Walking through the door of Ladders is a nice experience. The open clean feeling, combined with the muted tones lets you know this is the kind of hotel you could expect to find any family in. The gentlemen and ladies on call are dressed nicely and only approach when singled by a waitress or bartender.
As you enter a concierge walks to you and offers his services. “Welcome to Ladders, how can I help you find your needs?”
  • 2D6 EFFECT
2 Catastrophe: Something goes terribly wrong. The GM must decide what, but some ideas are a new and permanent Minor Hindrance, the inability to use powers for several days, or an explosion of some sort. The backlash should be thematic if possible. If the hero tampers with dark forces for his abilities, for example, he might become corrupted or summon something sinister into the world. If he’s a weird scientist the device might explode for 3d6 damage in a Medium Blast Template, or he might develop a Quirk, Phobia, or other “madness.”

3 Backfire: The power succeeds as with a raise but affects a different target with the worst possible results. A bolt hits a random friend, boost Trait increases an enemy’s skill or attribute, etc. If there’s no likely target, he’s Stunned instead. If the power has a Duration other than Instant, it lasts its full term and can only be negated by dispel (the caster can’t voluntarily end it herself).

4–5 Short Circuit: The power fails but the Power Points allocated to it are spent, along with an additional 1d6 Power Points.

6–8 Stunned: The caster is Stunned (see page 106). She subtracts 2 from arcane skill rolls for the rest of the encounter (the penalty remains –2 even if she gets this result again).

9–10 Overload: The character’s synapses crackle and overload with power. He takes 2d6 damage plus the cost of the power in Power Points, including any Power Modifiers the player declared.

11 Fatigue: The character suffers Fatigue.

12 Overcharge: The power draws ambient energy from the air, automatically succeeding against the target with a raise and costing the caster no Power Points!

Notice 7
Notice [dice]0[/dice]
Wild [dice]1[/dice]
Wild Ace! [dice]2[/dice]
After finishing in the arena, Hardin definitely needs a shower and heads out to find lodging for the next day or two. He may end up sleeping in the APC long-term, but for the first couple of days, at least, he wants an honest-to-goodness bed and a pillow.

Upon entering Ladders, Hardin approaches the concierge and says, ”Ah’d like a room, if you please. One o’ yer standard racks will do just fine. And, um, how are y’all’s laundry services?”

The concierge looks at Hardin with a smile that goes all the way to his eyes and appears to be completely sincere. “Certainly, can I get your name sir...” After getting the basics worked our he continues. “The front desk over here can help you with those needs sir. If I may ask you look perhaps to be a mercenary of some sort. We have discount program with many firms and you may be able to save or even earn more points if you mention it to Rebecca at the desk.
“If you have any needs other than a room and laundry while in Wheaton let me know and I am sure I will be able to make arrangements.”
He then takes the time to personally walk you over to the desk and introduce you. “Becky, this is Mr. Hardin and he would like a laundering service and a century room.”
Looking at you the lady behind the desk smiles and looks down at her computer. “Your in luck Mr. Hardin we have a few openings right now. Do you have a preference such as close to or away from the auditorium, ice machine or room service requirements?” As she begins checking you in she goes through a series of questions and answers to ensure the room is fit to meet your needs. When she is done she informs you of a very nice formal restaurant at the top of the hotel called “The Spindletop”, semi-formal attire required, but she assures you it is worth the effort.

The room is only 320 credits a night and includes:
  • 2 drink tickets for the Lounge
A Breakfast coupon for orders in the Grill (a restaurant attached to the hotel)
A high compression data link for any entertainment needs.
Question
Do you inform her you are with a group, and if so do you say you are with The Tomorrow Legion?

With the Tomorrow Legion
Yup, he tells her. The picture of subtlety, that Hardin. He figures the Legion has nothing to hide and is always looking to broadcast its good deeds to the world as a beacon of hope (if you’ll excuse the reference), so he sees no harm in telling folks who he’s with.
Hardin smiles at the girl. ”Thank you, Miss Becky. I got no preference as to where my room sits. The concierge mentioned that y’all have discounted rates fer certain groups. I’m here as part of the Tomorrow Legion, if that’s in y’all’s system.”

Upon hearing you are with the Tomorrow Legion her posture changes a little bit as she looks at you directly. "Mr. Hardin, I would just like to thank you for the work you and your friends do." She offers her hand to shake. "Sir, The Ladder is very appreciative of your efforts and we do have discounts. You rooms fees will be settled directly with Castle Refuge. You may feel free to eat your meals here and they will be settled as well."
Handing you your drink coupons she again thanks you and reminds you. "If you have any other needs while at the Ladder to let her of one of the concierges know right away."

