Kardis's Chronicle

Bonded Heirloom Edge _
Bonded Heirloom
Requirements: Novice, Spirit d6+
There are items in the world invested with spells so potent that the power remaining in them lasts beyond the life of their creators. The heirloom has a personality of its own and can psychically communicate empathic messages with the owner. The more powerful of these items even gain full personalities and control of their powers.

This Edge allows the player to designate one of his/her items as enchanted. The player develops some kind of story regarding how he/she came to own it, and why it is unique. It may be as simple as random chance, or as developed as the long history of a family heirloom.

When selecting this edge the player must write a paragraph or so of story behind the item and what gave the item its psychic imprint. The item then gains two minor traits from the list below. The GM must approve all choices, and they should be story-driven and appropriate to the item in question.

Plot Immunity: If the item is stolen or destroyed, the GM and player should work out a method for replacement usually within one to two sessions.

Minor Traits Lists
The same effect or trait can be applied/stacked no more than twice.
  • +1 to a specific Trait roll appropriate to the item.
  • +1 damage to a weapon.
  • +2 armor to armor, shield, or clothing.
  • +1 Parry to a shield or close combat weapon.
  • Halve the weight of the item (quarter if taken twice).
  • Apply an arcane Trapping to the device.
  • Other Minor Upgrades as allowed by the GM.
Improved Bonded Heirloom Edge _
Improved Bonded Heirloom
Requirements: Seasoned, Bonded Heirloom
The characters bond with his heirloom has grown and new powers begin to manifest in the item.

The character must write and additional paragraph of story for the item each time this is selected as the items relevance and psychic presence grows. The heirloom then gains an additional Trait chosen from the Minor or Major Traits list (players choice).

This edge may be taken once per rank for a total of four times.

Plot Immunity: If the item is stolen or destroyed, the replacement will retain the benefits of plot immunity.

Major Traits
The same effect or trait can be applied/stacked no more than twice.
  • The item gains a new power. The new power is activated by Spirit of the wielder using the rules for AB Magic, however it is much safer to use and suffering backlash only on critical failures.
  • The item grants the bearer an Edge ignoring normal requirements other than rank and other edges.
  • The item provides +1 die type to a specific Trait of the bearer.
  • Other Major Trait as allowed by the GM.
Artifact Bearer Race _
Artifact Bearer
Some items of power are so self aware they are full partners with their bearers, or even in some cases in charge of the wielders they work with. Upon choosing a wielder the Artifact Bearer will grow quickly in their bond with the item gaining new powers and a unique connection. Artifact Bearers gain the following benefits:

Experienced Warriors: Artifact Bearers are selected from the best humanity has to offer and begin with 4 advances.
Full Bonded Heirloom: The artifact bearer’s weapon provides 2 minor traits and 4 major traits of choice from either the minor or major trait list.
Infinite Potential: The Artifact Bearer may select Improved Bonded Heirloom any number of times each additional time gaining a Minor or Major Trait.
Transformation: The artifact can change form into a simple item of a more subtle nature chosen at character creation. This transformation is a free action for the Artifact.
Wisdom of The Ages: The Artifact has been around and seen hundreds or even thousands of years of experiences. It is able to share many of those experiences with the wielder allowing them to learn faster and perform tasks they have never tried before. The wielder can ignore all unskilled penalties except those related to electronics and computers. In addition the wielder can select an unknown skill when advancing as if it were a skill known below it linked Attribute.

Hindrances and Complications
Hunted: Artifacts are powerful and wanted. Artifact Bearers often find they have enemies they did not even know of showing up on their door trying to kill them and take their partner.
The Partnership: An Artifact bearer is selected by an artifact as a partner is accomplishing its goals. If the Bearer does not assist in those goals and play well with the artifact he will find the artifact breaking its bond and abandoning him as it seeks out a new partner more inclined to its goals.
