agent Peace.

"Many have come to these isles and never left for whatever reason. These Isles have stood and weathered change and time, however a properly prepared defense will certainly go a long way to preserving this great country and quite possibly the world."

Abruptly a streak of light zips through the open doorway into the room, and from the nucleus of this tiny comet manifests the foremost hero of the Isles, SEELIA NISHNOCKET! A foot and a half of fey fury!

She lands on the tabletop with fists on hips, clad in a dress of woven leaves, with her dragonfly wings vibrating agitatedly.

"MY FELLOWS!" she bellows, with lung capacity far in excess of what her lungs could possibly hold, "I have heard the news! A call for aid has gone out from a great and noble warrior of the light, second perhaps only to myself! SEELIA NISHNOCKET!"

"We must leave as hastily as a post to go to the aid of Saint George!"

Kardis stands and the ground sinks. He breathes and the wind trembles. When he speaks all can hear his rumbling voice of cosmic force, ” The Halls of the Cross come to the end when the littlest voice echoes. Our sails are unfurled, and the high lords on Ulurorn IV sound their vices! Join us heroes of the Cross in an undying search and mighty aid rendered to the Saint of George!!”
Kardis leaves in search of Saint George. His will is undying and his efforts unending. Saint George will be found and aid given by the strength of Cosmo Knight Kardis and post willing the heroes of the Cross!

Seelia draws her sword and looks like she's JUST ABOUT to go flying after Kardis, but then her attention is drawn to the puck.

"Oh, hey. Gotta read the quest text first."

She hunkers down and squints at the puck, piecing together the writing on it to see what the good knight has to say.

The Stone Puck is about 6 inches across and a about an inch thick. It weighs roughly 5 or so pounds. Made from some kind of red stone it has an open mouth with teeth and an eight pointed star inside the mouth. The opposite side is flat and smooth.

Kardis comes back after a few moments and tosses a human man on the table. The man has overalls with many grease stains. He is clutching a hammer white knuckled. Kardis points to the mans leather jacket which bears the emblem identifing him as st. George.
” There is your St. George.”

The bewildered man starts saying something in some kind of intelligible english giving away his west side london roots.

Kardis’s sits down crushing the chair with his impressive weight.

Buxley blinks. Walking over to the man, who is obviously panicked, taps the man's hammer to get his attention and then the man is gone.

"You may recall that we met with a Saint George in the lower levels of the Silbury Millenial Tree. The holographic projection we encountered was originally of a night in early armor with a spear. Kardis or Keeper were able to to cause the figure to drop his charade and revealed himself to be a dark green or black scaled dragon. I believe he refered to himself as Coalfax."

"The sub levels below the Millenial tree looked very much like a prison. The circular prison had walls and floors that moved and a series of levers that were activated. We found the level below where Coalfax stored his antiquities."

You would think in England, they would speak English..

“Commander, I’ll keep this simple and plain. I read the briefings on Millennial Tree Expedition. The details on the antiquities are a little vague. Probably redacted for security reasons. What connection do they have to this stone puck? The Coalition States were not big on education but that eight pointed star probably has some significance, either the sun, the world or some other symbol and it can't be good that it's being eaten. Buxley smirks at the looks he gets from the VXS.

"Essentially allowing for time travel."

"Three elements allow for time travel. Time. Space. Objects."

"All that is known is that Coalfax was not at home when we visited and that his holoprojection revealed little about his current whereabouts."

Fingering the puck, "Not sure what the puck has to do with anything. I am sure the markings and engravings and even the stone itself has some relevance."

Kardis raises feeling the moment is nigh, the table where his hands were resting now has a permanent inditation. His voice is like a volcanic forge erupting, ”Buxlebee of the Crossing knights, words were said but non have the heart of Silient Hill in the valley of shadow on Malibick two. The forge wills it, and so our fates have been entertwined with George the St. And the Thorn of the three galaxies. Desmond Drake Finder went to Sheblack instead of Kardis. Desmond entombed for all time in its dead heart. The forge fires send us and to both we must go. First to the George St. And then the Thorn of the three galaxies.”