This is a strange type of over the top hospitality Hardin has not been exposed to often, how does he react?
Hardin is caught with his jaw just slightly open. ”Ahm sorry, miss, ah don’t know what to say. Am ah understandin’ correct that the room is paid for by the Legion? That is mighty decent of y’all to do.” He realizes he hasn’t moved to take her offered hand, and grasps it quickly, getting her filthy in the process.

”Oh! Ahm so sorry ‘bout that. Had a bit of a run in with a dust monster earlier. Best if you don’t ask.”

He tips his hat (a bit awkwardly), and seems to gather himself. ”Well, ah thank you most kindly fer yer hospitality,” he says, and then heads to his room, leaving a trail of dusty footprints in his wake.

Wild: [dice]1[/dice]
Wild Ace: [dice]2[/dice]
Wild Ace Ace: [dice]3[/dice]

It may surprise the other 99s but Erin is a fan of the “view” in the Ladders the high ceilings let her “vision” reach out in a way that is too rare when indoors. She takes it all in enjoying the space and variety of subtle sounds and multiple high speed data connections that her senses can hear in this enclosure Always conscious of the problems her appearance can cause Erin has her weapon stowed in her pack and her “formal goggles” on. When the concierge approaches..

“I was told that the Tomorrow Legion has an account here. I’d like a room for the night and maybe longer. How late is the kitchen open?”

She is still a little dirty and unkempt but does try to give a good impression of the Legion.

Answering her questions the lady, her name tag reads Rebecca, but she introduces herself as Becky. "The breakfast kitchen is open from 5:30 AM until 10:00 AM when they start serving lunch. The kitchen closes from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, then opens again for diner and serves until 10:00 PM.
"The Lounge and the Spindletop both serve from 11:00 AM until close at 2:00 AM. But the room service menu is available to all our guest 24 hours a day." Finally after handing you a paper with the hours listed she adds. "If you have any needs not covered our concierge service is 24 hours a day and we should be able to take care of any special needs you may have miss Sol."

“Thanks Becky, I’ll just head to my room for now. Which direction will it be from the elevators”

Erin nods, takes the offered page and smiles at Becky. At her floor she turns in the given direction and checks a few doors to get the pattern to find her room. Inside her room she drops her bag on the floor and uses her computer to digitize the text on the paper for reading.

“I’d like the large fish and pasta plate sent up in about an hour. When the meal arrives I’d also like to drop off some laundry.”

Logistics out of the way, time for a shower.

The temptation to shower for longer than necessary is difficult to avoid but Erin knows she has a lot of work to pack in over the next few days.

I may be spending a lot of time at Mac’s so it’s time to dress to impress.

Erin dresses in Techno-Wizard formal with her formal goggles, real dino leather bomber jacket and her guild scarf. After the laundry is picked up she connects her computer and updates her files on Wheaton making sure she has a good mental map and parts list for Mac's.

Once in his room, Baron takes the time to maintenance his gear and follow it up with a fitful night of sleep.

Arriving just shortly after Baron, Sephia can't help but feel a little self-conscious of the attention her Cyber-Knight armour draws from the other patrons, smiling shyly as she waits for the concierge to approach. She's never quite been able to get used to the way people react to her as a cyber-knight. Somehow it bothers her more than the distrust of those who identify her as an Altaran despite the visor which hides her lack of eyes.

She greets the concierge as she approaches, "Hello, I am here with the Tomorrow Legion, I was told I could find room and board here? I would like to book a room for the night. I am not sure if we are staying longer than that yet."

Baron wakes up, his bones ache from improper sleep. Sitting up from his bed, Baron pads across his hotel room to the small bathroom. Baron looks in the mirror and sighs, the bags under his eyes testament to his mood. Baron runs the sink for a few long moments before cupping water into his hands and splashing his face with several handfuls of water. Better get to it I guess.

Baron leaves the small washroom, and gathers his discarded clothing shaking off the road dust of the past few days. Baron takes a few minutes to dress, making sure his clothes look presentable. "Good enough I guess." Baron says to himself before heading out of the room and making his way back downstairs.

Baron stops briefly at the desk and returns his key to the hostess. "Thank you, the room was nice."

