These basic e-reader tablets are printed from cardboard and plastic by the tens of thousands for incoming troops. They receive (but do not transmit) periodic updates. Each one is registered to a particular soldier's identification number, and it will also receive messages for that soldier as well. Again, they do not send any data, thereby eliminating the risk for any sort of data intrusion. NCOs and Officers have more robust versions which fully interface with the base data systems.