Notice 3
Notice [dice]0[/dice], [dice]1[/dice]
LC walks in with Hardin to get settled in and a shower. He has a duty bag over his shoulder and his Legion Blue armor on - though the helmet is off. to the desk clerk, he nods. "Good day. I'm Sergeant Lawrence Charles with the Tomorrow Legion. My XO and I need a room for the next few nights." L.C. seems distracted, lost in his thoughts. When asked to sign for the rooms, L.C. does so with only a cursory look at what he is signing. "Some more of my people will be coming along later. If I need to sign anything else, just let me or my XO, Hardin Jones, know and we'll get it handled." When he is told about someone waiting on him, he frowns. "Oh? Alright. Thanks." He glances to Hardin. "One more thing before we go clean up. Shall we?"

He walks over to Vincent with a nod. "You were looking for me? I'm Sergeant Lawrence Charles, or LC for short."

(rolls held) L.C. is impassive as he reads the transfer orders, but he does give a bit of a rueful, if amused, look at Hardin's question. "How long have you been in town?" He nods as he gets the answer. "Well, you can all get a room here at the Ladders while we're resupplying. We'll be heading back out once I get marching orders from Legion command. Until then, we run 8 hour guard posts round the clock at the APC park site. We've got two right now, plus some labor bots. Hardin here will get you worked into a watch schedule soon as he gets a chance. You can walk out and meet Trooper Brison right now if you want. I'll radio him and let him know. Right now the XO and I have some business to handle. Once we're done with that, you guys can give him that answer about arena battling. Just remember we represent the Legion and keep that in mind in all you do. Treat people respectfully and always pay your debts. This town does a lot for us."

"Sounds like a plan." The watch on his wrist makes an odd noise, something like a bird caught in a blender. "Ah hell" Vincent grumbles. He frowns as the noise stops, his voice lowering. "Truth be told, I'm just happy to be out of the Castle. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's a bad feeling in the air around there. I'm not sensitive to such things myself but those who are were telling me to prepare 'just in case' "

The flat black drone hovers towards L.C. and Hardin, intently studying their faces with it's camera. It's surface flicks through a rainbow of colors before it settles on a light magenta. "Hello!" it says cheerfully. I'm Archimedes, how do you do?"

Reuben nods his head in confirmation. "It is true, something is going to happen there and we just cannot be certain. Every time we try to focus on it instead we get insane images and feeling that often conflict. Such as Coalition Line Walkers hiding nuclear bombs in the castle or of the line walkers being trapped unable to open gates.
"But the coalition obviously does not have line walkers and line walkers would not use nuclear weapons. Some of us think maybe it is a sign the Coalition is going to attack and may the True Federation of Magic will attempt to conceal them."
Shaking his head as if this is something he has been in many many discussions of Reuben says. "We just do not know. that is why we have been encouraging everyone to be ready and for those that can to leave to another safe place."

L.C. gets an alarmed look. He knows precisely what is happening. "Fracking hell, witches tits. Damn it. Alright, Hardin, I want everyone back to the APC for a pow wow after dinner tonight. in fact, grab food for everybody and we'll eat together." He indicates the druid. "You had best be there. We all need to talk, but I have too much to do. Damn it, of course all of this is blowing up now." He does not explain himself, but instead excuses himself. "I've got to go get ready. Hardin, get yourself cleaned up and dressed nice or they won't let you in. The concierge can help you get clothes if you need them. Just tell them you're going to Solos. We need to head over there soon or we'll miss him and we need to report into Command, not to mention get Arthur back to the Castle. Let's get it done."

Hardin hears L.C.’s tirade and finds it unusual, to say the least. Sargento usually keeps a cool head, even when things get truly stupid. Wonder what’s up.

Instead of asking, he does as ordered and approaches the concierge. He says, ”Ah was told ah need to get ahold a some clothing so I can go to some high-falootin place called ‘Solo’ where normal folk ain’t seen as good enough. Can one a y’all help me with that? I got no notion what kinda monkey suit ah’m supposed to be wearin.”

The delivered orders also include 2 weeks pay.
Reuben listens to L.C. and nods, rubbing the feathers on his staff while looking around the lobby in interest. "I cannot make commitments to a future unknown. But I think I should be there as well."

Sir William rounds up the refugees. "It seems I have come into some funds as a result of our late adventures. We shall decamp for nicer surroundings." He leads the refugees, now clean and rested, to the Ladders. "Please provide a room for each of these gentlebeings who requests one," he asks, handing over his credit chit. "And one for me as well. On the same floor as the others by preference."
